Caledonian Hotel

Decent hotel and what we expected for the price! It was in an ideal location for us, not too far from the centre. Plenty of parking spaces too. The room and ensuite bathroom were clean and comfortable. The bed was a little hard for my siblings, but perfect for me, with comfy pillows and a warm duvet. There was an older style heater in the room (not radiator) which worked well enough and kept the room a good temperature! Breakfast was standard - a buffet style, help yourself to eggs, sausages, toast, coffee, tea and juice. There was also a bar which was open till 9pm, and you could buy drinks to take up to your room. And the staff were friendly. The room came with your standard kettle, tea and coffee, and even some hot chocolate. The addition of little biscuits and a small bowl of sweets was nice. There was no evening meal available at the restaurant, so we ordered a take away which was fine!

Nothing much really! The staff were a little hard to find sometimes. The bar wasn't regularly staffed, which bearing in mind it was empty of customers is understandable. It might be off putting for some people, but just ring the bell in the foyer and someone will come.

Room had everything that was needed. Nice to have hot chocolate in the room for those of us that don't drink tea/coffee. Room had a mix of original features and modern touches. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic. Excellent value for money.

Was woken up by music playing at 7am. Not sure if it was within the hotel or elsewhere, but would rather not be woken up this way. Think it was the position of our room, don't think it would have been an issue for other rooms.

A clean and comfortable room. Lovely clean bedding and comfortable beds. The ensuite was a bit dated but very clean, and there was plenty of hot water. A good breakfast and plenty of it. Excellent.

The smell of cigarette smoke in the entrance. It was probably smokers by the door, but it would be better if they were away from the entrance. The serving staff were friendly and pleasant, but some of their tunics were quite scruffy - they needed to iron them.

Nice clean beds and modern shower room

No evening restaurant and the bar was fairly empty at night but not a fault of management, just circumstances, the breakfast was good and the staff were extremely pleasant and to be honest, it was good value for money, maybe an information leaflet re eating places nearby would be good. we ate in the Solway restaurant at the premier Inn about two minutes away, out to the left of the hotel entrance and approx two mins along, all in all good value

Excellent - self service buffet with plenty to choose from. It was located adjoining the dining room so no interuptions when enjoying breakfast.

Everything was perfect and as expected although as no evening meals were available it might have been nice to have had a light evening snack available at the bar - eg. toastie/sandwich. Being pedantic as external eating options available in the vicinity.

This hotel does what it says on the tin and offers reasonable priced accommodation including breakfast in a warm and welcoming environment. Some of the fittings in the room needed attention ie I could not turn on the hot tap in the sink in the bathroom but apart from that, things went well. You can really fill yourself up for the day with their breakfast. It also gives easy access to both the town and the by pass.

Good choice at breakfast. Buffet regularly replenished and food was good quality.

Lack of a lounge to read in whist the bedroom was being cleaned. The hotel has two bar areas, which were locked. If one of the bar areas (not the bar itself) could be left open so that the seating was available, this would have been very useful.

Great location just a 10minute stroll into town. Room was bigger than I thought it would be, the bed was a standard double which is fine but it’s been a while since we’ve shared a double and both like to spread out but that is just us being fussy really. There was no one on reception when we arrived but I rang the phone number and was able to get my key straight away which suited us fine. Breakfast was nice and we didn’t really expect this with such a cheap price so that was an added bonus. Free parking on site found a space easily. Hotel was nice and clean. The breakfast staff were friendly. Really pleased with our stay and would definitely recommend.

Cosy, extremely clean and comfortable. Very traditional. Staff were helpful and courteous and the excellent breakfast was plentiful.

The property was as above. Something to remember is that this hotel does not provide evening meals, although there is a bar. Therefore, you will need to identify a restaurant or similar. There is an Italian restaurant within 200 yards walking distance, but be sure to book.

Stayed in a family room which was reasonably spacious, comfortable, clean and quiet. Selection of teas, coffee, hot chocolate and some biscuits in the room which was also equipped with hairdrier, iron etc. Staff were all really friendly. Buffet breakfast was decent quality and nothing ran out. Lots of parking out the back of the hotel. About a ten minute walk into the centre of Dumfries.
