Star Anglia Hotel

The late check-in at midnight was possible but I had to call in. A good location between the town centre and the train station which was important for me. The receptionist/hotel owner gave me some advice how to get to my destination at the next day and even booked a taxi for me.

The receptionist/hotel owner asked me for some proof of identity which should not usually happen. I travelled with some of my friends across the UK for years and nothing like that was ever the case. I did not have my passport with me, luckily I had another type of ID. The bra next to my bed could not be properly used because the power socket was on the opposite side of my bed. There was no table to put it on on the opposite side. Its cable was also too short to plug it in on the opposite side and to use on the side with the table where the bra was standing. The main light was also to dim, I could not read my book with this light.

The rooms where comfy and decorated with a homely feel. The location and car park was very convenient. Not many hotels are a walking distance to town and have free parking. Staff are friendly. I personally think the bad reviews were not to do with the service but discrimination. This hotel definitely has potential and I feel like the staff are working hard to make it Better. I think the improvements that need to be made are reflected in the price a it’s very cheap compared to other hotels in the area.

The shower in my room was far too hot. But when I told reception they put me in a different room there also wasn’t a restaurant or place for breakfast.

The hotel is in an excellent location, quiet but within walking distance of the town and the castle. The free on-site parking was great. The room was lovely; comfortable bed, great shower, great WiFi and the fridge was a bonus. The best thing however, was the people there. They were so friendly and helpful. It makes all the difference. This is where we stay when we visit family in Colchester. Thank you to everyone at Star Anglia for making our wedding anniversary so special.

Nothing. Everything was straight forward and everyone was super friendly.

I stayed in Colchester one night with my daughter to attend a funeral. It was a night of record high temperatures. we found the quality of our rooms and cleanliness excellent. On such a hot night air conditioning would have been a bonus. Free parking was much appreciated. Breakfast was not served until 9.00am which suited us but would have been a problem had we been leaving early. It was served well by a lady who acted as cook, waitress and general hostess. We were at leisure so we enjoyed it but it might have been a problem had we been in a hurry

Friendly staff who allowed an early checkin. Large room (we got upgraded on arrival). Bus stop on road outside. Bus ride to city centre only takes 15 minutes. Small number of restaurants nearby. Quiet room. River walk nearby.

A long walk from city centre so need to take a bus. Many of the shops nearby seemed closed or limited opening hours.

As a women staying on her own I felt safe and very welcome. I was actually staying to visit my mum in hospital. The management and staff are like a big family and made me feel part of that. The room was clean and extremley comfortable, the breakfast was a great set up for the day. Colchester town was a short walk and on the way a beautiful castle and lake. I would love to stay again.

Having to come home.

Helpful information was supplied for sightseeing options. Room and facilities were very clean. Friendly staff. Close to the train station and within walking distance to city centre. Bus stop close by. Fairly quiet room.

Room was very hot although we had a fan supplied to us. Room was small… only one bed side table.

The whole place was very clean. The decor was pleasing and the heating instantly warmed the room on a very cold day. Breakfast was average. The actual situation, which is unchangeable, was at the poor end of town and the awful traffic signage meant we had to walk to the restaurants. To sum up, the hotel was great.

Great central location. I arrived outside of normal check-in times due to road closures. Arrangements were made so that I could collect my room key from a secure, safe box. Excellent customer service.

Very high level of presentation with both the decor and neatness...... appealing to the eye. Quality of hygiene was superb...very comfortable and quiet room with nice supportive bed and a large window that could b opened wide enough to feel the fresh air!! Friendly staff clearly explained room location exit amd key use. Everything you could want and except from a hotel at a good price. Also just 10 mins from Col North Station the town shops ....and the park!!
