An excellent quiet location, yet just a few miles from the A1 so ideal for our overnight stop. Plenty of car parking and a lovely quiet room overlooking the courtyard. Our evening meal was very tasty and well presented, the staff were welcoming and friendly. We would definitely stay here again as Rutland is a good central location.

The staff were incredibly welcoming and couldn’t have been more helpful. The family room was exactly like the photos on the website. The kids loved the grounds - there was a small swing / play frame, a kitchen garden and chickens and a croquet set on the lawn. When I arrived back late with grass-stained kids in need of a quick tea (rather than the restaurant menu), the staff were amazing and ensured we were looked after. The little touches made the stay extra-special - a complimentary glass of wine on arrival, a free book for the kids to take home and a King’s Ginger night cap for the adults. We wished we could have stayed longer but were only there for a night.

Cosy, atmospheric, pleasant lounge areas. Conservatory is rather special with a second lounge area and eating space. Breakfast was excellent. My wife ordered smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Avoid! You do not get cured smoked salmon but cooked salmon. The corridor leading to our bedroom was battered and really tired. Our bedroom (34) has a fantastic view of the farmland. Nice room. Tired bathroom. Tea coffee and biscuits. Toiletries okay.

I have never liked the ample car parking due to the dreadful surface of soil, chippings and god knows what else. This mess ends up on your shoes and carpets in your car!

Barnsdale Lodge was a great location as we were visiting Barnsdale Gardens for afternoon tea etc. Our plan the next day was to walk across the dam and more at Rutland Water. A visit into Oakham and Melton Mowbray. So a super location. Our room over looked the Courtyard and was clean and well stocked with tea/coffee/biscuits etc. Staff were helpful and friendly all around. Breakfast had a good choice and set you up for the day.

The one thing that didn’t work for us was the evening menu, there was just nothing for us but we knew this before we arrived. There are plenty of places a short drive away but as we were out during the day we found somewhere.

Very very comfortable stay. The place is set in a lovely location. The staff were very friendly, they gave a glass of complimentary wine on entry. The room was very spacious, with a comfortable bed, and a hair dryer and iron per room.

The food service is the only thing I can complain about. Although we didn’t eat main meals there, they don’t serve hot food of any type in between main meal times. We asked for chips at 4pm, which unfortunately they could not give. However, other than this, there were very little issues with the property.

Lovely spacious comfortable room and very comfy bed. Good breakfast choice and quality to match, Delicious food on the dinner menu over all 3 courses, beautifully cooked and presented with good wine to match. The outside pathway will be lovely once the area is fully planted and established.

Another flat surface for our own items, e.g. computer would have been useful in our room. The narrow selection of teas was disappointing - no fruit/mint/ camomile options. Nowhere beside kettle to put wet spoon etc - it's a small thing, but making a cuppa just hadn't been thought through! I had to go looking for the waitress on our second morning to get a coffee 🙁. Everything is in place for Barnsdale being an excellent hotel, just not quite there yet.

From the time we arrived, the staff were warm and friendly, making us feel valued and welcome. From the complimentary glasses of wine on arrival, hand written personalised note left welcoming us placed in the room, to the gin liquer samplers on the tray.Their service was outstanding, and they were keen to help with anything throughout our stay. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was lovely, although we would have benefitted by having 2 chairs in the room for the two of us, not one. A lovely shower with excellent water pressure and temperature. Lovely breakfast with plenty of choice was provided. The hotel has been beautifully decorated inside but still maintains a lovely, warm, cosy feel to it. The courtyard was very pretty, and we had a fantastic view from our window overlooking the beautiful countryside.

There was only one chair in the bedroom, so one of us had to sit on the bed all the time. There was no hairdryer provided, but luckily enough, I had brought my own

Breakfast was delicious, service first class and included in the room tariff Dinner on our anniversary was superb. We were joined by two friends. Comfortable bed Lovely views

There was no safe in the room. Bar snacks were not available in the evening. We had to go into Oakham where we found a lovely pub and were made very welcome. We would have preferred a walk-in shower. The towel rail was unheated. The room was uncomfortably cold. Reception were unable to help despite promising to do so. Eventually, I managed to track down the heater switch, hidden a cupboard.

Location and building were lovely, great breakfast with a continental buffet and full English. Reception staff were lovely, bar staff not so much. Location was great and easy to find.

Found the finish of the room (43) to be below par...Black duct tape holding the shower head together, obvious issues with the bathroom floor, sealant around sink looked like a child had done it. The bedroom was pretty but the bed very uncomfortable, left with a back ache after a two night stay. And would have expected a smart TV in the room.

Beautiful place with excellent staff. I loved the fresh milk for the in-room coffee, which was also of exceptional quality.

Booking dot com allowed us to book a room for four adults, but the room we booked was intended for two adults and two children. The lack of options on Booking dot com meant that neither I nor the hotel could cancel, and so we needed to pay at a reduced rate for an additional room. The hotel was helpful, but it once again shows that Booking dot com has limited interest in the needs of the people it makes money from.
