We can't fault the staff particularly, we stayed 3 days (after a major car breakdown), at every turn, the staff were helpful, friendly, engaging, more than I could have asked for. From the outside, I wasn't sure I had booked the right place, but when we got in, it was friendly, room was spacious, well kept and above all clean. I have added a picture of one of our breakfasts, great food too! Thanks to all the staff, you made a very hard day, relaxing at it's end.

Because of it's rural setting, walking into the town was a little complicated because of there being no pavements.

The ambience was absolutely fabulous, the food presented was really tasty and value for money, the portions were great a really wholesome. Facilities in the highwayman were good, presented really well. Car parking was good and a good point to explore more of Somerset. A very enjoyable stay with friendly staff . The beds were comfortable. I will look forward to revisiting this hotel to see how things have progressed. Overall a nice place to stay.

We had a twin room the room itself was nice although definitely tired, cleanliness was ok although a little more attention to detail in room presentation would have made it more enjoyable. Although it was by a main trunk road, traffic noise was a factor till around 11pm and noise from the pub was also a factor but again everything settled at around 11pm. The lack of a breakfast on a morning was ok although maybe this will be considered at a later date to be offered.

The staff were very helpful. The breakfast was excellent and the beds comfortable. Fans were provided to help with the extreme heat we experienced. Two of our party were late cancellations after testing positive for Covid and the management very kindly refunded the room charges.

We were there in a heatwave and despite fans the rooms were hot. Opening the windows helped but the pub is on a main road and it was noisy. It was further from the town of Shepton Mallet than we had anticipated but we had cars so could get to restaurants in the evening as the pub menu was very standard pub grub (although it looked good) and we wanted more options.

Room was great all features advertised worked well. warm welcoming atmosphere inside the pub and great food choice. Food ordered was cooked to exceedingly high standards. staff were friendly and polite. no problems in any part of the journey.

shower should have been tested before room was released as hose had split but this did not affect the pressure or use (Just a bit leaky) breakfast offering would have been nice but unsure if they offering this at present.

Our room was excellent with a view to the hills and although overlooking a main road was very quiet due to the functional double glazing. The hotel is full of character with a comfortable bar area, friendly, efficient staff and a great English breakfast. On the night we were staying there was unfortunately no food available that evening but the landlord kindly suggested that the pub nearby might do food or we could get some delivered in. Large car park. We would definitely stay at the Highwayman again.

A real traditional inn, very much in style. Very courteous and helpful staff.

A little thing: traditional English means that the wash basin has a separate hot and cold tap. There was a faucet with the washtub, though, but separate knobs, so if you close them to use the soap it does not remember the mix a handle operated faucet would. But overall, the bathroom was quite OK.

Chris is the new proprietor (only took over 2 weeks before our stay) at this inn and he and his staff have done a marvellous job in making this a welcoming, friendly and very comfortable refuge for a nice few days break in Somerset. My mother is disabled and the room we had was excellent for her needs, including a wet room shower. (Very helpful). It is in a perfect location for exploring North Somerset and has a huge car park. The weekly housekeeping girls went out of their way to make our room comfortable and help me with my mother and even loading the car! I highly recommend this inn and will definitely return in the future to see how much more hard work Chris has put in. Thanks for a lovely stay.

This isn’t a dislike it was just unfortunate that despite everyone’s efforts to get the kitchen up to standards, Chris has yet to find a suitable Chef and therefore evening meals were not available at the moment and we had to eat elsewhere

The owner/cook was super friendly and could not do enough to help. A real people person who did a great full-English.

The bed was pretty poor and the furnishings are sooo tired, but apart from the decor, everyone there are lovely and do their very best to please. I was travelling to the Bath & West for a fair, so the luxury (or lack of it), was neither here nor there, so all in all it did the job. To sum up: clean and cheerful, good breakfast but don’t go for comfort and ambience.

Lovely clean rooms, clean bathroom. Very comfy and clean bed. Great location easy to find the hotel and linked to a pub which means we could have a drink downstairs. We only stayed one night but will be back again. Great priced rooms.

No breakfast served but this was fine we made other arrangements.

Great value and huge car park. Staff were helpful. Room was spacious and comfortable. Very warm and cosy. Good sized shower. Food in the pub was typical pub food but good menu and very good value. Pub had a friendly atmosphere. I am a female travelling on my own for work and felt safe (very important)
