The White Lion Inn

Very friendly and welcoming. The room was fabulous and the bed comfortable. The staff were great and had a sense of humour. They had to, listening to my dad jokes about vegetables! The food choice was great and cooked magnificently. We ate breakfast on 2 of our 6 days and it was perfect, Plenty of free parking. The owners run a very good Inn. we wanted to return for 6 days next year but the rooms were booked for a wedding. Would certainly return!

We did not eat breakfast every day as we were working and left early. We were provided with a pack to take away each morning and the sandwiches were cheese every day. They need a bit more imagination.

This was a great little find for an impromptu stopover. I’m always a little unsure of booking rooms in pubs but this one did not disappoint. Although booking later on in the day, we were greeted warmly, shown to our room and able to have an evening meal which was delicious. The place was packed so obviously a popular choice for many people. The room had everything we needed, including a quality fan for the warmer nights. There was a lot of choice for a cooked breakfast (also done to personal preferences) which was freshly cooked and very tasty! All staff were very friendly and lovely to chat with.

The shower room ensuite decor was a little dated, compared to the beautifully decorated bedroom though it had a very decent electric shower! The age of the building means some creaky floorboards and bedroom doors slam shut (fire doors), which may not suit everyone.

Location was lovely, staff very friendly and helpful, room lovely can highly recommend The White Lion Inn.

Unfortunately had to be up early to judge at Rutland show, had to leave at 7am so did not get to have the breakfast but they did very kindly put some sandwich etc up for us to take with us would have be nice if you where given a choice of what was on the sandwich or even better if they could make an exception and put an early breakfast on even if it is just cereal/toast and coffee or tea it would have been appreciated. We are coming back next year so perhaps they could give it a thought.

The White Lion was the perfect English country pub for us to base ourselves for a weekend. Staff were helpful and friendly from the moment we arrived. Lovely food including two evening meals and substantial and tasty breakfast. Busy and lovely atmosphere, quiet at night.

I booked a twin room and a family room. Both rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable except the second bed in the family room was a ‘put you up’ rather than a proper bed. Fine for a child but not for an adult. Room 6 needs a blind in the bathroom. Otherwise everything was great.

Breakfast was delicious. The menus in general were superb, the vegan/vegi options were the best i have seen! The choice was a very pleasant surprise to the usual limited options that are offered.

The payment system is rather confusing. The money appears to have been taken prior to your visit but its sitting in a holding area and then the venue takes what appears to be another payment. The owners at the hotel were lovely in trying to explain this complicated system which is outwith their control but it did cause confusion with my colleagues and I. The rooms were very warm but a fan was available which helped.

Overall a very qualitative place to stay! The room was very comfortable and the restaurant and hotel have a very nice charm which gives a calm and cozy atmosphere. I do believe you must have plans for the day and that staying in the hotel all day would get boring quickly. Other than that, situated extremely well, both dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious ! A very nice place to stay! I would love to return!

The bathroom was a little outdated and not to the standard of the rest of the hotel in terms of comfort. Nothing wrong, but it could have been better!

Excellent breakfast, stunning location, bonus of a beautiful garden to sit in, relax, have a drink, eat a home cooked meal. The food was delicious. Very relaxed atmosphere. Had a key to self contained entrance to our room which meant we could come and go anytime without disturbing others. We took our dog with us as the pub is dog friendly, although he wasn't allowed in the restaurant, we could eat in the bar or in the garden with him. There was plenty of room in the bathroom to put up his sleeping kennel and shut the door so he was safe and secure.

Wish we could have stayed longer to get to explore the area even more. Plenty of places to walk their is even a working windmill nearby which you are able to climb up to the top, guided by the friendly owner of the mill.

The location was perfect - peaceful and quiet with beautiful gardens. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable, clean and well equipped. All the meals were delicious - especially the full English breakfast ! And we particularly enjoyed Chris' impromptu magic show on our last evening - we are all still laughing about it ! A lovely way to end our stay.

Noise from the fan outside in the mornings. Think we were above the kitchen. Wanted to see the windmill but unfortunately was closed when we went there on the Wednesday.

The location was on a quiet road but the pub was the centre of the area there always seemed to be something going on. Perhaps we were there at a busy period.

The room although comfortable was in the eaves of the old property and a bit hot and stuffy in the summer. There were very few sockets to charge your phone etc and had I known I’d have taken an adapter.
