A great hotel in a amazing position. Lovely views across the bay. No need to use the car, town and beach very easily accessible buy foot. The rooms looked like they have been recently decorated and were very clean, the beds were comfortable, lots of hot water. All staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfast, catered very well with our Gluten Free requirements. Would recommend it to family and friends, and look forward to a return visit. Thank you for a lovely place to stay.

An excellent cooked breakfast, toast, fried bread, pot of coffee, jams etc. Not self service, greeted by lovely staff that take your order and greet you with a cheery demeanour. A great location and it’s really 5 stars for a 2 star hotel stay. Only downside from a personal point was the private garden across the road. I damaged my ankle on the paving which was very uneven and it caused great discomfort for a couple of my days. This really needs to be slightly levelled as the crazy paving was the cause of my injury. That aside the hotel has a lovely breakfast room and a great bar that should get far more use with wonderful bay window looking out to sea. The staff were all great and having what appears to be happy staff makes for a better stay. My room was a single, plenty of storage and space for me. Shower over bath perfectly fine if a bit temperamental. I’d definitely stay again as great value.

The paving in the grassed area opposite. A beautiful view during the evening but terribly uneven on entry, more so for anybody infirm. It had me on my backside and I’m a fairly robust chap.

I have marked Ashton Court as "excellent" as I feel it was definitely better than "good", but would have described it as "very good" had that option been available. The position is excellent, with wonderful sea views, and the staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was also excellent, plenty of choice, and good quality produce. The room itself was a little dated in decor, but clean and light. The communal areas were very bright and cheerful with lovely modern wallpaper.

The bedroom sizes are on the small side ( I had upgraded to a sea view room, so saw 2 bedrooms, similar in size). The hotel is an older traditional hotel, and unfortunately the rooms were smaller then, this can't be improved upon. There were some traces of the dreaded black mould along the bath edge. Nowhere to hang towels. The one towel rail in the bathroom was in direct line of fire of the shower. I personally think the prices were a little on the high side.

The staff were very friendly & couldn't do enough for us. The food was excellent, a lovely breakfast & the night we had an evening meal it surpassed our expectations! The pillows were really comfy too!!

We didn't ask for a fresh supply of tea & milk as had brought our own so don't know if more was available as it wasn't mentioned. The coach party who were also there put their coats on the chairs in the lounge (aka towel by pool) even if they weren't there rather putting us off going in there. We also noted hot drinks weren't available at the bar

Great location, only few minutes walk from seafront and town. Bar & grill place and small shop at bottom of road. Overlooks seafront, nice private garden opposite with seating/tables. Lovely breakfasts, friendly staff. Quiet hotel (much appreciated). Free parking on front of hotel and also free street parking.

Draughty sash window and lot of wind noise (3rd floor room) on windy days. Bedding had some yellowish (old sweat?) stains on it, shower difficult to get right temperature (controlled by the bath taps).

Arrived after a bad journey on the M5 but found the hotel very easily. I was greeted by the new general manager, Paul, a lovely person and keen to help. Hospitality is about being hospitable and Paul certainly gets this, whereas a number of hotels - even at 5 star level - don't! I felt welcomed and a valued guest. My room was truly lovely, with a sea view, which I had not expected. There was also a bath as well as a shower - I do like a bath. to relax in after a day of walking etc. The rooms are on several floors, but there is a lift, so no worries there. Intending guests should note that the hotel has been under new ownership since September, and is therefore being upgraded - the bar and the dining room have been completed already. This upgrading work will of course take time. Breakfast is served in the dining room and consists of fruit juice and cornflakes which you get for yourself. A waitress arrives to take your order for tea/coffee, toast and the cooked-to-order breakfast. When I was checking in, Paul told me that the that the sausages were good [they were!] and to ask for two, so I did! Since I was on holiday [and being greedy!] I ordered a large rack of brown toast, which arrived at exactly the right time and was hot and crisp, not soggy. The beach is a couple of minutes' walk and the town centre a few minutes' walk in the other direction. There was free parking at the hotel, but if all the spaces are taken, there is free street parking in the road, and if that is full, then in nearby streets. This is my sort of hotel - caring, kind staff. There is a pleasant back garden and one at the front overlooking the sea. If you are wanting a very modern hotel, then maybe this is not for you - I would describe Ashton Court as 'traditional and comfortable', but that is just the sort of hotel I like. Paul has big plans for this hotel and I look forward to coming back and seeing how they are getting on. Good Luck, Paul and many thanks

