The Mistley Thorn0

Our room didn't have views over the estuary but was at the back of the hotel. It was very spacious with a well-appointed, modern bathroom and walk in shower enclosure. There were comfy armchairs in the room as well as the super king sized bed. Mattress and pillows very comfy for a good night's sleep. It was very quiet at night, as it didn't overlook the main Harwich Rd through Mistley, so we can't say what it would be like in one of the front-facing rooms. There is only space for 2 cars in the courtyard at the back but we were lucky enough to have one of those spaces. The breakfast was very good and the hotel has a great reputation locally for its sea food menus. Sadly, we were at an event in Felixstowe and couldn't take advantage of an evening meal here. Very handy for visiting Dedham and the wonderful Alfred Munning's Museum - IMO Britain's best ever painter!

Comfortable accommodation in a beautiful location on the EssexWay and close to Dedham Vale. Plenty of choice for breakfast served in the restaurant. We also ate at the restaurant and the food was really good quality. Staff were helpful and friendly.

It would have been reassuring to have some where secure to lock our bikes to in the car park. We had to make do locking the bikes to wooden pallets.

Evening meal and breakfast were very good - selection was reasonable and quality very good. Service was impeccable too. Rooms were comfortable and well appointed. Staff were very appreciative of our needs to just take a nice meal and have a good rest.

We did not have time to fully appreciate the property and services because we were tired and just needed to eat and rest.

Upmarket restaurant and hotel in the quirky village of Mistley on the outskirts of Manningtree. Amazing breakfast. Friendly staff, comfortable room. Highly recommended.

This seems trivial given how wonderful the Mistley Thorn is, but if you're a light sleeper and/or have the window open at night you may need ear plugs. The road outside is quite busy.

The food was excellent, good menu choices plus daily specials and vegan choices. Friendly welcome from staff on arrival and being shown to our room. Nice big bedroom and bathroom.

Sound proofing in the room was not very good. We could hear other guests moving around upstairs.

Cocktails were great.

We would have like a choice of bread white or brown for the toast at breakfast. We were served a rustic brown bread which we did not like. The bacon was streaky and looked uncooked. The beans were not to our taste. Eggs were perfect. If staying again wouldnt have the breakfast.

Restaurant and staff service

Rooms need more attention. Duvets should be single in summer and air conditioning is needed.

The staff were excellent, they were efficient and worked great as a team, The food was excellent, and a great menu .

Not the hotels fault, but the Quay could do with a update, and better access.

Lovely location right on the Stour estuary in quiet village, brilliant food, great breakfast, dog-friendly, easy parking, great staff. Adjacent rooms with lovely views out over the estuary.

I loved the Mistley Thorn. The food was gorgeous, the room spacious and clean with a comfy bed and great power shower. The staff were welcoming, especially to Teddy my cocker spaniel. 😊
