The White Swan Inn

When we were shown to our room, we were disappointed, as it was quite cramped and very dark. This wasn't helped by the atrocious weather that day, but even with all the lights on it was inadequately lit. We asked for another room and Caitlin went out of her way to offer us an alternative. The second room was superb. Plenty of natural light and very well lit when we had the curtains closed. It was still very quiet despite overlooking the main road and over the access to the car park. The bed was large and extremely comfortable. A nice seating area and fresh milk in a mini fridge for tea and coffee. Decent sized bathroom with shower over the bath. The Alternative A-Z is a must read and made us chuckle! Thank you!

The very slight criticism is of the shower in that room. It was a lovely, powerful rainwater shower head, but from a female perspective, a little awkward when trying to keep your hair dry while showering. A double shower head would have made it perfect. Nothing that spoilt our stay and we would definitely come back

was not a £200 a night hotel, the room was tired (cracked and broken tiles in the bathroom, floor tiles rocked etc) was really hot in room, toiletries supplied more appropriate for a budget hotel, no facilities apart from room, no decaffeinated options in room, could go on. Is worth £100-£120 a night and then would be amazing

Welcoming and helpful staff. Very comfortable, spacious, tasteful room in separate building in the Courtyard, across from main building, with adjacent, easy parking. Very dog friendly. Dog bed, biscuits, bowl were provided in our room on arrival, lovely touch to make us all feel welcome. Tasty Dinner & Breakfast in the cosy Snug, with Rory our Collie allowed too. Great location, in the centre of Pickering, making it easy to enjoy & explore the whole town. Thank you, all at The White Swan.

Booked to celebrate our anniversary but ended up celebrating getting engaged too! The staff could not have been more lovely or attentive, particularly the evening and bar staff, who even went to the effort of writing congratulations on our dessert plate. Our bothy room was comfortable, spacious, and well-equipped. We ate in the restaurant, and had a lovely relaxing meal. We had drinks in the bar a few times, and we also enjoyed the sunshine on the terrace. The hotel is ideally placed in terms of location, and it was so peaceful and quiet, couldn’t have asked for more. We enjoyed our stay so much, and will most certainly be back.

Everything about our stay was great, we needed a central location, dog friendly hotel for a relaxing break. We stayed in the stable block on the ground floor, the room was immaculate and very authentically decorated with stone flooring and quality accessories. Loved the tea tray, the lovely welcome pack for our puppy, the huge bath and shower, quality toiletries - the room was perfect. The food was amazing. The personal touches were great, definitely need to read the hotel's room information pack. it's hilarious!. We are definitely going to visit again.

Spacious, well thought out and executed design that worked. Excellent bathroom with bath and very good shower. Exceptionally convenient parking beside our room, wifi speed is unusually high (why isn’t everywhere like this?)

Nothing about the property. However, we stayed for three nights and had dinner on each of the three evenings when we were surprised, particularly at this price point, that changes to the menu were difficult to discern. The menu was very ‘meat heavy’ although we’re not vegetarian. We would expect substantial change to the menu each evening. At breakfast, there was home made black pudding on offer. Honestly, it’s not worth the chef’s bother as it was poor and I can recommend a supplier from Stornoway on the island of Lewis in the outer Hebrides who distributes a superb product throughout Scotland at least . . . .

I stayed here in September 2020 and it was nice to come back to a fully open and bustling Pickering. I had a different room this time - 15 - a smart, quiet and comfortable room in the converted stables block. The White Swan Inn is a 16th century former coaching inn and retains the style and character with all the modern conveniences. Although the car park entrance is narrow the car park itself is big with lots of shady parking (keeping the car cool). As an added bonus, the staff are all incredibly friendly & welcoming. I stayed 2-nights, using Pickering as a base to take a ride on the NYMR heritage line, visit the castle, the church of St Peter & Paul with its medieval wall paintings and the excellent Beck Isle Museum, which was closed when I came in 2020 (understandably). The location in the heart of the town is perfect for exploring on foot. Pickering might not be very big but there's a surprising amount to see and do and the White Swan Inn is an ideal base.

The WiFi could be better - but that's pretty trivial, really...
