Grand Hotel Gosforth Park

On arrival we were greeted by Ian and Anna who made us feel very welcome and even took the trouble to name some of the best places to visit during our stay. All the staff were really friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was big and spacious with a mini fridge and a safe. We were also given a large fan as it was soooo hot. The breakfast was excellent and plenty of choice and the bar food was very good too. The pool and spa area were extremely relaxing and surprisingly quiet most days. My favourite was the freezing cold plunge pool. What a great feeling of wellbeing after being in there

Breakfast was excellent. The room was a good size and the facilities in the bathroom were adequate. Evening meal in the bar had a good choice of basic meals. The bed was comfortable and the TV huge. Excellent road links for travelling and a good sized carpark. The hotel was close to Gosforth Park and Golf Course.

The toilet leaked water continuously the shower had a curtain but a new clean one at least. The room was a little chilly as the heating was off when I arrived. It took a while to warm up from the single radiator.

I loved the way that the staff went out of there wsy to help our every needs ,, as it is only are 2nd time staying there ,,the reception staff we're amazing ,,1 women in patecialer called Anna she went up and beyond to make our stay extra special,,nothink was to much trouble gor here ,,she was so kind and cating ,,and the scitish manager scot he was so kind and friendlt and also very much polite ,, the bar people were very kind to ,,Annas son was acceptably kind and very helpful to,, but the main lady that stood out for me was Anna i would definitely recommend this hotel ,,we will definitely be staying there again ,,the room was amazing on the 3rd floor,,and was very gud value gor money we hope to see yous vary soon again ,,and once again thankyou for an amazing stay x,,

If i had to choose just our room was to far down the coridor as i am a disabled Lady and it was a bit to far to walk,,and there was no mirror on my dresding table as it made it a bit hard to dry my hair ,,

Reception were extremely friendly and helpful, we were staying over to compete in the Great North Run the following day and the gentleman that checked us in was very knowledgeable. He was also helpful with information about getting to the start line which was so useful as we are not familiar with the area at all.

Our only complaint would be the massive increase in price for that particular night, clearly due to the fact that many people need accommodation for the run. We found this very disappointing as we have competed in the London Marathon and hotels remained at the usual rate and were far cheaper than the price we were forced to pay in Newcastle.

The check-in was smooth, swift, and professional. We arrived early and the gentleman at the reception obliged us with an early check-in waiving the early check-in fees! The room was spacious, bright, and well-ventilated. The bed was super comfortable with extra pillows in the double wardrobesThe bathroom was spotless and impeccable. There was an adequate number of towels as well. Tea and coffee are .provided with a telephone handy to contact room service for extra provisions if needed

As a seasoned traveler living in and out of hotel rooms, I was actively looking for faults with this hotel and can honestly say I did not find any

The reception staff were very helpful and courteous. The room was spacious, with a comfortable bed and good shower and bath. The location is ideal for travelling onwards past Newcastle on the A1 and for linking into the A69. Breakfast is quite flexible, which is good - you can pay for a full continental option or a smaller bacon sandwich and coffee / tea option. The gym is well appointed (running machines, step machine, rowing machines and some weight machines).

Overall, everything was great and I would definitely stay there again. The only (very small) points that I raise for other travelers are (i) the room smelled quite stale when we entered, and needed to be aired (which we did easily by opening the windows, so it was a quick fix), (ii) there is no small 'yoghurt, fruit, cereal, toast' breakfast option - those items were only accessible as part of the full buffet breakfast, (iii) the pool was a lounging / gentle swimming teardrop-shaped pool rather than a 'can swim lengths' pool, which isn't uncommon in hotels.

Friendly and helpful reception staff, and other staff all had a good attitude and were helpful. Good sized room which was clean, and good en-suite bathroom, with a bathtub. Plenty of parking. The restaurant was closed, but the food served in the bar was reasonable. There was a misprint on the drinks menu, offering a 500ml glass of wine - it was meant to be 250ml. The staff honoured the error, and I assume that the drinks menu has now been changed.

The lighting in the room was abysmal, if you wanted to read or do some work. There were no drinking glasses in the room, just flimsy plastic cups. There was no floor bathmat in the bathroom. I would have expected both drinking glasses and a bathmat for a hotel of this quality. The windows in the room were old in design, cloudy, and not pleasant to look out of. The hotel probably needs to have a bit of refurbishment in this respect.

I must first state that Anna on reception was fantastic with us, she helped us out after we had our first accomodation cancelled on us when we arrived in Newcastle. Due to the owner of the house that we had booked letting the property to a higher bidder and not informing us even though I had only been intouch with him 2 weeks earlier to confirm all was ok, we found ourselves stranded. Booking.com sent us to the Grand Hotel and thats were Anna really helped with the booking and getting us sorted out. she did a great job.

All was great with the hotel, only slight negative was the hotel was up near the racecourse so an expensive taxi to get back from Newcastle centre, made more expensive than usual because of the Sam Fender gig at the football stadium that night, taxis could charge whatever they wanted. This did not spoil our stay at all. Maybe the bar could stay open later, it closes at 11pm

Was given an upgrade on arrival to a 'standard' room as we'd booked a small which was nice. Check in nice and easy as usual plenty of parking despite it being a busy races weekend. Room was nice enough, bathroom was decent with a good shower. Bar area decent and not too expensive meals looked nice. We'll stay again when racing as its ideally situated 10 mins walk from the course.

Only one lift working. Only 3 hangers in the wardrobe !!!!! and you need to request your room to be cleaned rather than declining which we didn't figure out so nearly ran out of teabags !! Small issues really. It was more pricy than normal for 2 nights but I suppose the Easter/Races demand explains that.
