Macdonald Frimley Hall Hotel & Spa

Loved the grounds, the room had a great bath, nice coffee machine, and was a relaxing stay. We enjoyed using the Steam room / Sauna and Swimming Pool in the 'Spa' facility. Staff in the hotel were friendly and nice.

I didn't like the fact that that the 'Spa' was additionally charged, and also that I could not even book any treatments on the day, or the next day. This was the whole point of going - treat my wife to a spa. The treatments were also overpriced, in my opinion. It didn't feel like a Spa - it felt like a mini Sports Facility, which was also reflected in the staff.

We stayed because it was our anniversary. We had a wonderful afternoon tea the sandwiches and cakes were delicious. We spent the afternoon in the pool and spa area. Its great location very nice hotel friendly and professional staff. We had dinner in the evening the service was fantastic and the food was perfect.

The pool area was very busy on during the Saturday afternoon with young children and families which was a surprise. We were hoping for a more relaxing couples experience. We went down to breakfast at 10:30 this officially finished at 11:00 however there wasn't a lot of food left and wasn't filled so I couldn't have what I wanted which was a disappointment.

Breakfast was great. I asked for a non feather pillow and it was delivered very quickly. The room was clean and had air con, which was great and everyone was really accommodating, especially to my 6 year old.

It was a bit frustrating to only have access to the swimming pool with my daughter between 4 and 6pm (we only stayed one night). We had to get ready to go out for dinner with friends and most children eat around 5/5.30 so not being able to access the pool before 4 was really disappointing, especially as it was my main reason for choosing this hotel as my daughter loves to swim.

The staff were great. I arrived at 2055hrs and the receptionist greeted me and then kindly mentioned that the kitchen was about to close. As I was hungry and keen to eat, she invited me to leave my luggage and order straight away, . The service at the bar along with the food was great, certainly fairly priced. I also benefited from a complimentary upgrade to a Superior Double, which was very clean and comfortable. There wasn't a view to speak of, but this wasn't an issue for me as all I wanted was a good night's sleep and I wasn't disappointed as the bed was very comfortable. The staff at breakfast were very friendly, polite and attentive too!

Breakfast for me is the most important meal of the day and unfortunately I found it to be less than satisfactory. I arrived for breakfast at 0710hrs expecting the hot buffet to be freshly cooked. The bacon was like leather, I can only assume it was cooked the day before and reheated. The scrambled eggs weren't great, in fact I would have much preferred a choice of eggs cooked to order. The sausages and beans were ok, but everything else was disappointing.

My husband and I booked last minute for our wedding anniversary after having to cancel our booking with another hotel- they were very accommodating and decorated the bed with rose petals and had made swans out of towels which was a really nice touch, the spa was nice, although I was slightly disappointed to find they didn't have a jacuzzi! The building and grounds are very nice, if a little tired in places and there was a wedding going on when we arrived, which was no issue, apart from the fact the walls are very thin and some of the wedding guests were very noisy coming up to their rooms late at night! The evening meal was fantastic and the waiter was very friendly and attentive, however, breakfast the next morning was abit disappointing as we were asked if we wanted tea /coffee and toast when we we were seated but even after asking 3 times, it never arrived. But despite this, we would stay again but hopefully next time, the breakfast will be more organised and it will be less noisy!!

Lovely hotel which we have stayed in before and we would stay in again. The bed was very comfortable and the room great for my disability but too far away from reception and the stairs didn't help.

The reception staff fail to answer the phone as when I needed help in the room, I held on for ages and later when I phoned from my home, nobody answered. I held on and was eventually transferred to the operator but again nobody answered. This was very poor. There were lovely glasses in the room with a fridge but no bottles of cold water. This should have been made available.

Evening meal was limited on choice but well cooked and a fair enough price. Wine expensive though. Breakfast was great, usual choice and good value as they had offer on to buy breakfast voucher for half price, if it hadn’t have been I would say very expensive for a cooked breakfast. Plenty of choice, although if you wanted a cappuccino or similar you had to pay extra.

Mattress had seen better days - very soft and sagging in the middle but still slept well. A little bit out the way but bus into town was easy and cheap.

The hotel building itself was really beautiful, the room was a good size and extremely comfortable. It had everything in it that we needed and more. Access to the spa facilities was wonderful, we were even allowed to go over on our checkout day which was fantastic. Overall think it was great value for money.

I loved the glass jug and glasses in the room - the idea being that you could fill them up from the water dispensers which were apparently dotted around - unfortunately there didn't seem to be one in the corridor which our room was off. A small guide pointing out where the dispensers were would have been super helpful but that is the only tiny thing I think could be improved!

Nice hotel set in beautiful grounds. Very nice clean and comfortable rooms. Great comfy beds and pillows. Good breakfast selection and child friendly. Nice swimming pool with well stocked changing rooms and complimentary towels.

On both evenings the bar menu was limited due to items being unavailable. As it is already a limited choice menu. Having items unavailable both nights during our stay gave minimum options. However the food we did have was nice and came out quick

We had a fabulous overnight stay. The staff were extremely welcoming. And the location was beautiful. We were leaving before they started breakfast but they did us 2 fantastic takeaway breakfast bags. Nothing was too much trouble. We had our 2 large breed dogs with us and they were allowed anywhere on the grounds & they had a fabulous front lawn which the dogs loved.

There was an odd hair or two on the mattress topper. Breakfast didn't start until 8am and we are up early...
