Hornsbury Mill

An oasis of calm after a hectic drive on the A30. Beautiful grounds including a lake and peacocks. The restaurant choices were excellent for our evening meal, as was breakfast - fresh fruit and a good choice of cooked items, including pancakes. Our room (2) and bathroom were very clean and spacious.

Unfortunately we were unable to access the electric charging point but this was no fault of the hotel - an issue with getting the App, which we had tried to sort out before we left home, ten days earlier. Fortunately Lidl in Chard had a fast charger that we were able to use.

Location was quite stunning and being greeted by the peacocks was a bonus. Better still, they were unusually quiet birds. Staff very pleasant and attentive. in possession of a great sense of humour too. Four poster bed was a nice surprise and very comfortable. Our room was closest to road, although a good way off, and we could just about hear the occasional ambulance pass with its siren going but, it was generally a quiet location. Bathroom was modern and very clean. My wife rates the shower as the best she's experienced in an hotel! Ate a good dinner in the restaurant and a lovely breakfast in the morning. Will definitely stay here again in the future.

Quiet country setting, with a stream, and an old mill. Picturesque and relaxing. We opened our window to hear the birds chirping in the trees. The staff was friendly and helpful, the breakfast delicious and our room was spacious. The hotel is set up to do receptions and special events.

Although we slept well,the mattress in our room is due for a replacement as springs could be felt through the cover.

On arrival we were genuinely warmly greeted by Jane who remained genuinely kind, thoughtful and friendly throughout. All the staff appeared pleased to see and help us. The food was excellent as was the service, the surroundings were superb - provided you don't want night clubs on the doorstep! The accommodation was comfortable I have saved the details as I will definitely return if I come to the Chard area again.

I do not recall anything that disappointed about the property, although mobile phone reception is very poor or non-existent in the area but the property does have wi-fi one can join

The relaxed feel, the excellent food ,the decor, the incorporating of the mill features into the structure of the hotel, the general cleanliness, the extremely comfortable beds, the grounds and especially the peacock!

Generally lovely - tiny issue with the door by the umbrellas - the catch was movable with the inside handle but not the outside one so once unable to open from the outside during the day. The banister up the staircase was quite grubby.

The location was perfect and the staff could not have been friendlier. The grounds are beautiful and we were lucky enough to have two really sunny days which made the surroundings even better. The three peacocks were stunning, especially George! Breakfast was very good but make sure you go in with an appetite as the chef is a feeder!! :) Very quite as it was early in the season and mid-week but that suited us just fine. Would highly recommend.

Fantastic location with beautiful grounds and scenery - including Peacocks . The staff were so helpful and friendly and a big thank you goes to Jane, the owner, for making us feel so welcome. We had a delicious dinner in the wheel room watching the waterwheel turn behind a giant glass window, followed by a fabulous breakfast the next morning. Great facilities, very comfortable sofas and chairs and a great place to hang out and catch up with friends and family.

This is not really something that could be better but just a tip for travelers. There are a lot of stairs and low beams especially on the top floor. Pack wisely as very large and heavy suitcases may be problematic getting to and from the room. Remember this is a very old building so this is all part of the charm and character you would expect in such a historic property. If you are very tall I would recommend calling the hotel to see if you could get a lower floor room to avoid the beams.

Hornsbury mill is located close to a major A road but set back enough in it’s own private setting to get a feel of seclusion. The building has been sympathetically changed from a working mill into a beautiful hotel which boasts many rooms for dining in various settings so is an ideal wedding venue. The gardens with small lake are well maintained and provide a romantic and picturesque view looking back at the hotel. The staff are very accommodating and friendly,and the food provided is of an excellent standard with large portion sizes. Plenty of parking next to the hotel,and every bedroom is unique and cosy.

The breakfast was really good, it is actually too big to finish! There was a well stocked buffet and loads of tea, or coffee. We had a comfortable room, which was nice and clean. The gardens are lovely, and we were thrilled by the peacocks, particularly when they displayed their feathers. Great location to visit other parts of the area. We ate in the restaurant on the 1st night and the food was really good and would recommend it. I particularly want to mention Paul who was great and really understood what Customer Service is all about regardless what we asked for and when - Thank you!!!

Nothing - I thought it was well priced for what was on offer. It is probably now getting a little tired decor and furniture wise, but that is to be expected considering what the hospitality industry has been through after the last few years.

The hotel is set in lovely peaceful grounds that are a pleasure to stroll around. The small team of owner and staff were exceptionally helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. A light supper was provided instead of a main meal. Breakfast was well cooked and plentiful. All in all a good experience. We would not hesitate to return.

The only thing that raised my eyebrows was the shower flow could have been better.
