George Hotel

The hotel stands in front off the very wide North Tyne River, although it is Feb. looks so inviting to swim in, but would be too cold at this month of the year. The hotel is nicely located for travelling around this area and there is even a bus service for Hadrians Wall.

A person/visitor would have to be a real pain to try and find any faults with this hotel. From the welcome at the reception,to the beautiful sights from the bedrooms on to the gardens outside. To the pleasant bartender and the smiling waitress’s in the dining room to the “Happy Good Mornings”, we had a really good stay.

Some of the reviews of this place are, quite frankly, cruel. We stayed here whilst walking Hadrian’s Wall and found it extremely comfortable and we got a warm welcome from all staff. The room had recently been refurbished and contained just about everything we needed. The evening meal, which was included in the price of the room, was absolutely fine. Breakfast was a little basic, if I am being picky (no muesli or bananas) but we hardly paid fine dining ‘Michelin star’ prices. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone who needed a hotel in the area.

If I’m being picky - no muesli or bananas for breakfast and no ironing board in room to go with the iron, which was helpfully available in the wardrobe.

Excellent location. Easy access rooms for taking out my dog. Doggies very, very welcome. Loverly helpful staff. Whilst I didn't use the pool it looked very nice. Brilliant large grounds with comfortable seating directly facing the river. Very reasonable pricing. Ignore poor reviews, this place is in an excellent location for walking and visiting some of the most important Roman ruins. Simple clean rooms. Brilliant hardworking staff. And Dog friendly too.

Nothing really not to like. Menu limited but adequate for short breaks. Could use a good groundsman, gardens need a little work.

The location was perfect for our walk. The grounds were very beautiful. The breakfast was excellent and the highlight of the stay.

The room needed a facelift. There as a spot in the bedroom and another the the bathroom where it looked as if the ceilings had previous water damage and mold had started to grow. Both ends of the shower hose (where it connected the the shower head and where it connected the the water supply) were loose to the extent that more came out of the loose connections than from the shower head. They placed a sticker regarding laundry of towels in the center bottom of the small bathroom mirror. It blocked your face unless you were tall.

Good food with a good choice. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The leisure facilities are small but excellent. The view in the dining room is fantastic

We loved the location of your hotel, stunning views, booking was easy we had no problems, the bedroom was comfortable and clean, the. Bar tender was very helpful and friendly as was reception, would certainly recommend the taxi firm advance, they were very helpful to us

We stayed with you for 2 nights so we had 2 breakfasts and each breakfast we had was really not brilliant, not much of a choice and when my partner asked for an item on the hot buffet, he had to wait 20 minutes before it was replenished, not quite sure why this happened other than maybe no enough staff on duty .

lovely setting near the bridge, tranquil setting, walk to some ruins, Hadrian’s wall, through a few sheep paddocks.

no aircon, window was locked open but no breeze. left a small fan in the room, and it was a warm night for the area. nowhere for the hand towel to hang in bathroom near sink, shower stall was tiny, and I didn’t get extreme hot water in the shower, was Luke warm, but very hot in the sink. was served a dried up piece of toast with a smear of something white and a few scraps of smoked salmon, and a few lettuce leaves that were dried out and wilted. main and dessert were much better.

Lovely big building, beautiful gardens on banks of river. We requested a room with a bath, our room was very spacious and the bath much appreciated as we had completed a long days walk along Hadrian’s wall.

No bottled water in the room, and only small bottles available to purchase at the bar. For walkers, bottled water is essential. Also, we purchased a packed lunch for the following day’s walk, and instead of a much needed chocolate bar, we were given bourbon biscuits, really! Pleas be a bit kinder to the needs of Hadrians wall walkers who are no doubt bringing in a lot of business to your hotel.
