Trout Hotel

Excellent location. Dining and service was excellent. Room was tastefully furnished and decorated. Parking good and the quality of meals good apart from one starter which my wife did not enjoy and when she was asked by the waiter if everything was alright she told him that the starter was not enjoyable then the waiter immediately took it off the bill.

The hotel was very busy (it was a bank holiday weekend) and all tables in the bar and restaurant were used for food and we like to have a quiet drink in the bar before our dinner but had to sit in the bar with the adjoining table eating food (mussels).

very friendly and professional staff throughout the hotel, restaurant and breakfast excellent quality service and food, lovely gardens with seating available and an area to sit on the river edge and enjoy the sun, great location to explore Cockermouth and the surrounding areas. Rooms clean and comfortable with on site free car parking available.

Our ground floor bedroom window was directly looking out into a courtyard, which meant we were unable to open our blinds, this could be an issue in the main summer period if the area was busy with customers using the seated area of the courtyard.

Very well situated hotel just on the edge of town. Plenty of parking available. Very swift check in. Reception staff were polite, welcoming and courteous. Our room was on the second floor overlooking the main street. Some traffic noise but nothing too bad. Nice comfy bed and two armchairs which was a nice touch. room was bright and clean but to be honest could do with re-decorating. Bathroom was spotless and the monsoon shower was great. We had evening meal in the restaurant which was very nice. All meals were well presented, plentiful and very tasty. We also had a few drinks in the bar. Restaurant staff were hard working and attentive. Same can be said for breakfast which was delicious.

Nothing really. Everything was to our liking.

As stated with my vulnerable brother and as dining room closed for dinner had to use the Terrace - up some stairs - a challenge as bottom step is inches high and the most dangerous of all - it needs hazard tape to identify that it’s there for old people and those with impairments. Of course we should have stayed and taken dinner in the bar or lounge but being our first night did not realise it was a possibility.

Very pleasing and comfortable establishment with very attentive and lovely staff. Staffing in the hospitality trade has taken its toll lately and I appreciate its been tough on them. However, getting the right staff can be equally difficult at anytime. The Staff in the Trout Hotel were brilliant and made our stay really enjoyable. Anyone visiting would not be disappointed.

Drinks were a little pricey, but what isn't these days.

Spacious double room, nice bathroom, quiet location lovely gardens and outside seating area Meals were very good both breakfast and evening meals. Staff were all lovely, helpful, courteous and cheerful which made for an extremely pleasant break.

There was no minibar in the room and the telephone system was not working I ws told that the system was being changed

Our party of 6 (3 rooms) were all upgraded to executive rooms. My husband & I had a ground floor room with a river view - it was excellent, with a lovely outlook onto the River Derwent. All of the staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good, with plenty of choice. Thanks to all of the staff for a most enjoyable stay. We know Cockermouth quite well and would happily return to The Trout.

Minor point: We understood about safety regulations, but handing in the key whenever we went out was a bit of a faff.

A very good choice for breakfast and the room was very clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and the location was good. Being able to take drinks down to the riverside was an added bonus.

It was sad to see the beautiful terrace bar closed due to lack of staff. It would have been lovely to sit outside as the weather was good. There was a carpeted step in our bedroom to take you to the bathroom which was pretty dangerous at night as you couldn't see it, I tripped up and hurt my arm.

Room was comfortable in size and amenities; the food was excellent, and service by hotel staff was very good. Parking was free as was WiFi, and we loved the location--right in the middle of town.

Our room was right across the hallway from a handicapped bathroom that was used often during the night. Every time it was used, the door banged shut, waking me up.

Lovely spot right by the river. We paid for a King suite which was extremely roomy and comfortable with a stunning view. The room was spotlessly clean, warm, and all the staff we spoke to were very pleasant. Breakfast was delicious and varied. The Christmas decorations were outstanding. Very nice stay.

I was a bit put out for not being supplied with a bathrobe as advertised for the price we paid, or being advised there wouldn't be any so I could have brought one with me. I was however informed there was a "national shortage of laundry ". The laundry cupboard outside our room appeared to be overflowing with clean laundry as we were leaving, including robes! A couple of tiny things in the bathroom could maybe be improved; but on the whole nothing to stop me staying again.
