Views, comfy rooms and decent bar and dining area. Good local walks to other villages. Impressed that host remembered our exact breakfast order on day 2. Good selection of wines and beers. Food was good for the price, don't know how they do a main and a pint for £10? Lovely fire in the breakfast lounge. All in all a nice relaxed stay but a little flawed.

Mixed bag of a stay really. Our room was cold, as radiators needed bleeding, but was clean. Our friends room had not been cleaned but was hot. Initially staff somewhat ambivalent but later were much better. Waiting staff need customer facing training.

Firstly, staff were absolutely amazing - so friendly and polite all the way through our stay. We also had a party of x3 vegans, x1 of which is also GF - they were easily able to cater for all dietary requirements for breakfast. The vegan full English breakfast was excellent, so tasty and there were so many cooked options for non-vegans you would be spoilt for choice. There was also fruit, cereal, juice etc. Inside the inn downstairs was lovely, a proper country/walking pub atmosphere and made us instantly feel at home. The rooms were well stocked with towels, loo roll, tea and biscuits. The rooms were warm, very clean and hygienic - sheets were soft and pillows comfy. We stayed in Dale Head as a group of x4 and personally my twin bed was comfortable. Staff also assisted with local knowledge for walks nearby. Views from the beer garden were gorgeous and the beer garden itself was relaxing. Thank you for having us!

These are less complaints as they are feedback for the inn and other travelers - as what I'm about to mention didn't ruin our stay at all. Everyone in our party was content with the stay. The rooms and bathrooms were quite dated in terms of decor, but it matched my expectations for staying in a countryside inn. As we stayed in a group of x4 in Dale Head, we had x2 twin beds and the bunk bed - the bunk bed was creaky and swayed a lot (it was safely bolted together though) so we wouldn't recommend other adults to stay in the bunk beds unless you're a heavy sleeper.

Breakfast was excellent, cooked to order. Kettle and unlimited hot drink selection in room was good. Nice towels and toiletry selection in bathroom. Could get in and out of the building via overnight entrance between 10pm and 8:30 am. Restaurant food prices and menu were reasonable and food was tasty. Was able to cater for dinner for large group of 14 people.

Rather a lot of stairs up and down to get to our room, which had no view. Bedroom also had no chair except for one stool. No wall or door hooks to hang things up. Could not get into building after 10pm except via overnight entrance with Yale key. Bedroom walls and floor not very soundproof. Breakfast time was restricted to one hour (08:30 to 09:30). Restaurant and bar prices for drinks seemed high. No wine list, but rules prevented us from drinking our own wine and paying corkage. Price for the room itself was high. No bread or rolls offered at dinner, but got some after asking. Location did not have public footpath onto the hill behind the hotel.

Location is fantastic for exploring north lakes. Our room was basic but comfortable - better rooms are available at the Inn if you want a bit more comfort. The Inn is very comfy and olde worldy. Eggcellent breakfast (pun intended) - quality local produce and fantastic home preserves all consumed next to a roaring fire.

The inn is located in a beautiful place and our room had the most amazing view. The location is remote and quiet but close enough to Keswick if needed. The food served was exceptional and we enjoyed both breakfasts and dinners throughout our stay.

The only minor complaint I could possibly have is that the room, due to large windows, was like a green house hence got ridiculously hot with no way to get any air going. However, it was compensated by the views which we wouldn't have been otherwise able to admire if not for the large windows. Other than that everything was spot on.

The location was lovely with views of Catbells and Causey Pike The inn was full of character with log burning stoves and thick walls and beams you would expect for a 17th century inn. The breakfasts were very good and the food in general was excellent. There was free wi-fi and smart TV included 👍 We will definitely return in the future.

To be a little picky maybe the shower could have been a little more powerful.

Property in a exceptional location with amazing views of major hills. Nice bedroom with good bathroom facilities. I personally found the bed a bit aged but my partner was happy with it. Worth paying for a room with a view even when the weather is miserable outside and you struggle to see the tops of the hills through the clouds ! Hot shower and hot radiators to dry off clothes .Excellent breakfast using local ingredients and superb friendly breakfast staff. We also ate in the restaurant 4 out of 5 nights and again found the food very good and reasonable value for money. Would definitely recommend a stay here especially if you could guarantee some decent weather.

My only gripe was that staff were not wearing name badges. Service overall was good and certain staff went above and beyond and would be nice to recognise them

The location set on the edge of the valley behind Catbells with stunning mountain views takes your breath away. Steeped in history with old beams, fireplaces, crooked floors and low ceilings made it feel like you were stepping back in time. The staff were so welcoming and obviously work very hard to keep the rooms very clean and the restaurant well managed with food that deserves a mention as the full English was the best I’ve ever had and our meals were as good as a 5 star restaurant. We took our dog which was no problem at all our room Barrow with views of the mountains to wake up to had plenty of space and a large bathroom. We loved our stay and will be coming back after leaving feeling totally relaxed and spoilt.

it wasn’t a problem but those who like to use their phones a lot can on the swinside WiFi but it’s not secure.

We travelled to the Swinside Inn for a night away after Christmas, it was really easy to find and the staff let us into the room before the expected check in time. The views are genuinely stunning - we stayed in the Catbells room and it’s worth paying a bit extra for. We had a meal in the evening which was delicious country pub food and the breakfast the next day was excellent. It’s also in the perfect location if you want to go to Keswick. We went and walked around Buttermere the following day which was lovely

All great!

On arrival we were greeted by a lovely, cheerful, chatty lady who also worked behind the bar who sorted everything out for us. The room was a little dated but clean. Unfortunately we were not lucky enough to have a room at the front of the hotel so our view was limited and far from the beautiful views seen from the front of the hotel and beer garden. The evening meal was lovely albeit a little pricey. Breakfast also was very nice and plentiful. I imagine in the lighter, warmer, longer evenings would be magical there as it’s so peaceful and the views are great.

Limited draught ales and lager that were a bit pricey in comparison with the other hotels we stayed at during our NC500 trip. Beware of the sat nav sending you in the wrong direction. Our specimen sent us “straight on “ when in fact we should have a taken a right deviation resulting in us taking a rather lengthy, frustrating and due to the weather a very waterlogged diversion.
