Set in beautiful Gardens, with what we can only describe a 7 acre private park. The building is most impressive inside. Obliviously built to impress visitors. The stairs & balcony could well be used in TV etc. The room was OK. The previous occupant had left some items in the wardrobe, which the staff removed immediately when informed. Bed was comfortable. Shower room clean & in good condition. We asked for a ground floor room as l am disabled. Sadly there was no view, also, it was hot at the time & could not leave windows open. But we had the use of an electric fan. We only had breakfast each day, which was fine with a good choice. Other meals are available at extra cost. Once again, the conservatory attached to dining room was really rewarding, with clifftop sea views, & the Garden. Easy to get to Teignmouth & sea front etc on foot. Beware, the parking is hard to find & expensive throughout the Torbay area. Unfortunately it can be difficult to park at the hotel at certain times as well. Forgot to mention the good bar.

Hotel parking. Always managed, but not everyone parked considerly.

We came down at a busy time according to the written guidance in our rooms so obviously there were frequent shortages of basics like cutlery, glasses etc. As we weren't in a rush this was ok, just part of the adventure, and the staff were charming and doing their utmost. Suggestion: put a notice by the pots of porridge to say to ask a staff member to add the boiling water as the hot water in the drinks machine isn't hot enough, I took to popping up to my room to boil a kettle which worked fine. The fried breakfasts looked great. Suggestion: with the yogurts, maybe staff could take some off each set of different ones? All the natural ones were out at once then there weren't any for the rest of the week. Great location, lovely walks down to prom and along next door parklands. Really nice room. Great staff. Very reassuring comfortable bit old-fashioned atmosphere (nothing wrong with that, it's retro.) Really good to hear plans to reintroduce the specialist activity holidays for visually impaired guests.) An education having so many of this community staying and guide dogs everywhere. Really relaxing only having room cleaned on request... but see below

See above for a couple of suggestions Evening waiter service was a bit haphazard, sometimes they just served the other end of the dining room. Slight sense that it was all a bit random - no-one overseeing it. Well, in mornings too, but there were more staff around then. Room boiling hot 24/7. I really appreciated having dry towels, but it was a hot week, and the room was unbearable at night. I opened the window and drew the blinds to stop insects coming in, and for privacy... but then the breeze made the,m batter on the window frames noisily. I don't know what the answer is, and got used to it during the week, but was rather sleep deprived due to the heat.

The breakfast was extremely good and plentiful. Having previously stayed at the hotel prior to Covid, it was evident there was no waiter service or selection of breakfasts. This is totally understood as everyone has to cut back on costs. This is not a moan but a fact of the times and the staff could not have been more helpfu.

Prior to Covid there was daily cleaning of your bedroom. As previously stated this is a sign of the times but if we needed anything topping up, we were always dealt with by the helpful reception staff. We would certainly stay at the Cliffden again as it has everything we need. Thank you.

Breakfast was good, cereals, yogurts, cooked breakfast etc. Evening meal would have been much better if there had been more staff in the kitchen, as the meals were taking ages. The location ( although on a hill) was excellent, near the beach with stunning views and a lovely garden. There is a bus stop (no. 2) outside the hotel for those people like myself who may find the walk back up the hill too much.

Lack of staff in kitchen , the meals were taking too long to come out. Who ever was doing the cooking deserved a medal for coping as much as they did .

The room was very large and comfortable with an en-suite bathroom, tv, tea coffee making facilities and a hair dryer

I like a very dark room to enable me to sleep but there was far to much light coming into the room from the bedroom door perhaps a curtain over the door would help and blackout curtains instead of a roller blind at the window. The only other thing I detested was Dogs in the dining room, two guests sat near us had 2 dogs under there table and they were feeding them food from there plates. I don’t agree that animals should be in an area where other guests are trying to each there meals.

Friendly, helpful staff, great location, beautiful gardens to roam in, down (almost) to seafront, & terrace for less mobile guests. Spacious CLEAN, EN SUITE room, & view... On "campus" Parking, (for which I'd happily pay £5/nt.) Bus stops just outside entrance... Food: tasty, well prepared/served, & novel options (eg: sweet-chilli cauliflower, starter)

MINOR things(suggestions)... Maybe provide a small fridge, for bottled water , fruit, cans of "coke"?🤔 eg:- our guesthouse in Goodrington provided fresh water, daily, in a "Kilner"style bottle... Collect full at dinner, return empty at breakfast.. nice "personal" touch at negligible cost?

Nice hotel. We will definitely stay there again. The location was wonderful, with sea views from some of the rooms and the dining room. It is set in 7.5 acres of beautiful grounds, which lead down to the seafront, and you can walk into Teignmouth. The buffet breakfast was very good. Our room was light and very clean. Housekeeping in the rooms is not automatic, but you can request a clean at any time, and reception have any extras that you might need during your stay. There is also a lift which is great for getting cases up and down. The bus stops right outside the hotel, which is very useful for getting into Dawlish, should you wish to leave your car behind.

The shower was very small.

clean, comfortable and ideal for going into town.

loud, fog horn like noise in our room and also outside along the corridor, late Friday evening which happened twice. Had to ask reception to investigate, believed to be connected to the central heating. Noise did then stop and didn’t reoccur. Dog barking, almost non stop, after breakfast each morning, from a room a few doors further down the corridor. Have no problem with dogs in hotels, as long as they are well behaved and don’t disturb the peace of a relaxing holiday break!

The hotel building is historic, perfectly charming and full of character. The extensive grounds are quite exceptional and even include a designated area for exercising visiting dogs. The restaurant meals were very reasonably priced. I have never experienced a hotel room with so much wardrobe space.

The hotel management are still not routinely offering daily room service, supposedly because of the risk from covid. If one specially asks for one's room to be serviced then they will do it. I made no complaint, but I did feel that this was an erosion of normal expectations by stealth. The swimming pool is "irreparably damaged", so I feel that this should be updated on the website to avoid disappointment.

Lovely grounds and excellent location Very generous sized room with very good facilities. Very good breakfast selection.

Large bed but was two separate ones pushed together. Only sparkling water in room. No toilet brush in the bathroom. Vegan options for breakfast could be ordered but 15 minute wait- would have been better to have been able to pre order the night before. Didn't feel that I had a sufficient meal for the cost of package. Overall, for a beautiful period property, the general fixtures and fittings in room were too modern and didn't do the venue justice.