There is little to dislike here. Only one thing I would mention - at the moment, they only serve breakfast. In one sense, this is not really a problem because there are lots of places to eat close by. When I arrived, feeling frazzled after lots of unexpected delays on the motorway, it would have been good to have been able to have dinner in the hotel. The hotel also looks like the sort of place that could do a really splendid afternoon tea. Something for the future, perhaps.

Everything was great, had a lovely spacious sea view room in a grand old building. All areas very clean, lift available nice spacious bar and lounge, basement type dining area again assessable by the lift or stairs. Had breakfast everything you could possible need for a decent start to the day, especially the poached eggs…Beds were very comfortable and clean, bathroom shower over bath with a surprising good pressure considering the age and size of the building. Good size room plenty of space for two, lovely size fitted wardrobe plenty of hanging space and a dressing table. Within walking distance of town centre, parking available on hotel front, town has plenty of eateries and shops, train station where we caught train to Exeter, lovely shopping area. Hotel across road from the beach, near the theatre and a bowling centre. Quite location, with local scenic walks. Nothing was too much trouble very laid back atmosphere, our stay was made by the friendly professional and lovely Joseph and Paul…helpful, local knowledge always on hand for any requests and keeps the hotel running smooth and comfortable, pours a lovely bar drink or two….😜…Was mentioned new owner and possible short shut down for some refurb, can’t deny these old character hotels need some t.l.c.the upkeep for these places must be horrendous but we never saw anything in Ashton court that made us think oohh that could be done or needed urgent attention and in no way did we find anything to put us off ever staying there again, in fact would love to return for a longer stay to explore the area and it’s surrounds some more..The overall weekend was great, would highly recommend a stay here clean, comfortable, decent home cooked meals available, plentiful breakfast, entertainment on some nights, and the comfortable bar area a bonus for those rainy nights..Shout out to Joseph and Paul thank you both for your help in making the Ashton Court what it is today a friendly, clean well priced establishment.

Every where and everybody could always find something to improve wherever they stay, but I can honestly say for the reasons that we chose this hotel, mainly for placement near Exmouth Theatre, that we was more than pleased with the hotel considering the price we paid for two in the room. I can’t honestly say there was anything I didn’t like.

Bed was super comfy, pillows excellent. Nice bar & breakfast area. Breakfast was very well cooked & staff were helpful & friendly. Great location. I would recommend & stay again.

Small shower with overly long shower curtain but shower temperature & pressure good. Room 003 has a supply fan for the boiler directly underneath which runs constantly. Shuts off automatically from 10pm to 6am. Not overly noisy but would disturb you if you were a light sleeper.

Set in a good location, slightly uphill but within a few hundred metres of the town centre & beach. Plenty of free parking available outside the hotel & on the road overlooking the beach. The room I stayed in had a bath & shower set up & a stunning sea view. Quite surprised that entertainment was on offer via a few singers. Bearing in mind that this hotel is only two stars it is very good value for money. Don't expect the Ritz but a solid good value hotel.

Breakfast could have been better, but the hotel was understaffed & dealing with a coach party on top of other guests. Televisions need to be updated as they are old Philips models & fairly small.

It is a lovely old building with stunning views of the sea front below. We managed to park outside the hotel on the road which was great. Very quiet location. Hotel is going through some refurbishment and it's looking good. The bar area was great and modern looking. Breakfast was great. Special mention to the owner for going the extra mile by suggesting we have breakfast outside in the garden because we had a dog. On the whole a very nice experience. Definitely recommend.
