The hotel is both beautifully designed but not stuffy and has retained the original character of the building. We had a room upstairs on the other side of the courtyard which is a lovely space for a coffee or glass of wine. Comfy bed and very good shower. Excellent breakfast - coffee very good. The hotel is in the heart of Rye and parking nearby was very reasonably priced.

Due to the age of the building, there is little sound insulation and many creaky floorboards so I was disturbed a little early by neighbours moving around. This is only to be expected in a building of this age!

Having visited Rye many times since I was very young, I have always wanted to stay at The George. Our room, which was a Junior Suite was excellent and very quiet and comfortable. It was quite warm, but a fan was provided and with a small private patio, we could leave the door open for some air. The bathroom downstairs was exceptional with a lovely roll top bath and huge power shower. The staff are lovely and helpful and the Grill restaurant served very good food with great service. Rye is my home from home and The George is a brilliant hotel for a more luxurious overnight stay.

The central location was great! Our room was quiet, spacious and comfortable Some of the staff were exceptionally helpful

The breakfast self service area was too small with only one coffee machine so this area quickly became congested. The breakfast self service selection could have been more imaginative. Some of the staff were not as helpful as others. On one morning the corridor outside our room was almost blocked by bags of linen with no sign of the housekeeping staff to move it We arrived slightly too early to check in and there was no secure area to leave our luggage. The receptionist on duty told us to leave our bags by her desk but this area was not always attended

Loved the character and style of The George. Very tasteful decor. Conveniently situated. It was our Silver Wedding Anniversary so it was a nice touch that the Manager brought us two glasses of Prosecco at dinner and a chocolate/raspberry decorated plate saying Happy Anniversary. Staff friendly and helpful.

Our room wasn't ready at 3pm. Room 41. Very small. Striped carpet in corridors dangerous as steps difficult to see. Leaks from ceiling in small lobby just outside room making carpet wet. Rectified twice but leak moved. Obviously from room upstairs. Asked for Rare, but not Blue, steak which was just a little pink - more medium. Didn't complain because we hate waste. Perhaps we shouldn't have said 'not blue'. Delicious otherwise. Disappointed that there were no kippers for breakfast.

Great location, stunning building, very cosy rooms with fluffy towels. Unfortunately no facilities to leave language whilst exploring the town and very disappointing. One older couple staying had to pay late check out fee so they didn’t have to carry bags! Breakfast fabulous choice however evening meal menu expensive and not enough choice. We had fish, no fish knives? Chips over cooked and couldn’t get fork in them, luckily breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. Staff were friendly but lacked that final sparkle which let the side down.

Staff need to be on the ball, I tun Events an I would be disappointed if they were my staff, friendly but didn’t go beyond and above and when paying 5 star prices it’s abit disappointing.

The room was lovely, clean, well appointed with a very comfortable bed and an excellent shower. No obvious noise from other rooms. It is a beautiful building, nicely laid out inside with a very pleasant restaurant area. Staff are extremely friendly and courteous. The bar area is good, we’ll staffed with a reasonable choice. Breakfast was good, freshly cooked although a bit on the small side. Other accompaniments were extremely nice. Dinner in the restaurant was good overall. My steak was excellent, however my wife regretted choosing the gambas which wasn’t all that. There was a wedding at the property during our stay but we weren’t bothered by noise at all.

There were no dressing gowns in the room which I would expect from a hotel of this calibre. The draught cider at the bar is absolutely dreadful, change your supplier! A major gripe is the ‘bottled’ water. The still water is almost certainly tap water, and the sparkling water (which wasn’t available with our evening meal) was, I suspect, the same. That isn’t good enough for a hotel of this level. I don’t mind paying for decent water with a meal.

Lovely spacious room - we were given a disabled room. Some noise from the street but nothing too bad - we wore hearing aids. Lovely ambience and beautiful courtyard. Breakfast was amazing. A particular mention to Anna at breakfast - welcomed by a lovely smile and she was so happy always makes everybody else happy. Hotel very clean and very central - the George is the hub of Rye.

Dinner a little disappointing - cod plate lacked taste and potato slightly burnt (dessert was taken off the bill to compensate). Most of the dinner staff needed to cheer up a little but the maitre d’ was a lovely gentleman. Our room (no 3) was a little stuffy and smelly due to the lack of air flow in the room. Other than that we had a lovely stay.

Most of the staff were very friendly and the reception staff were generally helpful, but staff training shouldnt happen when a customer is waiting.

For an establishment that tries to position itself as upmarket, certainly by price, I was disappointed by the quality of both the dinner and breakfast, the service was disorganised and sometimes over enthusiastic. The high-tech coffee machine was broken at breakfast and again there seemed no method in how service was organised. The room was very warm, and the fan provided was better suited to a bar or shop as it was so big and noisy. The jammed shower door that trapped my wife in the shower and the slug climbing up the shower wall later that evening.

I booked an overnight stay for my parents as a birthday gift from myself and my sister. They were happy with the location and the room, and they felt the staff were very friendly.

I was unhappy with the communication with the hotel. I told the hotel at least twice who the guests were e.g. not myself as the booker, but nothing was added to the registration. I was asked whether I wanted to book an evening meal and whether it was a special occasion. Despite saying it was a double birthday celebration, nothing was offered! Despite knowing my parents were guests they were charged for the meal. They did query the bill being pre paid but the staff did not think to charge it to the credit card! Although this was minor, and my parents had a lovely time, I would appreciate the staff taking time to understand what is being asked.

Great location, we had a suite and the room was a great size. Bed was really comfortable and bathroom was amazing.

Room opened out onto courtyard that’s open for drinks so was noisy with people in the courtyard. Staff seemed rushed (under staffed?) and were really hard to find or get their attention, particularly at breakfast. We could see other tables having the same issue as well. They cleared one table and relaid it without cleaning it and then one person just wiped some crumbs off with their hand.
