The Old Manse Pickering

A very lovely lady who runs the place , and all the young girls and lady cleaners were very happy in there work and made us feel very welcome even when we got in their way . The rooms were spotless and linen fresh and smelt lovely , clean towels and face clothes everyday, great views from our back room windows. Smashing cooked breakfast in the morning with as much tea and coffee you could drink. Some great pubs in the town , Try the Bay Horse Inn, great beer and cider lovely people in their.Try the White Swan Inn up the hill, Black Swan turned us away for food because we were not staying with them, there loss, spent over 2 hundred quid in the White Swan Inn, great night lovely food.

I really cannot think of anything that was wrong with our stay and I would highly recommend THE OLD MANSE it was fab, we will be going back there next year when we get the dates for Bangers And Cash event at Scampton Hall in 2024. And a big thanks to everyone at the Bangers and Cash event especially the Mathewson family who made our trip to this beautiful part of the world so memorable, North Yorks we love you, and see you soon. Parking was really handy and it was in a quiet area only 5 minute walk from the train station and lovely Pickering town. Breakfast was tasty, and they offered a good choice. Lovely view of the garden and birds during breakfast time. Bed was big and facilities in room were good - drinks, wash products etc. Bathroom was very clean. Staff were friendly.

Our welcome felt a bit rushed when we arrived, and we didn't know the policy on finding staff if needed. There were some cobwebs in the room and a strange smell in one corner. Heating was on right through the night (in summer), and there was no way to turn off the radiator, which made our sleep quite uncomfortable, even with fan on and window open.

A fabulous place to stay in Pickering. My room was extremely comfortable with good facilities and bathroom. Luxurious linen and large towels with daily servicing of the room. The hostess couldn't be more friendly or hospitable, welcoming you as you arrive with a lovely pot of tea and biscuits and providing you with a cool drink when you return after a long hot day of sightseeing. Nothing is too much trouble for her as she takes great care of her guests. The back garden is a lovely restful and pretty retreat in the afternoon/early evening. The off-street parking situated inn the house grounds is a real bonus and I was also able to leave my car there after I checked out while I went to visit Pickering Castle. Breakfast is a real treat with lots of yummy options and a scrumptious cooked to order hot meal.

Well, what can we say ? From the moment we arrived at the characterful property we were treated to the warmest of welcomes along with tea and biscuits from the lovely Valerie in the conservatory that overlooks the garden. Nothing was too much trouble during our stay and a big fuss was made over our four-legged friend too. A comfortable bed, great TV facilities and a piping hot shower in a room with all that we needed. 'Exceptional breakfast' is a oft-used phrase on this website, but this truly was - and I'm a chef so not easily pleased....! Fresh brewed coffee, good juice and local smoked haddock was my choice...Parking was good too, behind secure gates and in a very quiet area of town. Our next decision on where to stay has been made easy. We will be back to The Old Manse.

Having to leave...

beautifully located and decorated in line with the property period. everything you could need and felt reassuring to know we only had to ask if we needed anything and the owner would do her best to sort it

I found my mattress uncomfortable and too firm but my partner didn’t. there didn’t appear to be an alternative mattress when I mentioned this. there was a lot of hair in the shower filter causing a partial blockage which was promptly removed after mentioning to the owner and we were kindly given a complimentary bottle of wine along with an apology

It was spotlessly clean, comfortable and stylish. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The breakfast was excellent. They also very kindly posted something back to me that I had left behind.

The water pressure in the shower in my room was incredibly low. My room was at the top of the house. At one point, when others were showering in other their rooms, I couldn’t even get hot water in my shower. I could hear a bit more noise than was ideal from the room next door to mine on the second night.

Everything. Valerie, the host, welcomes you with a drink on arrival. The room was comfortable & better equipped than some hotels at twice the price. Breakfast is cooked to order & you wont be hungry afterwards. Quiet location with sufficient off road parking. Ten minutes walk to NYMR steam railway station & town centre,. 15 minutes drive to Matthewsons at Thornton le Dale, 30 minutes to Castle Howard. Our second stay here & go to place for future visits.

Easy to find location with about a 5 min walk into the centre of Pickering Good choice if you are taking a trip on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway Comfortable room - shower took a while to get hot but was fine once up to temperature Good breakfast cooked to order Very pleasant and accommodating staff Good size private car park

Everything was fine - slight mix up with the room booking on arrival, however this was sorted quickly and was not a problem and I would stay here again

Breakfast was gargantuan - every type of food (English Breakfast), cereals, fruit and fruit juices, coffee and tea (again different teas of all descriptions) were provided in vast proportions - set you up for the full day! We also took a three course dinner on our first evening and again absolutely unable to criticise the quality. Valerie, the owner, was also the chef and she provided good wholesome Yorkshire fare with typical huge portions - no-one goes hungry!

The water in the bathroom was only lukewarm at times but this did not mar our experience.

Booked this hotel for an unexpected night away and it did not disappoint. Quiet, cosy, comfortable. Amazing breakfast tasty, fresh and hot. Loads of choice on breakfast menu. Lovely staff. Very clean. Short walk to town and parking onsite. Highly recommended. Often in hotels there is no good light or socket near the mirror/dressing table. Our room had both, which was great! Very comfy bed, spacious room with great view. Lots of complementary refreshments, so often there is not enough milk and they also offer fresh milk on request. Lush smelling bathroom products too. Just lovely 🙂
