Clean and comfortable rooms, excellent breakfast, large garden with lots of outdoor seating. Home-cooked meals served daily, we recommend the two course 'specials' that are put on once a week, but booking is advised as they are very popular. Friendly and helpful staff. Just a short drive away from Chard town centre, and there is a large P&D car park at Sainsbury's. The nature reserve/reservoir, TA20 1HU, is beautiful and well worth a visit. Take a look in the bird-hide, not forgetting to look down to see the humungous Carp swimming below! There are plenty of places to visit within the county of Somerset, and not far away is the Dorset coast.

Friendly staff. Good food, plenty of choice and interesting variety with large portions. Traditional pub with locals popping in for a game of darts or skittles, good atmosphere. Local beer and cider on tap with a beer garden at the side and plenty of parking. Bedroom was well furnished with king-sized bed and single bed ,good sized wardrobe and bedside tables. En-suite bathroom was a good size. Pretty bedding and curtains gave a comfortable and relaxing feeling to the room.

Only down side was the mattress on the king size bed was a bit soft so husband (who is 6ft 3in and quite heavy) had to sleep in the single bed in the room. However when we mentioned this problem we were told that the mattress was being replaced shortly.

This is a very pleasant little pub with a few rooms. Traditional in style, my room was large, clean and comfortable. The openable window looked out over the road, but it is such a quiet place that there was no issue whatever with traffic. Yes, some of the furniture is a bit dated, so don't expect the sharp decor of a modern chain hotel, but rather a room with character, not to mention the original wooden beams. I was tired when I arrived, so decided to eat in and enjoyed an excellent meal with lots of vegetables at a very fair price. Breakfast was also excellent, with a wide choice of the usual English staples. Most of all, I valued the friendliness of Jason the landlord who did his best from the start to help me feel comfortable and welcome and then to resolve a problem with my vehicle that ocurred on the way down. I look forward to staying again next time I am in Somerset.

It didn't affect me, but in the interests of a complete and totally honest review, I should mention that access up the stairs to the rooms might be an issue for anyone with limited mobility.

Room spacious and nicely presented Bar menu which is available for lunch and evenings was good and prices of drinks and food were quite reasonable. Tea & Coffee in room Nice toiletries provided and no lack of hot water Breakfast was nicely presented and substantial. Overall good value for money despite me leaving my new contact lenses behind.

Bed a little uncomfortable for me. Stayed in room at front of property which was unfortunately directly overlooked from the house across the road. Also quite a few stairs over the property to negotiate and a little challenging for those with mobility issues

The vegan food is amazing! Me, my partner & Mum had the Vegan Cottage pie with lots of different vegetables, I had boiled new potatoes. My parents & partner all ordered chips with their meals which came out in a huge dish & I had a few & they were perfect! ( Dad enjoyed his vegan curry)The puddings were so good I had two different ones; the Apple caramel cake & Raspberry chocolate ganash ( I think it was called that lol) with vegan vanilla icecream, both were equally amazing! Cary the Landlady invented the Raspberry chocolate pudding & it is so totally delicious! The room was clean & comfy, could do with softer pillows, but shower works perfect & roses in the garden are so fragrant! Very friendly couple, my second stay & plan to go back soon thankyou very much.x

Pillows a bit hard for me, but bed perfect!

Nothing was too much trouble for the owners and the staff The dogs are made exceptionally welcome and there is no charge , even though Booking.com say there is a £10 charge

It would be nice to have at least one table free for guests, in the bar. It's understandable that the regular games teams are catered for, but if you have a dog the bar is the only place to have an after dinner drink. However there is such a pleasant atmosphere it's forgivable. We had a lovely stay and would happily return

Friendly and helpful publican; took bag upstairs and found a charger for my phone. Breakfast was great with good options and nicely presented. Our room was spacious, immaculate and comfortable. We were treated to an evening of entertainment from a folk group which we thoroughly enjoyed. Would thoroughly recommend especially if you need an overnight stop to Cormwall. Pretty area with thatched cottages and history. Not far from the main roads but peaceful and excellent value.

Nothing. For the price we paid it was excellent value.

The hosts/owners were welcoming and very helpful. I was travelling alone, and the building, location and scenery was very nice! The room was plenty big enough for myself, the bed was comfortable and the en-suite shower/toilet is always welcome. The breakfast was excellent as well, with a proper English breakfast all available to order.

The only thing that is lacking was a slightly more powerful shower. It is an old building so I understand that water pressure can be an issue, so all things considered it was fine.

We loved everything, there was nothing to fault at all. The reception process was speedy and efficient, and it was great that arrival can be from 1pm onward. The road-facing room was plenty big enough, clean, and well serviced, the electric fan was also a welcome addition when it was stifling outside. Though our room was roadside we were not troubled by noise. There was plenty of parking, out-front, and down the side to a larger parking area. This is more convenient if, like me, you don't travel light, as there may be steps and stairs to negotiate with heavy cases. The breakfast on offer was full-English, with all permutations in between, e.g. poached eggs on toast etc. Cereals and fruit juice, and a pot of fresh coffee were also provided. All beautifully cooked with fresh produce. The food menu was very reasonable, with good offers on the 'Specials'. You can eat in, or outside at tables in the large garden. We'd had a poor recent experience at a pub B&B in Porthcawl, where we felt like a necessary inconvenience, The Haymaker was the total opposite, and we can't wait to go back again. (hopefully not in 34 degrees centigrade heat!)

The room was very comfortable with tea, coffee, biscuits and also a chocolate each! Good shower. We booked for dinner which was excellent and breakfast also was superb - full English with cereal and toast. Everyone was really friendly, both staff and other customers and we were made to feel very welcome. Well done to Jason and Carrie for all their hard work in restoring The Haymaker Inn following the devastating floods. You've done a brilliant job. And thank you for allowing us to bring our dogs for free - they enjoyed their stay too!

Everything was great - no complaints at all!
