The Swan Hotel, Stafford, Staffordshire

This hotel felt like luxury and was also really quirky with its original features! The staff were really friendly, the room was equipped with absolutely everything you’d need. The bed was super comfortable and the rooms are spacious. On-site parking was perfect after a 4 hour journey. A huge shoutout to our waitress Amberle. I have dietary requirements (specifically gluten free) and she was very knowledgeable and helpful with the menu for dinner and breakfast. The food was honestly amazing! Overall we had a brilliant stay and would return.

Property with masses of character. Lovely bar and sitting area (not really a lounge, more of a corridor but a nice place to sit). Big shout-out to Jason who was very friendly and fixed my door when it wouldn't lock. Very comfortable bed.

I'm not keen on a shower over bath set up, don't know if the hotel has shower-only rooms, I would check next time. Also, although the room was big enough for a comfortable chair there was only a hard upright chair. The car park is hard to find, it would be better if the hotel could send a photo of exactly what to look for when trying to find the entrance.

Access to the property was a problem as the streets are all one way and it wasn’t signposted. The car park was at the rear of the building but that wasn’t in the detail when we booked. So it was stressful. It took 3 circuits of the city to find it. We only found out after we asked a local. It would have been very helpful if the postcode for the large carpark had been provided at the time of booking and details “like drive up to the barrier and it will open automatically, the hotel will provide you with a token to exit the car park once you have checked in”

We booked this last minute for the night before a wedding and were very pleasantly surprised at how lovely it was when we arrived. The bar and restaurant area were spacious but had good atmosphere, and our room, although not huge, was very well appointed and very clean. The cooked breakfast was very good. We were also very easily able to find quiet spots in the restaurant/bar to do a bit of work the following day. Also very pleased to find there was a car park (with plenty of space) that is free to guests in the hotel. In hindsight we should have stayed another 2 nights rather than relocate to our next accommodation for the wedding which was disappointing in comparison to The Swan!

The continental breakfast options could have been a little more extensive (just boxed cereal, oranges and croissants) but excellent cooked breakfast options.

Everything was fine but I particularly liked the welcome and accommodation for my dog. Upon arrival at the room, the first thing spotted was the comfy dog bed and the bowl of dog biscuits. My dog immediately sniffed the bed and settled down on it. He also decided to ignore his own bed and spent most of the night on the new one. Also, the area provided for breakfast and evening meal was very pleasant with a view out of the window. We were made to feel like part of the hotel. So often when one travels with a dog one is looked after but put somewhere out of the way on one's own. Generally, a very pleasant stay. Also, the bells from the church were chiming which I really liked.

We arrived at the hotels car park and were glad that there were lots of spaces available. Check-in was quick and easy with the staff member checking us in being really pleasant. The room itself was really big and clean, as was the bathroom. We were glad extra pillows were given. The bar was open for residents until 5am which was handy, even if we didn't stay up that late All staff members we spoke to were really lovely and helpful

The wardrobe in the room we were in rattled everytime we walked past it which became a bit annoying after a while. The fan in the bathroom was a bit loud, but not a massive issue We unfortunately missed the included breakfast slot, but managed to have a breakfast in the main restaurant. We didn't understand why the cut off for included breakfast was 10am when breakfasts were being served until 12pm I did request upon booking (made over a week in advance) if anything could be done due to it being my boyfriends birthday to make the room a bit more special, but nothing was done or acknowledged during our stay

Nut roast Sunday lunch was dry and inedible, sent it back once, to be replaced with the same, they knocked it off the bill but didn't say sorry; overall short staffed - had to go looking for a member of staff in bar area; couldn't get through on phone other than to leave a message; when my calls were returned, we were told different times for bar food to stop on s Sunday eve; could make it move obvious bath mat is on reverse of bathroom door - could perhaps leave near bath

We booked one night and liked the hotel so much we booked again a few days later for our return journey which we had not intended to do. The rooms were comfortable and clean, the evening meals and breakfasts were excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful particularly one young man who made a fuss of our dog on both our visits and who served our evening meals on both occasions. Our dog was welcome and treats and a dog bed were in the room. We would not hesitate to stay at the hotel again.

Breakfast, excellent selection on the buffet and hot menu , served with a smile and a cheery chat .

the room we were in was directly above the front door ( coaching doors closed before 11.30 , with a wooden bar ) phone number to ring for entry . the area between coaching doors and front door acted like an echo chamber , so every time bar was removed ( not able to do it quietly) and guest chatting to staff as they arrived back was very. noisy in our room . I was told that the sofa bed had bedding , there was no sheet or duvet cover and only cushions. as it is an old property lots of squeaky floorboards

Fantastic location with parking in the busy town centre was an added bonus. The hotel is full of interesting paintings, artwork and sculptures which made it fun to walk about and explore. The staff were also very helpful and made us feel welcome on out display.

We stayed at the end of June during the "heatwave". The rooms don't have air conditioning and have added security that meant the windows could only be opened slights (pretty standard for most hotels). A fan was provided but this didn't do much to cool down the room.
