Royal Ashton Townhouse - Taunton

I have nothing negative to say, we knew there was no food, but the fridge was a welcome bonus. The hotel is halfway between the railway station and the cricket ground, and a 15 minute walk to the town centre. The staff were friendly, the room was clean and really good value for money. i recommend The Shed for breakfast if you can wait until after 9am, a ten minute walk from the hotel, and The Ale House for a decent pub grub (10% discount with a card) if you don’t mind sport and noisy music a Most next door. We will be back for sure, lovely accommodation and a quiet room.

Nothing, read the terms and decide for yourself. The hotel is halfway between the railway station and the cricket ground, and maybe half a mile or so from the town centre, so you need to accept you need to plan breakfast and meals elsewhere, each room has a fridge, and there are a few places nearby where you can buy food.

Excellent value for money in a central location, close to the train station. Walking distance to Taunton town centre, local parks, the river, cafes and shops. I can’t fault this hotel, the third year we’ve stayed here. The staff are genuinely friendly and helpful, always smiling, offering to carry heavy bags up the stairs, really lovely people. We were greeted with smiles everyday by the front of house staff and the cleaners. A happy working atmosphere.The room was spotlessly clean, the beds comfortable with crisp cotton sheets and comfy pillows. Lots of towels and a clean bathroom with a good shower. The fridge was useful for storing snacks etc and the tv was fine. We stayed in a family room overlooking the street with a double and single bed, and a comfy sofa.

Very hard to fault. The first and second floor have no lift so not suitable for disabled.

Room very spacious and clean. Ideal location halfway between station and cricket ground. Nice pub on the corner. Staff very helpful and chatty. Good seating area in foyer, to meet other friends at agreed times in the morning.

The steps to my room were vey long and steep. So made sure had all my things to limit daily visits to the room to bare minimum. Although near Station, cricket ground, decent pub and main supermarket, the Location was a fair way from the town centre. So didn’t use the Wetherspoons pub or do much shopping

The proprietor, Emma, is beyond charming and beyond helpful. I was arriving in town before check-in time on the morning of a friend's wedding and Emma ensured that a room was made available for me to freshen up. In the end, I was able to swap to the room I was changing in, as it was like-for-like, so I was able to settle in ahead of time. The following day I was also able to leave my bags at the hotel until my train in the afternoon. The accommodation is simple, but comfortable, well-priced and in a convenient location for the train station. On top of that, Emma is incredibly helpful and a pleasure to chat to.

As mentioned, the accommodation is simple, but well-priced. There was some redecorating going on in the halls, but this did not disturb me or affect my stay.

The room was to the rear of the property and extremely quiet. The facilities exceeded expectations. I was happy with the cleanliness of the room and en suite and had everything that I required. The location was pretty central and suited my purposes. The greeting at check in was very welcoming and friendly, the service was efficient and I was very impressed.

The lack of WiFi may be an issue for some guests although I used my own connection for my needs. The paint on the walls could do with some freshening up but that is a recommendation rather than a complaint.

I arrived late because I'd been working in Taunton and was greeted by a very friendly chap on reception. He was helpful about the parking and showed me to my room saying to let him know if I needed anything. Throughout my short stay the staff on reception were really pleasant and cheerful making it clear I only had to ask if I wanted fresh towels etc. The room was spotless and had a generous supply of tea and coffee sachets. There was a fridge, microwave and hob along with a set of crockery and cutlery. As I was traveling for work and on a budget I was able to make myself hot snacks which saved on eating out. The bed was comfortable and I had two excellent pillows. The ensuite shower was easy to regulate with a decent flow and well supplied with toilet roll. It's not The Ritz just a reasonably priced hotel that had everything I needed and super friendly staff. I can't fault it and would definitely stay there again. I will mention Pippa because she was lovely and went out of her way to speak to guests and ask about their stay. Best customer service I've experienced for about 2 years. Thank you.

Parking could be tricky but that's Taunton from my experience. So not really a criticism.

Good location near the train station and city centre. Decent bathroom. Comfortable clean bed. Had a mini fridge and fan.

The room wasn't in great condition, dirty walls and table. There was a bit of confusion checking in as I had paid on booking.com in advance. To try save time. Had to show them a receipt as proof of me paying. The people in the room above me were unbelievable noisy, keeping me up most of the night. Obviously that's not the hotels fault.

Very nice and helpful owner, not sure if he was the owner but he was in charge when I arrived Fridge was handy! Good shower.

I may not have read the description of the property correctly but I didn't realise that it was mainly bring your own food! Tea and coffee were provided but milk wasn't. It wasn't that I didn't like it, I just didn't realise! Just a very minor observation and not a problem! Sorry, just to add it wasn't a problem as I went out to find my bus stop for the morning, and there were plenty of shops selling milk!

Lovely property, well decorated, rooms are large, staff are all so lovely and welcoming! Beds was also again very comfortable.

Only thing was it is in the high street with a few pubs very close by and as we stayed Friday to Monday the pubs had entertainment on which of course was loud and drunk people too so that was my only thing about our stay which has nothing to do with the hotel itself.

It was on the ground floor and close to the reception area so near the front door. This was important as I have some difficulty in walking. The staff could not have been more helpful.

There was no view out of the window. Although we were told it was recently refurbished, the door to the toilet did not close properly and the plug in the sink did work properly.
