The Golden Lion Hotel

We love the location of this hotel. Central for everything. Just a wee walk out to the markets Wed and Sat. Has a restraunt, Bar, live music on a Sunday. The room was lovely the bed comfortable the service is great. I got what I requested. Nothing is too much trouble. The room and bathroom was clean. Plenty storage. Tea coffee and kettle to hand. Heater and fan for all weather's. Iron ironing board hairdryer wi fi. Sunday carvery is great plenty of choice. As does the normal menu. Forstvtime we booked breakfast and wasn't disappointed. We will be back AGAIN X

Bar staff need to keep eyes on all ends of Bar as have to keep trying to get their attention if at corner end. Could also do with a handle on the wall above the fire extinguisher on the 2 steps and opposite on the first level for those with walking difficulties. Other than that. Love the place ❤️

Breakfast and location great. Fantastic menu and all food top quality, great chef. Really cheerful and bubbly receptionist nothing too much trouble. Our boys kept locking themselves out. Lovely waiter assisted us with our evening meal order, very observant. We will definitely come again, this is our second visit. Offered earplugs as market day next day, very considerate.

There was a loud group at breakfast and it would have been preferable if the various groups could have been seated apart. We did try to sit in another area but we were asked to sit in the area everyone else was in.

Center of the Northallerton town is perfect. Private car parking is great. Buffet style Breakfast was very plentiful and fantastic. £10 each per person seems steep but you can keep going back for more and more until you've had enough.

Hell of a lot of a maze of steep steps to get to your room. If you have mobility issues, this will be a major problem. We had a problem with our toilet system not filling up so we reported it at the reception. Got told it would be sorted whilst we were out that afternoon. On our return we found that it was the same, they lied ! Had to fill the system up on our own with glasses of water for the toilet to flush. Awful.

Great location in the centre of town, close to all the shops and restaurants. Good free parking on site is also included. Breakfast was excellent both quantity and quality. Room was warm and spacious.

The hotel has a lovely traditional feel n the best way. Staff were genuinely friendly and courteous, and seemed happy and positive in their work. The room was comfortable and well equipped and appointed and cosy. It is feels in no way like a soulless corporate hotel and that is such a relief and to its credit

Not much to complain about. One of the bedside lights didn't work - but I kept forgetting to tell them about it. The fruit salad at breakfast on my first morning was lovely; the fruit salad on my second morning was the remains of the same fruit salad gone a little brown and slightly fizzy. But I'm not grumbling overall, it was a lovely hotel and I'm grateful well-kept places like this still exist.

Food was excellent, staff were very good. Bar area, restaurant and courtyard was nice for drinks and meals. Location was very good with everything needed on the high street or nearby. Access to other towns and areas of interest was good,

The hotel was very dated in décor and could do with renovating. It was very clean but tired. The bathroom was disappointing in that the shower was old and not practical and the toilet was fitted into a corner that did not make it practical to use. We were first issued one room which we refused due to the high noise level, we complained and were instantly relocated to a room of our liking.

The staff are lovely. The rooms are comfortable and very clean. The menu is extensive, well cooked and reasonably priced. Breakfast isn't included in the room price but is very nice! The location is right on the high street with a large free car park at the back. This hotel has been in operation for centuries and I loved the feel of history about the place, only stayed one night wished it had been longer. Will definitely be back soon.

Decor is a bit dated in the rooms.

The stay as a whole was great. Check in and out was very easy. Staff were lovely. Free parking. Breakfast was tasty though I would've liked the price of the breakfast included in the price for the room instead of having to pay extra for it.

The street outside was being cleaned on the evening and the van with the pump in was right outside my window, which i know isn't the hotels fault but something should've been done sooner to get them to move the van as nothing was done until people started complaining and it was after 10pm before anything was done.

Lovely full English breakfast served in dining room. Tables were well spaced and service was excellent. Room delightful with decor in keeping with the age of the hotel. All areas were spotlessly clean with tables cleaned between customers. All staff were helpful, friendly and professional.

Could not work the cold tap on the shower mixer tap only noticed on morning of departure so could not report it until checking out.

The location and facilities at this hotel are excellent. The room was clean - very much a coaching inn feel. Our room was at the front of the hotel and ear plugs were provided but we didn't feel the need to use them. The restaurant was excellent - quality of food and hearty portion size, plus very friendly staff.

Breakfast was good and gentleman in charge very friendly and accommodating. Selection of food was good. Toasters are tooooooo slow - took ages to get a reasonable bit of toast - although to be fair the man did warn us to do our toast first(!). Other items and drink items apart from the cooked items a little limiting but overall very good.
