Centre Of Britain Hotel

Everything. We had one of the self-contained rooms attached to the rear of the main hotel as we travelled with two dogs and the room gave us access to the outside via the rear courtyard and parking area. The bed (very comfortable indeed) was upstairs, with a living area and the bathroom below. Everything was spotless. There was a sauna, which we didn’t use. The staff were exceptionally helpful. Breakfast was lovely, plentiful, with a wide choice including vegetarian and vegan options. Haltwistle is a lovely, quiet little town, and the hotel was right in the centre - very conveniently located for activities eg visiting Hadrian’s Wall, but also not far from north-south motorways. For the dogs, there were lots of grassy areas to walk them in and around the town. We will be making the hotel a regular stop when travelling between England and Scotland.

Warm welcoming hosts. Very spacious, well appointed room, excellent breakfast and dinner. Particularly enjoyed the armchairs by the fire in our room! Plus, the little jars of fruit on the breakfast table were a lovely addition. The location was excellent, being in the town centre. Vindolanda is just down the road. Hexham and Newcastle are all very accessible by road, bus or train.

If you own a large vehicle, then you may find the entrance to the rear car park challenging 😉 We have a Honda CRV , which was fine, any larger vehicle should probably give it a miss. There is a public car park directly behind.

The room is one of the largest I have experienced in any hotel. The food cannot be faulted snd the staff are helpful and friendly. My wife and I have visited this hotel almost every year for the last decade. It is consistently excellent. Location for those seeking to visit the various historical sites on Hadrian's Wall could not be better

Nothing at all. The restoration of parts of the old tower is on going. Access to the rear car park woukd, I suspect, be challenging for owners of larger vehicles.

The staff were super friendly. My room was in the courtyard. It had a lovely sitting room with a bathroom at the rear (lovely big walk in power shower), and my bed was on the mezzanine. There was a velux window above the bed. I left the blind up and fell asleep looking at the stars. The staff went out of their way and did an early breakfast for me. There was plenty to choose from. It was really tasty and set me up nicely for the day ahead. I stayed two nights. Looking forward to coming back up. Will definitely stay here again. It exceeded all my expectations.

Beautiful building with lots of original features Amazing breakfast cooked to order. Fantastic, friendly and efficient staff. Christine was especially amazing with my children!! Spa bath was much appreciated after a days walking. Town centre location so some noise, bins, trucks, speeding cars etc due to old windows Secluded private suite Suite had everything we could have needed, they even offered plates for days we might want a takeaway etc

A perfect location for exploring around Hadrian's Wall. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the meals were delicious and our room was clean and comfortable. We were especially grateful for the kind and thoughtful treatment of our rather nervous dog, who thoroughly enjoyed her sausages at breakfast time!

Location was perfect for exploring Hadrians Wall and Vindolanda. Checkin was easy and the manager even assisted with carrying my parents bags upstairs. Our family room was large and comfortable (travelled with adult son) and my parents room was changed to be closer to ours, which was much appreciated. Off street parking was also provided. We dined at Zaki indian restaurant, food and service was excellent. Breakfast exceeded expectations with a variety of cereals, fruits and a full cooked breakfast. I would highly recommend staying at the Centre of Britain Hotel.

Nothing to not like, fantastic experience.

history of the building, sympathetically updated with some of the original fort visible, knowledgeable staff who couldn’t do more for us. breakfast was extensive and filling - indeed, no need for lunch! well situated in the middle of the town near many choices of eatery

entrance to the carpark is down a very narrow street and through an arch, if travelling in a very long or wide car you may struggle to get in

This is a great little hotel. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. David is very knowledgeable of the area. Leigh made me feel like I was more than just another random guest. The food is fantastic. Really just a great little hotel. If I ever make it back to this side of the world again, definitely staying here again.

I had to leave, holidays suck like that.

When we arrived, our booking was altered to give us a more suitable room. Our bikes were stored in a dining room which was not being used. Our room was really comfortable, and the bathroom spotless. We were given the dinner menu on arrival and asked to choose our dishes, which then were ready for us when we went to the dining room.

Nothing really - it was great. Perhaps a bit more expensive than we would normally have chosen, but you get what you pay for, and it was really nice.
