In a pleasant environment, imbedded in the countryside but within easy reach of urban centres. Even in the summer there was the provision of self-controlled heating available at key times, a generous touch I felt, and as an elderly person this was appreciated. Very nice period property feel to the building but with the necessary modern facilities. Nice menus in the restaurant with the food nicely cooked.

Not really a negative particularly but I am used to the choice and flexibility one gets with a buffet breakfast which is not provided here. There was no problem with the choice on the menu or quality of provision but one has to ask for everything individually whereas a buffet breakfasts tends to offer greater flexibility of choice.

Breakfast location really good. Maybe 2 staff would be better to cover. This would ensure utensils, juice, tea urn, cups etc were topped up, without having to ask. Restaurant was excellent with a good choice, would definitely recommend. Location was great, near to A1 for travelling to various tourist spots. Definitely worth staying here.

We asked for toast following our breakfast on our final day and was advised that this would be chargeable. We had toast on previous days, with mo mention of extra cost. On arrival we checked the base of the shower and it looked very unclean, as was some of the grout. We mentioned to staff and they said we can guess which room you are in. They advised the shower had been cleaned but the residue on the base of shower was from old mats that were used. We were offered extra towels to put in the base of the shower then on our last day a rubber shower mat was provided.

Great location with an up to day tv. Bed was comfortable and food was delicious. Good shower facilities too. Free wi-fi also which you get good speeds on too.

The room was pretty hot and their was no air conditioning or fan to put on and only a small window for ventilation. Not ideal in the summer heat. Also when having the window open you end up with load of bugs etc in the room due to it being close to forest and nature. Bit of a catch 22 situation haha. Although the food was very nice it is also quite expensive. A starter, main and a pint for me alone was £30. Which imo is a little on the pricey side, but you don’t mind so much as the food is really nice.

Free parking on site, ease of access to main road network. In the bar and eating areas there is a relatively good level food of food provision. A comfortable stay in general.

Nothing to dislike really but I do Find the lack of help yourself items at breakfast slightly tedious. Perhaps a toaster? Breakfast was nicely cooked but due to the lack of buffet items it can be a bit disjointed. For example I ordered toast and marmalade and a full English and it all appeared on the same plate! I had to ask for another plate! The carpet in my room was clean and hygienic but it was seemingly old and had become stained.

The staff were all very friendly and efficient. There was a wide choice of food, all of which was well cooked, all credit to the chef and kitchen team. Food prices were very reasonable. The location.was very good.

The room was slightly shabby. The shower cubicle has a high and fairly wide step which makes it difficult to get out safely, as there is nothing to hold on to. There was a fair amount of mould in the shower, particularly along the bottom of the door frame . As a minor point, the basin plug did not fit properly, which was ironic as there was a notice exhorting guests to conserve water.

Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was well presented and tasty

The TV in the room was at an ackward angle to the bed so we couldn't watch TV without twisting our neck. After booking we were sent a message informing us that the room booked had no tea and coffee making facilities and didn't have an ensuit. We were offered to upgrade for an additional £9. I paid the extra to upgrade only to discover when I arrived that all of the rooms had tea and coffee making facilities and all had an ensuite. Not sure if the message was generated by booking.com as the staff member seemed surprised that we had received it. Anyway, if you get a message like my suggestion would be to contact the hotel directly before paying the additional, unnecessary cost.

The room was large and comfortable. However there was only one small window, we were in the eaves of the building, so the room was quiet dark. This would not normally bother me, but I didn't see any air conditioning and the room was warm. We stayed at the beginning of June. This would have caused me a problem if the weather had been hotter. The room also backed onto the kitchens and was quiet noisy i.e. extract fans running through out the night. If you are sensitive to noise I would recommend asking for a quiet room as other rooms had a better outlook. Breakfast was excellent. However we also ate at the restaurant in the evening and the food was only fair in my opinion. For a chain this hotel was as good as most and better than some, but not outstanding.

Situation of room.

Breakfast was extremely nice and very good value plenty to choose from and sitting area was also nice a relaxed atmosphere, we also had a table booked for a meal and thoroughly enjoyed it,our foom was extremely spacious and comfortable.

No fault of your own but lack of sleep as we had extremely noisy neighbours opposite and at the side of us must of been partying they were in corridors non stop up until about 2 am, I would recommend a sign put up about to be aware of other guests and for them to be respectful after a certain time like after 11pm.

Great location, nice old public house

Small things -constructive feed back on an other wise lovely stay. I was given a disabled room (which is fine) the sink in the bathroom was tiny, there was no shelf so you had to use the toilet top as a shelf (not a good idea) also the mirror at the sink was small and set for a wheel chair. Many less abled people may use this ground floor room, it needs a bigger mirror that covers low and std height, sone one with knee or hip joint trouble could not kneel down to see In the mirror.

Beautiful country pub in idyllic surroundings. Staff were exceptionally friendly, cosy rooms set in an annexe just off the pub itself. We're there to attend a wedding at Shotten Grange just 2 mins down the road so didn't have time to explore the surroundings but I am told there are some lovely walks and also only about 10miles to bith Newcastle centre and the airport. Would love to visit again .

There was nothing to dislike. We ate in the restaurant which was reasonably priced for Dinner and breakfast. Lovely food served with a smile.
