From start to finish, the team were brilliant. Check-In was super easy, and they helped my wife take some bags down to the room while I took care of the dog. We had dinner there on the first night which was well received after a long journey to get there. I also had the cooked breakfast in the morning that filled me up nicely for the day. What really stood out was our Check-Out experience. We decided to leave a day early as the family we were up there to see were unfortunately flooded in so we couldn't get to them, nor them to us. We were quite willing to accept that we'd lose the cost that we should've paid for the last nights stay, however, without the blink of an eyelid and about 1 minute after getting back into the room, I had an email through saying that the cost of my stay had been cut from 3 nights to 2 nights. Absolutely brilliant hospitality that's driven me to write my first review in many many years. Outstanding work, Team Buccleuch.

Everything was brilliant.

We knew that it was bed and breakfast only at this time of year so booked elsewhere for dinner. The hotel is very central, nice friendly pub next door. The public rooms are huge and very comfortable. Well thought out decor, with cozy chairs and settees, nice lighting. All walls have interesting photos and cuttings and very clever use of pictures of old Moffat made into wall coverings. You could spend hours (and learn a lot) looking at all these. The bedroom was large enough to accommodate ourselves and 2 Labradors comfortably. It is a good idea to ask guests to order breakfast the night before… all is freshly cooked with an excellent choice of meat, fish, eggs etc. and ready at a convenient time for the guests. Above all the staff were helpful and friendly, an example to many other hotels.

I know it’s not possible to change but… I dislike rotary toasters. The toast is never properly cooked. Sorry!!

This is an ancient coaching inn. A 3 star hotel offering 5 star service and staff. Great food selection and a wonderful breakfast.

Nothing really.

Everything was excellent. The hotel was well organised. The rooms were clean and well decorated. The bed was comfortable. The hotel was very quiet and the food was excellent. However, the thing I liked best was the friendliness of the owner and his family. They were genuinely interested in meeting guests and looking after us.

Now I am being really picky here when I say that the bedroom for my wife and I could have been a bit bigger in order to accommodate us and our luggage. We were not travelling light. We had two large suitcases, four small bags and a guitar and we had to step around some of these belongings. We managed and loved the place.

This is motorbike / motorcycle paradise!! Lots of facilities for bikers including individual garages for bikes, cleaning stuff, pressure washer, secure parking, and safe location. Suggested routes provided on request, as print outs or gpx files for the satnav, making use of detailed local knowledge. Excellent breakfasts and evening meals, with a good choice, and a decent bar. Fantastic attention to detail, customer service second to none!! For all budding hoteliers, this is a great business model aimed at upmarket bikers wanting service with a smile, and single beds!!! Check it out - and the riding was great too

No dancing girls - but that was probably a good thing as well...

A very well run hotel with excellent food, breakfasts and rooms. A well done menu giving ample choice and good quality portions ... and nothing to complain about. The staff/owners are always there and make for a great atmosphere. Plenty of advice on travelling/touring the area is freely given. A popular spot for touring motorcyclists but easily recommended for anyone/family. Lounge areas give quiet space and a small bar area allows some separation. Meals and breakfast is in a dining area which works very well keeping the spaces separated. I'm a repeat guest over a 10yr period and this hotel is lovely.

I personally can't find any faults ... this is a period hotel in a small town with plenty of atmosphere and character.

This hotel is in a great location for exploring the roads of Dumfries and Galloway or as a springboard for a road trip into the Highlands and Islands. It has secure parking facilities for bikes, a large library of touring resources and the knowledge and enthusiasm of the hosts make this a great base. Our rooms were well appointed, clean and bright. The breakfasts and the evening meals were substantial and superb. Parking was free in the town square right outside the door. This is a family run hotel, and the service from everyone concerned was friendly, helpful and efficient.

Having stayed here previously we knew what to expect and were not disappointed. We travelled here on our motorbikes which are stored securely at the rear of the hotel. The family who run the hotel are bikers and understand the need for excellent security. They are a lovely family who make you feel very welcome and tend to your every need to make your stay comfortable.

The weather was extremely hot when we stayed and even with the window open the room was stifling. An electric fan would be a good addition for those hot nights in summer. Unfortunately our room was over the passage way to the rear garden where the bikes are stored so we were woken very early by other guests leaving the premises.

Everything about the hotel was exceptional. It was clean, stylish, roomy, with excellent service. Breakfast was great and great value for money. Everyone from the owner, waiting staff, to the cleaners were all friendly and genuine. Their service was attentive and efficient, nothing was too much trouble. The room itself was well equipped and comfortable, with a great shower, and a lovely relaxing view. There was great secure bike storage for my husband's E-bike. We would definitely recommend staying here, and we intend to go back.

What can I say really? If you're a biker (or even if you're not!) and Moffat is on your route there is no other place to stay. The staff were incredibly welcoming and engaging. A very efficiently run hotel and exceptional service. After a long days riding these are all things you can hope for. The bike-specific facilities were five star and the general atmosphere of the hotel was really nice. The map room was a great surprise - never seen anything like it. Will be visiting again.

That I only got to stay for one night!
