Castle Hotel

The staff were lovely, the bottle of preseco and card in the room was an excellent touch, the room was large and more than comfortable, a beautiful building, 2 mins walk from town centre. The restaurant (Brazz) was amazing, food, staff and atmosphere all well above standard.

Although the room and stay was lovely in so many ways, there were a couple of points that we noted, the curtains liners on the window sides were quite dirty, and the window frames could have done with a good clean, quite a lot of black mould on the frames, some of them wouldn't close fully, the towel hanger above the bath was lose. We were surprised that we had to pay extra for parking after paying the price we paid for the room. Just one last thing, we weren't told that there was a full English available in the morning, all we were told was that there were continental options or something from the menu.

The location is excellent for a Christmas Break and the Christmas tree in the foyer absolutely beautiful. The room was very comfortable with a comfy bed The bathroom was very clean and spacious.

The only thing I didn't like was the fact that the lift only reached the first floor. Also I injured my finger on the revolving door at the main entrance. This was because a young man rushing through the door made it revolve so fast that when I tried to stop it my middle finger jammed between the edge of the revolving door and the door frame. I cut my finger quite badly but luckily no real damage was done. However I do think some thought should be given to the door's safety.

We stayed in the Mendip room. It was huge compared to some of the other rooms (we stayed last year). It was like an apartment, we loved everything about it. Big lounge area, with a 3 piece suite and coffee table. Big sideboard. A dressing room area, with great light, and big bathroom. Coffee machine, kettle, biscuits, with lots to chose from. Nicely decorated too, light and airy. Lovely stay. We'll be coming back again next year.

There wasn't anything we didn't like about the stay. We had breakfast in the morning. I had full English and would have liked beans, but there wasn't any. That was the only negative.

As previously, staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. We particularly commend the evening Manager of the Brazz restaurant who dealt so well with the unfortunate delays which occurred. We love the building itself and it’s interesting history and surroundings. This is a classy and comfortable old hotel.

A delay in the bar before dinner when an inexperienced, trainee staff member forgot our order with resultant delay to dinner itself causing further hiatus to service at table! In truth, the restaurant suffered unexpected staff shortage on this night, a Monday. As said above, the restaurant manager dealt with the matter most diplomatically and with great courtesy. As a result, our enjoyment of the evening was largely saved!

We had a beautiful room, had upgraded after receiving email suggesting this; the room was enormous and had a lovely sitting area, lots of antique furniture, large cupboard, dressing table - everything you could possibly want.

I always prefer to have a separate shower as getting in and out of a bath at my advanced age is somewhat tricky; however I have learnt not to ask for this as if I do I am given a disabled room - which I don't need.

The hotel is comfortable and smart without being bland. It has a lot of atmosphere and the balance of formal and casual is perfect. We had drinks in the Norman Gardens and it was very beautiful in the spring sunshine. The breakfast was absolutely delicious.

I forgot my toothpaste and there wasn't any at the desk which was disappointing given the high standard of hospitality experienced in all other areas. To be this pedantic, everything else was great

The hotel and staff were amazing! The room/bathroom was very clean and the mattress was very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful and they all should definitely get a pay rise! The facilities in the room were great! It had all the basics(iron, hair dryer, kettle, etc) but it also had a little safe which was cool. I don't normally eat breakfast but im glad I did because it was delicious 😋. A lovely little buffet as well as having different things that can be prepped by the chefs (eggs Benedict,poached eggs etc) and even some lovely croissants 😋. Will definitely come back again for a longer stay😁👍🏼

The curtains.. Please change the curtains! They looked like they were picked up from a thrift shop😂. The TV was ok but a few buttons on the remote didn't work 😅. The cost of the room itself seemed a little too pricey but the hotel itself was fabulous.

Brazz Restaurant was great…….contemporary, great food and service. Excellent you have EV chargers. Looked aging…….how about new ones and longer tether cables. Beautiful garden.

Although our room was spacious and bed comfortable, it needs an upgrade. Bathroom fittings old and tired…….bath stained, shower antiquated and tap turners in sink came off? Our suite was just above the rear Hotel service entrance and a delivery lorry turned up at 6.15am on the Saturday morning and woke us up. Maybe delay morning deliveries until 8 am or be super quiet?

Staff really helpful and friendly. Location is right in town center so you don't have to drive to go out to eat. We had a suite which was lovely and spacious. Was great having a window to open and not having air con rooms with no fresh air. Bed was super comfy. Was lovely to see the old stone windows of the castle and so hotel has character. Have to say there was nothing that went wrong. Breakfast was a really good start to the day.

As I said nothing we didn't like but just advice, restaurant does get busy as its not massive and its very popular so I would recommend booking in advance and don't leave it to that day.
