I had a very peaceful, relaxed break away, as there was one other room free, I was given a choice between the two. I think the next time i will call to ensure i get the ground floor room I had again. Breakfast was gorgeous, I didn't need to eat till dinner. I promised Gail i would comments about the car park in my review. Do not disregards Gail's warnings about the car park, it really is small, the building complex dates from 1645 and was built for horses and carriages. If your car is medium to large, then be warned you might not be able to park inside.

absolutely nothing, i enjoyed every single thing. I was warned about the car park before hand so it didn't matter as I found street side parking easily

Gail is an exceptional hostess - very kind and interesting to talk to and knows how to make a great vegan breakfast. Brecon is an interesting town and the inn is well placed for exploring it. We enjoyed visiting the theatre, cathedral and museum/art gallery (all of which are minutes away on foot), going on a canal ride, and wandering around looking at some of the historic buildings, many of which have plaques.

Behaviour of some other guests was less than ideal one night - Gail very kindly made me a takeaway breakfast so I could catch up with lost sleep

The honesty and hospitality of the staff. They explained in detail about the car park. It is suitable for small cars and motorbikes. The fact that they no longer offer to tidy rooms during guest stays etc. They did as advised, check that i needed anything during my stay. The room was spotless. They also explained that each room is different due to the incredible age of the property. I am not able to manage steps, but i had booked an upstairs room, without realising. They offered to find me a different property to stay at, in case they couldn't accommodate me in a ground floor room( which they did).

absolutely nothing to dislike

Gail the owner was fabulous, she couldn't do enough for you. What a lovely lady. The room was outstandingly clean, bed linen, quilt and pillows were of very good quality. The double bed was really comfortable. At breakfast you could have cereals, hot toast, jam conserves, orange juice, tea/coffee, full cooked breakfast, with a choice of poached/fried/scrambled eggs, on a hot plate. No trouble at all to have a vegetarian breakfast for my partner. You couldn't ask for a nicer place. The owner gail made you feel welcome as soon as you arrived. Will definately be staying there again. Secured Parking on site also.

Leaving as we both had a fabulous weekend.

We love historical buildings and this old coaching Inn was built in the 17th century. We were thrilled to experience the quirky interiors!!! But also grateful for the freshly decorated interiors which are so much more comfortable than the 17th century (think indoor plumbing and cosy beds!). And oh we will miss those delicious breakfasts! As advised before booking, the car park is small, but we brought the small car because we were told about this early on!

We loved it so much! Can’t wait to come back. Thank you Gale

Were to begin? The wonderful welcome from Gail put me at ease straight away. The room was the perfect size for us. The bed was super comfortable. The loose leaf teas were a brilliant touch, eco friendly and delicious. I mean, the camomile tea was actually whole dried chamomile flowers! So much care was taken to cook our breakfast exactly the way we like it, I like easy over eggs while my partner likes them easy medium. The bread- home made every day by Gail- Simply FABULOUS. The car park is small, but we expected it because it was mentioned in our welcome email. I only mention it here, because when I told Gail I would leave a review, she asked me to talk about the carpark!

Wow! What a gem of a place 😍 The location was perfect, and opposite a great pub for dinner. The room was stunning, beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. Gail was probably the nicest person I've ever met in a hotel/BnB/guesthouse in all my travels. She was super friendly and helpful, I'll definitely be back. I came up on my own as I wanted to get up early and walk the Taff Trail the next morning. My biggest worry about the walk was that I wouldn't get enough sleep but it was so comfy that I was asleep before 9pm and up and ready to walk by 5:15am. Will definitely be back and use it as a base for more adventures, hopefully with friends and families.

It was faultless

Our stay at Borderers was a delight. Gail was so incredibly welcoming and eager to please and meet our every need. She was brimming with recommendations for exploring the area and always was there with a smile. The building itself was so cute and quaint.

Bed was a bit firm. We stayed on a Friday and Sat and quite hot with no air con, so we had to leave the window open, but struggled to sleep due to the party-goers. Perhaps having a fan could have been ok, but to be fair, we didn't ask for one.

This might be eight or nine out of ten, but for one factor that makes me want to rate it as eleven out of ten - Gail. My partner and I had been touring around mid and north Wales to celebrate our first anniversary and Brecon was our last stop. Gail's hosting was easily the best that we encountered and I can't think of anyone more friendly, helpful and supportive who we encountered. Nothing was too much trouble and she recommeded places to go, places to eat and helped to make our anniversary special.

There were a few quibbles - this is an old coaching inn, so the floors are uneven and therefore the bed had a slightly odd slope to it, for instance. However, everyone reading this review should note is that the entrance is through the old coach entrance and it is just about the width of a normal car. You'll need to turn into it from the town side, not the by-pass side. Luckily Gail was on hand to guide my partner through the driving, but it's worth knowing. Normal cars will be okay, but don't try to fit a van or a large car through there!

An excellent location, right in the heart of Brecon, but not too close to the centre of town as to be noisy. Bedroom and bathroom were perfectly sized for a couple, incredibly clean, well looked after and very comfortable. Breakfast was amazing, the perfect portion size, and with a really good variety of options and customisation. Gail is incredibly knowledgeable about Brecon, with loads of recommendations - I'd take her up on her advice! We will definitely be returning!
