Lovely family suite......two double bedrooms and a bathroom with a little hallway separating the rooms. Clean and comfortable. Food in the pub downstairs was excellent. Staff clearly happy in their jobs. Beautiful garden to sit in. Convenient location for many places such as Bath and West showground, Haynes Motor Museum, Wells, Bath. Host Maxine went above and beyond to look after us. We will be going back.

This comment isn't 'we didn't like', it is for other travellers to be aware of..... accomodation is upstairs and the stairs are a bit steep and there is a curve in the staircase. This is a coaching inn......clue in the word coaching....it is on a main road. We could hear the traffic in the garden, but not in our rooms with the windows closed. With the window open you could hear the traffic, but it didn't really bother us.

good location off A37.. easy access to wells, bath and Bristol. only there 2 days so didn’t have much time to venture too far. rooms nice with lots of little quirky bits and pieces. food was good and very reasonably priced. breakfast was good too. landlady/owner was very welcoming and attentive. as was the parrot! nice little snug bar for a little night cap before heading up to bed.

couple we were staying with had a couple of minor issues with their room that were quickly resolved. our room was at the front so we did have lights and noise from cars wake us up earlier than we’d hoped but as we’re from London we’re used to that..

The Old Down Inn is an old staging/posting inn, and therefore, not unexpectedly, right on the road. So, it has plenty of character, and the choice of food if eating there is excellent and very well priced. Breakfast was exceptional - we have stayed at a number of b&bs and this was one of the tastiest we have had.

The down side to being an old staging adjacent the road, is traffic noise if you are not used to that (and we're not), so if you have a room at the front, you are going to be exposed to this. Heads-up! But for one night, it's a very good location to many attractions.

The family room was perfect for wife and 2 older kids. The breakfast menu was excellent and the food was amazing, very generous portions and very nicely cooked. All the staff were very helpful and attentive and couldn't do enough for us. Honestly, it couldn't have been better. Brilliant 'stop off' to break up a longer journey or if you want to visit Bath and are happy driving into the centre and/or don't want to stay right in the centre.

It's a little way out of the centre of Bath if you're not driving but that's it. There's nothing not to like about it imo.

WOW - what a find. Amazing little place, a welcome as soon as you step in the front door. Absolutely nothing too much trouble for owner Maxine. Wonderful breakfast choice we tried a different one each day, hard to select a favourite. Rooms were tastefully decorated I loved the wildlife themes to each room. This place has such a homely feel it was like staying with a friend. Beautiful colourful outside garden with Maxine’s personal touches.

all the staff were so friendly and welcoming. The room was lovely and clean- very spacious and nicely decorated. beds were very comfy. food was amazing we had a delicious evening meal and fabulous breakfast. thoughtful extras like shampoo and bottle of water and hair dryer.

unfortunately our room was at the front of the hotel and the traffic noise started at 6am and was loud so we couldnt get back to sleep. also blind at the window was made of cotton and let in all the light- a black out blind would be better.

The Breakfast was among the best we have enjoyed. Very well cooked with obvious local quality suppliers, well presented and thoroughly enjoyable. The inn has an extremely long history and the current owner has only added quality and service to that. The decor and fabric of the building has been kept rather than 'modernised' which helps maintain the atmosphere of its ancestry. As far as location is concerned we found it very simple and easy when travelling from Bath.

Not a major issue but the room could benefit from a larger double bed.

Comfortable, historic coaching Inn. Friendly staff, great food and proprietress on site and engaging with guests.

No info on lack of staff and locked front door for checking in, until late in the afternoon. Traffic noise a problem in my room, at the front of the building. Maybe double glazing needed? Eclectic selection of owner's nick nacks in all areas. However, on balance, preferred to faceless, minimal decor. Public areas carpets very tired. However, the bar and restaurant are very popular with locals, which is good to see.

My second stay and I'll be back again. Very friendly place, both staff (who are wonderful) and the patrons. Great for single travellers as others actually engage in conversation and you don't feel like an outcast. Comfortable rooms. Breakfast is great, evening meals are great too. Really good range of drinks to suit all tastes.

Nothing that can be done as it's an old building, but the traffic noise can be loud if you're a lighter sleeper. Comfy beds offset it though!
