The location is convenient for the town with easy access to shops etc. Hotel is traditional, the rooms are very spacious and comfortable. Everything worked and everything was clean and tidy. Staff are friendly and helpful. We would stay there again.

There was a general lack of finish that differentiates a good hotel from a great hotel. Examples 1. The dining room is a huge space with fantastic natural lighting - but the decor is bland - the room could stand huge pictures, rich colours and big mirrors. 2. Our bedroom was large and spacious but the settee and arm chairs had been pushed to the sides and there was no coffee table 3. We sat in the garden for awhile (which is lovely) but no one came and asked if we’d like a drink etc 4. Dinner was nice but a bit lacking in ambience - cloth napkins, no table cloth and no candle on the table.

Beautiful cosy period property with attractive traditional features. We had room 16 which was tastefully decorated ,quiet and well appointed with everything we could need ,spacious room with high quality bedding ,pillows etc All staff are friendly and efficient .Service excellent .We are all our meals at the restaurant and breakfasts .The food is truly superb .This is our third visit and we will be back!

Felt the bar area could be refurbished .Lacked atmosphere and looked tired .Pity it had no atmosphere and no one really uses it .Needs a few magazines ,maybe flowers on the tables and menu/drinks list on display .

The room was immaculate, the staff were brilliant, location perfect. Though a small car park, across the road is further 'overspill' parking. At the time of our stay we were advised a wedding was taking place, at no time did those festivities interrupt or spoil our stay. Great nights sleep, beds were comfortable & the rooms must be well insulated as no noise was heard from the wedding. Just to add further - The Swan would be a great location for a wedding, the staff in particular deserve another mention - so accommodating.

If I were to be really picky, I would have thought the breakfast would have been inclusive of the overall stay cost. But not a problem & was good value.

A lovely place to stay. The staff actually make the stay extra special, all were helpful, friendly and really nice. Nothing was too much bother for them. The room was clean, furnished to a good standard and the bed was comfy. The gardens are very pleasant, I sat out reading in the evening and had my evening meals in the gardens. The food was excellent, just the right temperature. Very dog friendly my two loved the attention and dog treats. A perfect spot for walking into Hay and walking to the river walk and Warren.

The room had a beige carpet which made me rather anxious as having 2 dogs I was concerned about dirtying it

Lovely old building, parking easy, location excellent in Hay.

Room was very hot and a bit dated. It wasn’t clear that breakfast wasn’t included in the room rate - staff didn’t advise when telling us the time of breakfast at check in and it was also written on personalised welcome sheet in the room. The extra £50 gave us a shock at check out! Wouldn’t recommend staying in for breakfast - it was fine but there are better and cheaper places in Hay itself.

Great welcome from reception right through to bar staff, restaurant staff and breakfast staff. Very welcoming and eager to help with our requirements. Great food from the restaurant and an amazing choice of local products. It's definitely worth a trip to stay and eat here..

We honestly thought it was far too hot throughout the hotel. Our room was 26°C after we took a reading from my smartphone.. the radiator controls were isolated, so I repaired the controls, which gave us a pleasant night's sleep.. and no,I didn't charge..

Very nice hotel, in a brilliant location. The rooms were tidy and clean, and tastefully decorated. Everyone who worked there was very efficient. The dining room was also very lovely, and the food was exceptional.

The pillows were a bit too firm for my liking! But that’s the only thing I would complain about, which is a very tiny thing really. I don’t know if they would have swapped them out if I had asked, as I decided it wasn’t worth mentioning. Still managed to sleep perfectly fine! :)

We arrived late about 7:30, but the receptionist confirmed our reservation for dinner. The food I think is slightly pricey, but I had the beef with roast vegetables which was extremely good. My wife and I stayed there three weeks ago and we will definitely keep going back. If you're looking for a well run traditional hotel then this is the place to stay in Hay!

Better range of beers please - only lager and cider available. Also, more light in the dining room, it was hard to see the food on our plates, possibly not helped by the dark décor. Last thing, Earl Grey tea in the rooms please (or the Welsh equivalent!

Local town hotel, such a change from the usual corporates. Right next to the town. The Swan had some atmosphere and so good to relax for a few days. Room was big enough, shower worked, bed was comfy. A little bit old fashioned perhaps but what would you expect in Hay! Afternoon and evenings was very warm so a drink in the garden was pretty near perfection.

Extractor fan in the bathroom rattled a bit. Might be time to replace it. Otherwise can't think of anything we did not like

When I arrived, the staff were very friendly. The room was nice and the bed was comfy. Clean towels and flannels were laid out neatly with a nice welcome letter. The bathroom was clean and the shower was good.

I asked for a double bed in a superior room and although it was technically a double bed, it was actually 2 single beds pushed together so you could feel the join down the middle of the bed. I paid for room only but decided on breakfast on the Saturday. The service from the staff was excellent, the cereal and toast were great but the breakfast was let down by the cooked breakfast were the scrambled eggs were very wet, the mushroom was wet but chewy and the black pudding and bacon were very dry. The coffee came in a pot with a metal handle which was very hot and I had to use a napkin to handle it. The cost for 2 nights was £265 with the breakfast costing £12.50. Although it was a good hotel, I did feel it was a bit over-priced.
