stunning views if you pay a little extra for the harbour view. The staff were excellent and very welcoming. I loved the outside lookout seating area, having a cocktail watching the boats come and go is just lovely.

I only have 2 negative comments, but these things didn’t ruin my stay, they are just suggestions really - 1. a fridge in the room would be nice, just to keep snacks and drinks in. 2. the breakfast was average, the coffee wasn’t filtered properly so had bits in, even after I asked for the first one to be changed. I think we would have preferred a hot buffet (you have to order hot food, and there was little vegetarian options so just had scrambled eggs) We came down for breakfast at 9.30 and all the continental cold food was gone, we were left with Weetabix (we left breakfast still hungry)

nice restaurant

cooked breakfast was good - continental very poor. I had to have cooked breakfast every day , but would of preferred continental , fruit salad swimming in juice, very off putting, all apple, , no variety , we ate at 9.00am in mornings and only apple in fruit salad. no nice fresh bread, all danish pastries had gone by time we sat for breakfast. no granalo or fresh berries. I appreciate you have to keep costs down with rising costs, but we did pay £300 a night for bed and breakfast so expected a grand layout for that price. Staff were exceptional. such lovely friendly , helpful, people , so nice to be around them.

As my wife has walking difficulties the location was ideal, The staff are brilliant, very friendly and Craig is very good and professional. hotel is well equipped for disabled people. Our main meal on the second night arrived before our starter and was taken away and was kept warm. the chicken was so dry and the bean stew was not what we expected, Jackie did not charge us for the meal and offered us a different meal.

We booked the restaurant for 2 nights and on the first night the service was excellent, braised beef was excellent but you have to order a side as the meal comes with just cheesy mash and a few tomatoes and the side is £3.50 for just a little cabbage. The second night we ordered a garlic prawn starter and Chicken supreme, the mains came before the starter and when the chicken arrived it was so dry as it must have been under a heater lamp the chicken was served with with a spicy bean stew which was not edible, we did complain and was not charged for the main course. both meals were priced at £18 pounds without vegetable

The location is beautiful. The only gripe I have is that I had to park on Marine Drive. (About half a mile away, and I am an 82 year old woman), as the cost of an overnight stay on the quayside was £26 and there were no spaces available anyway. My 95 year old sister had to wait in reception as unluckily for me, there was a music festival in progress and parking nearby was impossible. The terrible noise also spoiled the peace and quiet and the natural sounds of the river that I nostalgically remember from previous visits and was the main reasons I chose The Portbyhan Hotel and a riverside room with balcony rather than the Hannafore Point Hotel.

As Looe's shopkeepers and hotels rely on the money brought in by tourists, I think that the Portbyhan Hotel and the Council (or whoever controls the parking facilities), should come to an agreement and allot a certain number of parking spaces, opposite the hotel, specifically for guests at the Portbyhan Hotel. I know cars are an anathema nowadays but they are also a lifeline for independent people and businesses.

The staff all went out of their way to be helpful and kind, and appeared to be enjoying their work and worked well as a team. Our room was spotlessly clean, thoughtfully furnished and we enjoyed the view and the morning sunshine. Our supper last night was from an interesting menu and every mouthful was delicious. The waiters were attentive and helpful. Our breakfast this morning served by smiling members of staff, had wonderful variety in the choice of food served and the Cornish breakfast was one of the best we have enjoyed anywhere. In the way that the tomatoes had a sprinkling of herbs on them, it looked like the chef had taken pride in preparing the food for us.

Lovely spot, very friendly and welcoming staff in all areas and whatever their role . Felt very welcome

Not the Hotel fault, but the only issue we found was that there were many older residents, who seemed to be early birds and we were woken every morning at 6 by banging of doors, loud talking in corridors and general noise ! Slightly frustrating as we were there for a relaxing break . As I said this was not anything the hotel could be responsible for but if there are usually coach parties of this sort a consideration

Location was spot on, everything was in easy reach of the hotel, the staff were all very friendly and helpful, the room was lovely and big with a wonderful balcony to look at the river and town views, the shower was fantastic, hot and powerful, the bed was big and very comfortable, the breakfast was very good, full English (Cornish) with a choice of how many items you wanted and the way they were cooked, with many other continental options, the evening meal was very upmarket, and could have been from a posh restaurant, overall a very nice hotel.

I have said this in other reviews, for the amount of money you pay a mini fridge is needed in these rooms with a couple of bottles of water and maybe some complimentary drinks or sweets. just a nice touch for those who chose to pay for the more expensive rooms.

The hotel was about a 10 minute walk from Looe Train Station and on a quiet street with the River across the road. My dog and I were met with a very warm welcome from the receptionist upon our arrival on a damp November evening. My room was compact but adequate for my needs as a solo traveler accompanied by my small dog, it had all that I required for my 2 night stay. There was an onsite restaurant, bar and lounge which meant I didn't have to venture out in the wind and rain in the evenings. The staff made my small dog feel very welcome and she loved the attention she received during her stay. Breakfast was very good, with continental and cooked buffet style traditional breakfast with other hot food available to order. All of the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout my stay. The bedrooms were accessed by both stairs and a lift

Nothing to dislike.

The hotel was excellent and its location was amazing on the river and just a few minutes walk to east Looe. Beautiful clean rooms, lovely breakfast, the staff were so friendly and efficient, nothing was too much trouble for them. Lovely carvery on the Sunday. I would highly recommend this hotel.

The only negative I have was on the Sunday evening the kitchen closed at 6.30pm(even though they were advertising it open until 9pm) and there was no food available after that time not even a sandwich. I was travelling with 2 elderly people so having settled on the beautiful terrace with a drink went to order food and had to go out to get something to eat.

Room was very clean with lots of storage options. Shower easy to use and view over the harbour was nice. Staff were lovely and very helpful, I had no problem with the service.

Very hot room with only a fan. I'd recommend looking into some sort of air con if possible. For what I paid for the room, I would've expected it to be bigger and have a bigger window if the view was what I paid for.
