Porch House

Porch House is in a superb location an easy walk, even with luggage, from the station. The historical house is full of amazing antiques, our vast bedroom had a four poster bed and ensuite and we could not have been made to feel more comfortable. We also enjoyed the chocolates and fruit found in the bedroom each morning. The breakfast was cooked to perfection with an array of tempting choices. We wish that we had booked more than two nights but that is easily remedied when we book for a longer period in the future. Outstanding hosts, a beautiful house and amazing food. Ten out of ten for everything.

I loved my stay at the Porch House. Charles and Christine went above and beyond to make me comfortable from the moment I arrived, and extended this same warmth and hospitality to a friend of mine who wasn't even staying at the Porch House, allowing them to breakfast with me and making them feel welcome. The personal touch and care was evident everywhere, from the home-baked biscuits that greeted me in my lovely room, to the ride to the railway station that Charles provided to me at the end of my stay. Very, very highly recommended.

There was nothing at all that I didn't like. It was absolutely perfect.

Porch House is in a handy location on the main road through Northallerton. The building has an interesting history. It was great to have off street parking at the back of the property. The bed was comfy and there were lots of nice 'extras' like chocolate and fruit in the room. Breakfast used good quality ingredients and was cooked to order. The welcome tea and cake was appreciated too.

We found the traffic noise and the fridge in the room disturbed us during the night/early morning. The shower room is on the small side.

Everything about Porch house was outstanding. From the moment I stepped through the door, I felt like I'd been transported through time and back a couple of hundred years. Fabulous decor, beautifully well maintained historical building filled with love, warmth, antiques, quality and comfort. My welcome was exceptional, and I was made to feel like a Queen each day. I've never had a little thermos of cold milk on the bedroom tea tray before, and it's honestly little details like that which are pure gold for me! Breakfast was a dream- all locally sourced, high quality ingredients. My expectations were exceeded with this wonderful B&B, and you will be seeing me again the next time I visit the UK!

This is a very charming bed and breakfast, well run by a lovely couple who couldn't have made my stay any better. Guests are able to take advantage of a lovely antique sitting room, with a coal fire and homemade cakes (mine pie was gorgeous!). Plenty of nearby options for dinner and drinks being set at the top of the high street, The room was exceptionally comfortable and the en-suite shower was excellent. Breakfast was a show-stopper, all freshly cooked and was delicious. Will stay again when needed; great experience.

Nothing wrong at all. The stay was perfect, comfortable and I was well attended to.

The room was very clean and there were extras like tea and coffee, robes, flowers, a beautiful selection of fruits and even chocolates. The bedding was of exceptional quality. We were warm. The room overlooked a beautiful walled garden and it was peaceful. The breakfast was absolutely superb. Beautiful selection of fresh fruits and yogurt( which I love) , freshly squeezed orange juice ( don't come across that very often) and even the pot of tea was so good. We opted for full Yorkshire breakfast, but there were kippers, omelette, porridge, all sorts of choices. Friendly service. All kinds of extras. It was so genteel- beautiful crockery, even napkin rings, everything was perfect. Also free parking was provided and we were allowed to leave our car there the following morning whilst we shopped. An absolutely beautiful house, decorated and furnished to the highest standard.

The bed was too soft, but that's just personal preference. We chose a king room, expecting a king size bed, but it was just double.

Great hosts very welcoming and hospitable. Tea and cake on arrival and fresh fruit and delicious chocolates in our room. We were in the twin room overlooking the beautiful walled garden at the rear of the property so it was nice and quiet and the room was very comfortable. Great breakfast with plenty of choice, the Yorkshire breakfast was excellent. Porch House is ideally located on the High Street just a 15 minute walk to the railway station. We are looking forward to a second visit.

There wasn't anything not to like. Ticked all our boxes. No complaints. Just sorry we hadn't booked a longer stay.

In a word, perfect! Porch House is an outstanding building steeped in history and perfectly located on Northallerton High Street. The owners Christine and Charles are wonderful hosts and made our short stay a real pleasure. Our room was delightful, beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean and exceptionally comfortable - we slept like logs! The corridors and lounge are decorated with superb vintage maps and lovely antiques and there is also a very nice garden. Breakfast was excellent too, our stay really could not have been any better!

lovely little touches like fresh fruit in the room the welcome with would you like a tea /coffee. absolutely charming property. location is spot on nice pubs next door and opposite. I didn’t realise the amount of history within the property. it was booked last minute just a stop off to break up a long journey. wish I stayed longer and wasn’t in a hurry . it was only when I got home I found out about Charles the 1st stayed there. I’m a bit gutted I didn’t have a chat and a tour round the house. never mind next time.

Christine and Charles could not have made us feel more welcome during our weekend at the historic Porch House. Their attention to detail is outstanding and the room contained many thoughtful little extras which hugely added to the comfort of our stay. From robes and slippers to fresh milk in the fridge for our morning tea, they'd thought of everything. Their central location directly opposite Northallerton church was perfect and the secure parking behind the house enabled us to leave the car and forget it for 48 hours. Highly recommended.
