Food in Smugglers Cove - bloody awful. Hunters chicken dry with a sticky nondescript sauce,2 onion rings,some very limp rocket lettuce. Chips were OK. Lass that took our order was lovely but the food rates as the worst l have had. Tasted like yesterday's warmed in the microwave. Didn't complain at the time,seemed a waste of time & you already had my payment.Never again!

From the moment you pull up into the car park, it's clean, well laid out & spacious. Reception was bright, smelt lovely & was airy. Susan was really lovely. Took the time to explain what to do and welcomed us. The room was spotless, beds made up with white sheets, shower/bathroom was gleaming and once again the room smelt lovely. The facilities were great, tea, coffee, kettle and the extra factor was that the water in the shower/bathroom was drinkable. Took full advantage of the tea & coffee as brought my own soya milk in case they didn't have any. Overall a truly great experience.

I recently stayed at Smugglers Cove, Clacton On Sea by Marston's Inns, and I'm pleased to share my positive experience. hotel itself was very easy to book in and the staff were very friendly.room was very tidy.location is a bit out of the way but easy enough to get too.have been there twice and stayed in the same room.just have to get the heating turned off at reception as it is allways to warm for me.

only downside is there are a lot of builders who stay there and they do tend to wake you up early.there is a fair bit of noise from the burger drive through just down the road too.

We needed a bed for one night to attend a family christening nearby. This is a clean, functional and well placed hotel but only accessed by a car. Bed extremely comfortable and everything so clean which impressed me. The Smugglers pub opposite is handy and the breakfast was excellent. Liked that we got 20% off our dinner the evening before and we were running late, but they still took our order before closing. The receptionist at the hotel was extremely friendly and made our check in very easy, as we were in a rush to grab the keycard and then get back out to the event. All in all would recommend this hotel.

upon entry the receptionist was really welcoming, and went above and beyond for us. as we went to the room we was welcomed by a nice, bright and fresh room, which considering it had 3 beds in it was lovely and spacious. It’s restaurant and bar is separate to the hotel, meaning we had no noise and felt like we had “gone out” as such.

When we arrived, we was informed aircon had been switched on in the room (considering it was 32 degrees outside this was welcome) however upon entry to the room, we found out the lowest preset is 20 degrees, which for a family of 4 was still much to warm for us to sleep comfortably, it would have been nice for us to be able to have our own option to temperature, however this is a very minor complaint and wouldn’t put us off coming back.

from the second we got out the car and walked through the doors we felt so welcome, the lady working on reception was so so friendly and told us all the information then let us do our thing. the rooms were very spacious, lovely tea area also loved that the pub was seconds away!

loved the view of the sky and sunrise/sunset as per requested but only thing was the diggers etc. which I know can’t be helped so not even trying to complain about it; just maybe pre warn people that they are doing building works :)

The room was comfortable, clean and as advertised. There was plenty of parking and places to eat or get snacks. A LIDL and Tesco stores are within walking distance. The location is some distance from the town centre and beach in Clacton but only 10 minutes in a car.

There was a problem with recurring noise from the air-conditioning fan in the middle of the night. The member of staff was helpful and turned the fan level down from the master control in their office and it was sorted for the next night. However on the third night, the noise was evident again so I turned the temperature gauge to 'off' in the room and that stopped it. It must be either a fault or programming problem.

Above our room was a family with circa 4 children. Unfortunately, they were allowed to jump (I can only imagine!) from the bed onto the floor and were constantly running around. This went on from 8pm to at least 12 midnight then started again at around 6am. By 8am, it was still going on so we went to reception. Rang the bell (several times) and waited for someone to help us but no-one came. we then went up to the room above us but again got no answer! We left at around 9am and could not find anyone to talk to.

The staff were lovely and very welcoming. Took the time to explain everything clearly. Booked our breakfast time on arrival. The hotel was very clean and welcoming- lovely Christmas tree. It felt very secure and safe. The room had everything we needed including plenty of towels, hair dryer and very comfortable beds. Bathwater was lovely and hot and as a plus size person the bath was a great size and I fitted with ease. 11am checkout is fantastic if you want to sleep in. I liked the fact the Restaurant is not attached to the hotel and you don't get all the noise and smells coming into the rooms. The food in the restaurant was nice- I had gammon and chips. Average price for food and drinks. We paid extra for breakfast when we checked in and it was lovely. Very pleased with our last minute night away.

Really we have nothing to dislike. It was a very reasonable priced, in a good location close to shop and restaurant. And only afew minutes in the car to the beach. Was a much needed night away for myself and my daughter after suddenly losing my mum last week, we both needed a night away to recharge.
