Excellent breakfast included; excellent location. The lovely, friendly ladies took very good care of me in the restaurant each day at breakfast. 😋 Great food; new excellent chef; main menu changed the day before I left and steak tartare, lamb rack, other new dishes added were more like fine dining than pub food.

Noisy (which I didn't mind too much) especially on Market Day on Wednesday as the workers set up at 6:00 am and Thursday morning when the street sweeper cleaned up from the market at 6:00 am. My room was directly above the pub so I could hear music and talking until late. I was offered ear plugs but declined. 😊

The location could not be any better for the centre of Wells. The pub is exactly what is described, but better. The food was great, including the varied breakfast menu, cooked to order. The bar and evening menu was really good too. The staff were really friendly and helpful, especially the two ladies at breakfast! The car park is as described, small and a first come first serve basis. We were lucky enough to grab a space and keep hold of it. On our trips out we used the local buses which were great. Our room had all we needed, it was spacious and comfortable. Remembering the hotel is so old, it was really good and I would definitely stay here again.

Not much at all. If you want me to complain about the weather or the lack of Oat milk in one of the cafe's then this isn't the place to do it.

Breakfast was very good. Plenty of options, good service. Nice clean open spaces and atmospheric. I especially liked having a bedroom with a front view over the Market Square and being right at the centre of a historic city. The staff were welcoming and approachable when information was sought. I quickly felt at home, coming and going throughout my 3 day stay. The en suite bathroom was very good. This is a great place to stay for easy walking or cycling access to the city attractions, shops and amenities. I don't drive anymore but if I did I think finding done where to park would be a problem. Bus services between Wells and Bath or Bristol are good. Ticket cost £2.00 in June 2023 which was marvellous! I look forward to having the opportunity to returning sometime.

It took me a quite a while to work out how to operate the shower system. Very modern showers but instruction leaflet in room would have been helpful. The floorboards were very creaky and general sound insulation between rooms and floors was not so good. Self-closing fire door on 1st level was quite hard to open but I quickly got used to it and appreciate it's a vital feature.

the location was already known to me and it is very central and convenient. There are nice views from many of the rooms although obviously if you are staying at the front of the hotel the night before market day you can expect an "early wake up call" as they set up. The rooms are all different as it's a very old building, but all attractive, comfortable and well kitted out. There's a local bar open during licensing hours and used by locals, plus a bistro serving meals as well as breakfast in the morning. There's only space for max half a dozen cars, so ask the staff for the best place to leave your car.

The location is fantastic. It's a beautiful old inn right in the heart of things. There is parking but it is limited to a first come basis. We were too early to check in but they let us park there. You need to be aware that this is round the back of the hotel and you need to drive down a road that has a sign saying Access Only. Our room overlooked the square and the cathedral. It was magical.

Be aware that it is noisy. This isn't the hotel's fault. It is, after all, right in the middle of a tourist spot. We like to sleep with our windows open. I couldn't understand why so many people were talking outside, so early on a Saturday morning. When I looked outside, there was a massive market! I was still pleased that we had that room, though.

Everything was excellent! The rooms were lovely and comfortable, Very clean and well turned out! We had some meals in the bar the evening we stayed and the food is outstanding! And breakfast in the morning was delicious! All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful! Nothing was too much trouble! We want to give a special mention to the bar manager Trina (hope i spelt that right) who took the time even after her shift had finished to come and have a chat, to see if everything was okay and that we were having a enjoyable time, telling us about the local area, where we should see etc. She was more like friend than like someone who we had just met! Would highly recommend! We will definitely be returning in the future! Thanks very much too you all for our stay!

Nothing! Everything was great!

location

access to room. little steps up down and up again to door. We were both 77 years old found it slightly dangerous had to roll up rug in room as turning up at end and nearly fell. it is an old property but there were probably rooms which would have been easier for us. To go up narrow steps then duck to get through door then slight rise in floor made it a challenge room next to restauarant toilet which was another step and activity. Shame lovely people but access for us, made it hard. Plus parking is there but not easy to access, market day we nearlty caused a riot getting through, no warning of this before arrival.

The staff were very friendly and always helpful. I loved that I could take my dog down to breakfast with me and to an evening meal too. She was made a real fuss of. It was very close to the Bishops gardens and Cathedral which I had particularly travelled to see and dogs were welcome there too. Near a green area for my dog too. It was a little rough around the edges but it was clean and the bedroom was a generous size as was the bathroom. Stairs were challenging for a person of my age and with the dog but the bedroom smelt really clean and fresh every time we were in there.

The plumbing was not too good. A shower over bath was difficult to get the temperature correct and flowed slowly. The taps too were slow flowing. The stairs were challenging with closed doors at the top which with a dog was hard work. No lift but it is a 15th century inn so anyone staying would have to be a fit adult even older adult for the stairs.

It's obviously an old building which is much of it's charm (I assume it's listed which is why it's still single-glazed) but the rooms are warm and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was lovely and the service was excellent. WiFi was very good in the room. THE LOCATION! It's slap bang in the centre of the high street, everything is walkable from there. The car park is small and tight but we got parked both times we arrived. We loved our stay here.

I've had more powerful showers in other (newer) hotels but I'm really nit-picking here. Again it's an old, characterful building.

It’s a very old building so don’t expect all mod cons - the furniture in my room was all older than me, but charming and the door stuck but the bathroom was up to date and very clean. Mattress soft, yes, but I got a good nights sleep on it. Room was quieter than expected and staff were all lovely.

I’ve seen lots of moans about the food and yes, I had to ask them to re-cook my scrambled eggs because they were completely liquid but the waitress was good about it. They are obviously stretching to make ends meet - one member of staff in the evening covering the reception and working in the bar - but staff were perfectly professional.
