The Courthouse Inn

The bar and restaurant are nicely decorated with the tables well spaced. The atmosphere is cheerful as are the young and courteous staff. Our room in a small single storey building behind the main pub was well furnished and quiet. Breakfast was very good and served by Dale, the manager, who was helpful who ,by his own admission, thoroughly enjoys his work. When service is so often half hearted in the hospitality sector it was refreshing to have such a positive start to our day.

The hand basin in the bathroom was quite small and there was very little space for toiletries. Not a problem for a short stay though.

The breakfast was really good! The staff were really friendly and nothing was too much of a problem. Rooms were clean and well equipped.

It was a little noisy at night, but then again it was a pub! On Booking.com the description says that it's a mile from Colchester centre. The day before our stay we checked out the place and realised it was 10 miles from Colchester which was very inconvenient. We looked for somewhere else, but at that late stage there was nothing in our price range. In the end we took our bikes and had a really arduous cycle at the end of a long days work. Booking.com please change the mileage to reflect the true distance so that others don't make the same mistake.

Everything about the stay was good. It was a one night stopover, but the room was spacious, the bed comfortable and the bathroom big. I had a meal in the evening, which was exceptionally well-battered fish, plus breakfast in the morning with excellent sausage and bacon and absolutely spot-on poached eggs. The staff were friendly and attentive without seeming cloying. They seemed genuinely pleased at providing a good experience. Plenty of space for parking and very close to Colchester town centre.

The only tiny nit-pick is that I can't sleep if there is even a hint of light and the curtains, whilst thick, allowed the light in. But honestly, that is more my own fault for forgetting a mask, as I know I am an outlier.

The rooms were very clean , recently decorated by the look of it . Small touches like bottled water , good selection of teas and coffees , soaps shampoos etc , not always included in rooms at these prices . Surprised to learn that the excellent breakfast was included in the room rate , making it excellent value . Staff very friendly and provided great service . Happy to recommend .

We found the bed a bit firm , just a personal thing , many guests would have a different view. Not a criticism just an observation .

Excellent food. Freshly cooked to order. Room & ensuite spotless. Stunning flower displays in courtyard area. Dale gave us a warm welcome, great sense of humour and went out of his way to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Will definitely rebook when we are back this way.

Purely personal taste: we would have liked a mattress topper, as bed too hard for us. A minor point, but a small shelf or something inside shower for containers would be good.

Can’t speak highly enough of it. Room lovely with everything we needed and very clean. Lovely touches such is bottles of water, huge selection of different teas. Breakfast was amazing beautifully presented and anything you wanted. Staff couldn’t do enough for you. We booked the first night in to the restaurant and could t believe the meal. If was so good we re booked for our second night. We were all impressed and will definitely return.

So clean and extremely well looked after. The room was tastefully decorated plenty of toiletries, tea, coffee and biscuits. Lovely white bed linen and big bath towels. Served a very good choice of food which was well presented. Lovely friendly helpful staff who were all extremely polite and nothing was to much trouble for them. Very good value and convenient for exploring Colchester town and local beaches.

The room was amazing with a great shower, variety of teas available, coffee, hot chocolate drinks and a couple of biscuits. It was very welcoming. Exceptionally clean. Very friendly staff and host. We had a lovely dinner and a great breakfast.

There was nothing that I did not like about this establishment, especially now that booking.com has fixed the "get directions" to point to the correct Harwich Street.

Staff were particularly nice, both helpful and friendly. Food was abundant and nicely produced. Very conveniently located. Very clean. Stunning tubs and baskets of flowers. Everything felt cared for.

Having accessible plugs on both sides of the very comfy bed rather than one side! The only other niggle was that it was clearly so popular, that you had to book a table :-D

This was is a hidden gem. The accommodation was very comfortable, clean & had wifi even though it says there is none. Breakfast was tremendous - enormous full English. The staff were wonderful & so helpful. We stayed in the hotel for our dinner which was delicious & had a very varied menu, I had the beef & truffle pie - absolutely gorgeous made with beautiful, light home made pastry.

Would have been difficult to access without a car
