Fantastic view of the bay and Chesil beach from our room - and from the breakfast dining room too. Helpful staff. We arrived later than expected for check-in (like, after 10:30pm) and called ahead - were told we could check in any time courtesy of the night porter. When we arrived, he had been watching out for us and let us in immediately. On our last day, breakfast finished an hour earlier - this was stated but we hadn't noticed. Staff in the breakfast room called us to warn us, then made sure we had everything we wanted before they closed any facilities. My partner's pillows weren't very comfortable, they were changed on the spot when she asked a maid for something softer. Good sized rooms, bathroom was fine, tv and all such facilities working no problem. Breakfast buffet was fine - help yourself to your own cooked breakfast or go for porridge, croissants, fruit; we didn't really use the bar or the evening restaurant so can't comment on those.

Our double bed was two singles pushed together, and one of them was firmer than the other. That's not ideal. And there was the aforementioned uncomfortable pillow. So I guess the bedding has room for improvement, but still we got good sleeps.

This hotel was very clean with comfortable, large beds. The staff were very helpful and friendly, especially the ladies on duty at breakfast time. The view is fabulous and the breakfast buffet was really good with lots of options and decent tea & coffee!

The lighting in our room was very minimal, with one (not particularly bright) ceiling light in the bathroom and another in the bedroom, neither close to the mirrors. There were “reading lights” next to the bed but these were completely ineffective. It gave the room a bit of an unwelcoming feel. The cafe and bar closed relatively early which was a shame as when the 8 of us returned from our evenings out but still wanted to socialise, our only option was to squeeze round a table in the lobby.

The staff are wonderful, especially Belinda, very friendly people. The food was beautiful, we had breakfast and dinner. That porridge was gorgeous. The vegetarian options sounded a bit boring on paper but tasted amazing. The views from the restaurant are second to none, especially at sunset. The hotel itself looks a bit dated but we had the best night's sleep for months there, and who cares if the dressing table etc is a bit old fashioned, who goes on holiday for a good dressing table?! We will be back and it seems after our recommendation the in-laws will be visiting you in the next year or so!

No improvement needed!

Outstanding location and view Breakfast is lovely Friendly helpful staff Room size great Clean

We have a strange love for this hotel, 3rd time stay this year already, lovely and cosy feel but reality is it needs a refresh, it's tired and in need of some modernisation to level it up to today's standards of hotel it aspires to be. Evening bistro was disappointing, great intent and aspiration but for the price, the food slightly missed the mark in terms of quality of taste. Won't stop us staying again though, we are very fond of the place

Huge, comfy bed! Plenty of parking spaces. Wifi in all areas. Ample, tasty breakfast. Very helpful, friendly staff. The most wonderful view from the restaurant or the front of the hotel, looking down on to Chesil Beach etc. Beautiful sunsets! Right next to former stone quarries, now nature reserves, full of butterflies and sculptures.

Lighting in our room was dingy, depressing in the evening. The side lights above the beds were a joke and did not make the slightest bit of difference. No shops in walking distance, needs a car.

Portland is one of my favourite spots to visit, I go there at least once a year. The Heights Hotel is a great location to explore it. The staff are great, hotel is really nice. Food is high quality.

Please bring back the gym! I would always make use of it in my pre-Covid visits and was disappointed to find it did not survive lockdown... especially as local trainers made use of it to support their business. The new cafe downstairs is great, but please don't close the upstairs gallery to guests through the day. That viewing deck is one of the main draws of the hotel, so let guests go up to enjoy it with a book and a drink. I asked staff, who kindly did let me up... but many guests may not feel comfortable asking.

Cooked breakfast was fresh and delicious.. the breakfast staff were brilliant, on the last day we were late but the staff still fixed us something to eat. They went above and beyond!

We went to dinner on the first night.. the noodle dish my wife ordered was far too salty. I had fish and chips, the battered fish was soggy, slimy and small. The meal on the whole was far too expensive for what we got in terms of quality and quantity. I told the staff, no apology was given only excuses.

The view was superb. Not stayed before, but have used the cafe previously, hence aware of hotel's good location.. Breakfast and cafe food was good. Room size also. Staff friendly with good local knowledge.

The room could have been a little warmer for our taste. The Shower temperature control was not working. When raised, immediate action promised yet nothing happened. That evening on return to room, the Assistant Manager tried hard - credit where credit due. Only stayed another day so not worth moving rooms etc. Disappointing as cafe/bistro staff were very accomodating. Thank you to them!

Breakfast was very nice and plentiful - the bed was also very large and comfortable. The facilities were well-stocked and the room was clean. I'd definitely come back - and not only for the lovely view over my cooked breakfast.

The hotel was a tad too warm all the time, it was comfortable in summer clothes but when travelling in January most of your clothes are for the cold weather. However, I do understand most of the regular clientele are older than me, so it's not catered to my age group (20-30). But nevertheless, it was warm.

The staff were very friendly, the room was clean and the bed was so comfortable. The view from the cafe was brilliant too!

It's a shame that dinner isn't included in your stay, and that the mains for dinner are rather expensive (£25 per main). We felt this was too expensive so was opted to eat out every day we were there which resulted in a much better value for money. Other than that no issues with the hotel at all
