Coastal path with stunning views over the Jurassic coast within 1 minute's walk of the hotel. Perfect for taking in sunsets with a gentle walk down to Portland Bill lighthouse. Rooftop terrace was a lovely bonus for those days I didn't fancy the walk and rather a drink whilst taking in the views after a lot of walking in the day. Staff were welcoming, friendly, and helpful.

The hotel appears to be undergoing some renovations. Whilst there was no disruption to my stay (i.e. no building sounds could be heard when in my room) parts of the building's exterior were a bit of an eyesore. If you are hoping for a scenic view from your room, ensure that you are being allocated a sea view room, otherwise you will be disappointed. However, in Dorset, there's so much to see when you're out and about that a sea view room is not necessary in my opinion. Note, the pros of the place certainly far outweighed the cons.

Made very welcome , lovely friendly staff , room spacious and clean . Bed comfortable . We travelled with our dog and she was made welcome ,there are designated dog tables in the restaurant area which are clearly visible by a label. We had bed and breakfast for 4 nights , breakfast was good . We had a meal one night which was cheeseburger and chips and the burger was delicious. Alcoholic drinks are very reasonably priced. All staff were extremely approachable and cared about what they did. The roof terrace is lovely and on a clear day you can truly see forever , such a beautiful coastal view. Parking is safe and plentiful . There is a very good bus service and the nearest bus stop is an easy ten minute walk and on the bus you get a stunning view of chesil beach. People visit Portland for its rugged beauty , it’s outdoor life (sailing , windsurfing, paddle boarding ) at the harbour plentiful walks etc . There is lots to do in the area .

Ok people are going to comment on the outside of the hotel which is a former ministry of defence building cold and block concrete in appearance and you can’t change that . What you can change is your outlook and appreciate the history of the place and the people who worked there defending our shores , walk through the doors to a modern interior , hard working staff and owners. You can’t change a beginning but you can certainly change an ending .

We had a great stay at the New Admiralty Hotel. We love Portland for it's rugged, scenic beauty and for it being quieter than the surrounding areas of Weymouth and Lyme Regis. You are still close enough to enjoy them though and the regular buses from Portland to Weymouth are a bonus as you can leave the car, or motorbike in our case and enjoy a drink without driving and having to negotiate the traffic. All the staff at the hotel were very friendly, efficient and helpful and there is a good atmosphere. The bar/restaurant has a lovely view of the coast line and sea which is good for enjoying a meal or drink as the evening draws in. There is a good selection of food and the steaks were good and reasonably priced. Breakfast was great with a good selection of foods to choose from and also we liked the times it was available, 7am until 09.30 for cooked, until 10.00m for continental which allowed for an early start or for having a lie-in. The hotel is in a great location for coastal path walks too. There was entertainment on in the hotel which we hadn't been aware of at the time of booking so that was a big bonus for us who like live music. Leanne Jackson aka Lady Gaga was great with such a wide repertoire of songs and excellent singing voice.

We had one meal there which was disappointing but that is a minor complaint, staff were busier than expected I think and other meals were fine.

This hotel is in a great location, all of the staff were lovely and very helpful...with special thanks to Jessica and Martin for making sure we had everything we needed. The food was also very good, the breakfast was lovely and there was plenty to choose from & our evening meals were also first rate. We would definitely stay again.

Initially we had a room overlooking the inner courtyard , which isn't the prettiest of views...as we were staying the entire week we asked about a change of room, Jessica & Martin were very helpful and we were able to upgrade to a lovely room with a sea view ( definitely worth doing) if you are staying for any length of time

The room was a good size and the bed large and comfortable the view was great, The roof terrace was a lovely place to enjoy an a drink and appreciate the views. The staff were helpful and friendly. Parking was easy The food was good- the portions large

A lot of thought and consideration taken on the decor however our room had stains on the carpet. The hotel is dog friendly and the stains looked as if a dog had urinated on the carpet. This is not the hotels fault as the customer is responsible and once an animal urinates it ruins the carpet if not dealt with properly. It did not ruin our visit however it did devalue the room

Lots to like. Huge well equipped room. Super clean. Super comfy bed. Great staff. Nice breakfast. Nice view from the restaurant. Great roof terrace. Great location. Loads of parking spaces

Monstrous looking concrete exterior with a depressing view over the very grey car park (very military, obviously) When I arrived I wondered if I’d made a huge mistake. However, this didn’t bother me in the end at all because the interior was nice and all the positives far outweighed the external appearance. Some folk have said the car park was a long way from the reception etc but there was a little back door leading onto the car park right by the lift/stairs so I didn’t have that issue. The view from the roof terrace was great too.

I loved the location and sea view to the lighthouse. The room was very clean and beds were comfortable. There was a nice terrace area on the roof that could be developed into a nicer area. I believe that is the plan. The restaurant had great views. My husband enjoyed his cooked breakfast and steak dinner the night before. Reception area is very nice and the staff are very kind and friendly.

The shower wasn't great. I wasn't impressed with what was left at breakfast when we went down at 9.15. Hardly any fruit left. Only 2 yogurts. The butter packs were all melted and looked horrible. No healthy cereal except weetabix. I'd have liked a nice granola. I didn't really enjoy the evening meal. I know it is a steakhouse but I'd have preferred a healthier option to all the chips and fried stuff. The service was very slow for the evening meal. We waited 15 minutes just to get our drinks. They did apologise. The staff were having a meeting in the restaurant area when we were having breakfast. I felt a bit invisible as a guest. And I'm not keen on having a dog in the restaurant area.

The location is excellent with sea views in all directions. A lovely roof top terrace with great views. Property is being refurbished currently and is very clean and smart inside which is a welcome difference to the exterior view. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. There was an event going on which meant they served breakfast in the room and it was a good breakfast and hot, well done, but meant we couldn’t eat breakfast together as a group of friends.

The menu is a bit limited currently, though good range of steaks, would have liked a bit more seafood choices being on the coast.

Staff amazing 👏 and restaurant and loved views on terrace comfortable bed as we was tired

For price of stay 125 per night small cups so small in room dirty stained carpet and mattress covers stained also.once stripped bed and realized but as we was so tired. We didn't have view from room but of skips that occasionally got disturbing sounds of people throwing in to skips and others using not placing in but throwing. Dripped paint on bathroom floors in bathroom by door dried and mix matched unfinished bathroom door

The room was excellent, the view, superb. The staff were very welcoming and eager to accommodate us if we had questions or requests. They advised us on things to do in the area, which was appreciated and very useful.

The bed next to the wall needed replacing as it was extremely soft and a dip in the middle. Glasses need to be supplied in the rooms, along with more than 1 teabag A carafe of water needed to be added to each table at dinner. A muesli or porridge could be added for those who don’t usually eat sugary cereals, at breakfast.
