Lovely smart, clean and fabulous place to stay. Fantastic breakfast (also mushrooms, tomatoes and black pudding that aren’t in my photo) served beautifully and with first class service. All the employees I came across were delightful and were very accommodating.Also a gorgeous location just off the Harbour, which luckily I had a spectacular view of.

The fish and chips could have been better.

When I arrived I was informed that I had booked one single for two people when I had booked 2 single rooms for two people. This was cleared up very quickly by the lady on duty ( very friendly and proffessional). On later inspection of my booking on my phone that was sent to me on the previous day it showed clearly that I had booked two single rooms for two people. There was an obvious problem about how the hotel was recieving the booking and the fault did not lay with me in incorrectly booking the rooms.

The beds were quite squaeky and my daughter had a bit of a uncomfortable sleep on the bed she was on.( Room 1)

The location of the hotel was excellent; easy for arrival by car, bus or train! Indeed also by yatch if you are tide aware. Good evening menu

The breakfast service could do with a revisit. The "Full Cumbrian" is without doubt excellent; there are other options. However, there is one major failing for the 21st century. No fresh fruit or cheese or croissants. I had the porridge which was excellent, but how about an option of porridge followed by fresh fruit and yogurt as a complete meal? The shower is OK, but no more than a dribble of hot water at the hand basin.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The breakfast was excellent and quickly served. The morning we left we were a little early for breakfast so the night manager organised sausage sandwiches to take away and the chef couldn’t have been happier to oblige. Great venue for exploring the local area.

Car park was a little tight but we managed.

Clean modern hotel, staff very polite and helpful, located ideally near to port and nice long walk along promenade, breakfast great , main menu at dinner time excellent, the cheesecake is amazing. Little gem of a place and my now go to hotel when I am working in the area.

Can’t really fault anything about this hotel

The location was great we had a sea view. The food was good on the whole

The carpet in the dining room and on the stairs to the rooms was filthy. The waitress serving us for our evening meal was also serving at the bar and we had a 20 minute wait between courses resulting in cold pudding and custard.

Location is great. Considering the pandemic situation services in rooms were rather restricted. I appreciate the Property and it’s historical background. I would like to thank the owner, Philip for listening to me when I needed assistance. Staff was great and helpful within their limits. Food and service at the restaurant was excellent.

A slightly more spacious wardrobe and also the room could do with a larger tv. A better connection with WiFi service in the upper floor. All in all I enjoyed my stay at the Golden lion hotel 👍🏼

the girl who basically did everything was excellent! She allowed me changing facilities at 10am prior to nights stay. Manager very nice guy, arranged a taxi for me. Breakfast you could not fault, too much for me!

Nothing really, only noisy boy wonders driving cars up the main street.

Very suprised by how good it was. We arrived late due to work, reception coukdnt have been more helpful. Dinner was exceptional, I made the mistake of going for a trusted favourite of steak and and scampi (it was very good) my wife trusted her luck and went for the paella, it was fantastic, fresh mussels, shrimp and squid. God it was tasty. The room was immaculate, the fresh fruit basket was a lovely touch. I've stayed in much more expensive places and they've not been anywhere close to the standard of the lion.

Staff very friendly and helpful, location was good. The restaurant was very good and great value. I had 2 guests that were eating with me. They arrived a little late due to traffic, the kitchen was very accommodating, which we really appreciated.

The only gripes I could have was 1) the pressure of the shower, which was low and 2) if you have a street facing room, the noise of people in the surrounding pubs can go on until 2am, which can interfere with your sleep if you are a light sleeper.
