The Corner House Hotel

When I checked into The Corner House Hotel, unfortunately there was a guest in front of me who informed a member of staff that she would need a “long piece of paper” to write down the improvements that needed to be undertaken in the hotel. From my personal experience at this hotel, I couldn’t disagree with her more. The Corner House Hotel was exactly what I needed - I was attending a concert at Vivary Park, and the hotel’s close proximity to the gig, and the centre of Taunton, couldn’t have suited me more. The staff were extremely pleasant, and my room was clean and tidy - it was lovely that complimentary teas, coffees and hot chocolates were provided in the room, alongside a fresh bottle of milk in the mini fridge. The bed was comfy, and extra pillows were situated on top of the wardrobe, should have I required them. Breakfast was absolutely delicious, and the system of pre-ordering cooked breakfasts the night prior works really well. There was also a good selection of cereals, juices, pastries, yoghurts and fruit available. All in all, a fantastic stay - I would not hesitate to come back, if I were to visit Taunton again.

If I were being really nit-picky, I would have liked a couple of mains sockets beside my bed.

All points relate to age of building and not really possible to improve: stairs steep and without decent hand rails, no lift, small rooms, very stuffy and warm rooms, Single occupancy double: tiny shower with sloping floor in ensuite, no ventilation in ensuite, sink next to bed not in toilet! Car park entrance and exit quite narrow and carpark quite cramped for slightly nervous parker !

The room was clean & tidy. It has a super king bed, dressing table, tv & a fridge. There were tea and coffee making for facilities with a good selection of teas, coffee and hot chocolate. Fresh milk was provided in the fridge. The bathroom was small but adequate. Breakfast was excellent, you order the night before for a cooked breakfast and there is a buffet with cereal, fruit yogurt etc.

Because this is an old building there are no lifts and the stairs were quite narrow and steep. The charging of the car park for residents is in my opinion unnecessary.

We arrived early and contacted the hotel who let us check in early, it was very busy being Christmas day car park full, receptionist informed us of this prior to arrival, advice given re parking good early check in. Room - comfortable spacious, bed - large and comfortable pre ordered breakfast good hot and cold selection use of glass pots for condiments, no plastic well done Staff -helpful and had good information Bar - good atmosphere Location = perfect visiting family easy walk to both family and the town

There was nothing I did not like our needs and comfort were met

Very friendly, polite & approachable staff. The room was light & airy, despite being a little on the small side & the addition of the fan already in the room when we arrived was a huge bonus. The menu was high brow, but delicious & the chef their team in the kitchen certainly knew how to prepare a fine dining experience. The location, near to the town centre was close enough to walk in a matter of minutes.

The room was a little smaller than we expected for the price, but suited our needs for the weekend

Loved having a bath looking out of the window with my cup of tea - checking in was easy, the lady was very nice, and we sorted our breakfast out at the same time. The attention to detail with drinks was a wonderful surprise - I don't often find decaff tea bags, so often go without, and then to find it was FRESH milk and not those longlife things, was an even more delightful bonus.

The room was definitely what it said on the tin - compact (although there were no surprises as I did knowingly book the compact room!). However this was not a bad thing but actually a relief; everything I needed was in the room despite its size, organised efficiently and effectively. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, I’d also like to add. On top of that, all staff were very friendly and chatty and it’s in a great central location just by the town centre.

Classic historic building inside and out, and very convenient location for both Taunton town, Taunton Train Station, and Musgrove Hospital. Friendly manager/barman. Close to many nice restaurants, pubs, impressive churxhes/buildings and a mix of artisan and chain/mainstream shops.

Restaurant not open Sunday evening (the only evening I was there), but it was winter (early Jan), and communicated to me well in advance of my stay, and there are numerous NI e options for restaurants ans gastropubs nearby (Cosy Club, Pitcher and Piano, etc), so not a problem.

Comfortable room Another reviewer said breakfast was small - I've been cycling 70 miles/day and would say breakfast was a good size - cooked element isn't massive but not dissimilar to competitors and can be made up with good choice of yoghourts, toast, pastries, fruit and all really nice quality - not stayed anywhere else that offers fresh plums Friendly staff Stored my push bike securely and under cover Nice coffee/tea in room with fresh milk

Wasn't a problem for me but due to the age of the building the bathroom was a funny shape and wasn't easy to get into the bath (shower is over the bath) - would definitely suggest flagging to hotel on booking if you have mobility issues as probably other rooms than mine would be more suitable

All went well. Excellent breakfast, friendly staff, very clean room, albeit the door was very narrow and we thought we were going to be in the broom cupboard! Great to have the carpark. Very easy to walk into the town.

Window was vey small and room a little airless even though we opened the window as much as we could. Had it been a very hot night it would have been even trickier to sleep. We didn’t use the fan but I’m not sure how much difference it would have made.
