The room is beautifully decorated and a good size with en-suite bathroom and small balcony. Great views from here. Location of hotel is perfect, on a hill overlooking the town and sea.
Have stayed here a few times, the breakfast menu used to have more choices; now it is a bit more limited. There used to be eggs Benedict and also a fruit compote with Greek yoghurt and granola; I was disappointed this wasn’t on offer anymore. The pastries on the communal table should have been covered with something to stop the flies landing on them, it was a bit off putting. Also baked beans were served in a tiny pot, there couldn’t have been more than two teaspoons. The waitress was lovely, lively and welcoming.

The Ness is in a beautiful location right by the bay in Shaldon looking over to Teignmouth. Shaldon village itself is really pretty and, from there, you can get a little ferry across to Teignmouth every 15 minutes or so for £2 per person. We had a standard double room ( number 8 ) which was lovely. Every little detail had been thought of and we even had a terrace looking out to the gardens and the sea beyond which was great for early morning coffee. The bed was really comfortable and the bedding of the highest quality. The staff were lovely, particularly the friendly lady who served our breakfast each morning.
Whilst the breakfast was lovely and beautifully served, we were rather disappointed with the evening meals. The first night was OK but on the second night we opted for crab and hake fishcakes which was one huge and rather soggy fishcake with a bit of salad. A few fries on the side were around £3 as I recall. So, if we were in the area we would stay again because of the views and the standard of accommodation but it would be even better if the food were to match everything else.

Our room was lovely and comfortable, lovely clean bathroom. Lovely cooked breakfast, nice selection of cereals and pastries and fruit. Service was very quick and efficient, our waitress was very helpful and friendly.
Just one small hiccup, we booked an evening meal in the restaurant, and the waiter put us right at the back in a dark part, I explained my husband didn’t have very good eye sight and could we please be moved as there seemed to be a lot of empty tables at the front with better lighting. Your staff said they were laid for other people, but nobody came the whole time we were there!

A very beautiful building built in the early 1800s. Quirky with lots of great decor. Very comfortable. Staff very helpful and friendly. Beer great (as it should be from a top brewer). Dinner excellent. location wonderful on the Ness peninsula and very close to a great dog friendly beach via Smugglers Tunnel. (Not built by smugglers, sadly.)
Having had a great dinner I was expecting a good breakfast. But it was poor. Worst sausage I have ever had and bacon poor. Coffee good, but that did not make up for the rest. Hopefully just an off day as everything else was so good.

Staff were very friendly from first arriving, the pub itself was so welcoming as soon as you walk in. The room we stayed in (8) was so so pretty with lots of space, lovely private balcony and views of the garden and sea. The bed was so comfy and the shower was amazing! Location was lovely as it was so quiet but near enough for a walk to the village. Breakfast was lovely as were the staff and it was perfect base for us for the weekend as they had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend the Ness to anyone looking to stay in the area.

The food was very good. Service was excellent. The view off the sea was lovely..although in our room we didn't have that view ..but could see it from a live webcam! Bottles of water everyday & the extra clean the housekeeping gave when we pointed out a few things.
The shelf overhead the sink makes shaving or washing your face difficult?!!! The directions to the pub must be encouraged to go to the notices for the Shaldon zoo...anything else the roads are too narrow & horrible to navigate. Very few parking spaces @ the pub.

The Ness's location, with it's stunning views, is definitely it's selling point. We arrived earlier than expected & we greatly appreciated being able to check-in early, as we had a function to attend. The staff were pleasant & very accommodating. Our supierior double room was very comfortable, with a shared veranda offering amazing views of the sea, estuary & Teignmouth. Breakfast was delicious.
We only stayed 1 night!!

The Ness itself is a beautiful building in a unique and beautiful location and lots to explore in the surrounding area. Our room had a wonderful sea/estuary view with a private balcony. The room was very comfortable and spacious enough to spend time and have a drink in. Breakfast was good and catered for vegans. We enjoyed a light lunch and drink on arrival.
If I was really clutching at straws the shower in our room could have been a bit more powerful and the staff could have been a little more welcoming. But they were not rude at all, and were very efficient and none of this took away from how much we loved our stay.

Breakfast choice good also the main menu, not a huge amount of choice on the evening menu but something for everyone (less is more!). Nothing was to much trouble and staff were really cheerful and friendly. Considering staff at the moment are hard to get this team made up for it big time. The place is lovely with a homely feel, you can really relax and feel like you belong. I would recommend The Ness without hesitation, it has lots of character and charm of days gone bye with a modern twist. If I had to make a negative comment then it would be our food plates could of been hotter, a small oversite I'm sure. It is easy to get to the beach from the hotel and only a 10 minute drive to get in to town, lots to see around the hotel inside and out with easy directions to the private cove through the smugglers tunnel.

Staff were all really cheerful & helpful, lovely atmosphere as a result. Breakfast was amazing, lots of healthy choices as well as a huge full English! The room was lovely & having a balcony meant we could sit with a cuppa & watch the boats & people on the estuary for hours! The restaurant & the room were spotlessly clean.
I struggled with the mattress being a bit hard with dips from repeated use. My partner slept like a log on it! I suspect the mattress is coming up to its renewal time. The stay would have been 10/10 otherwise, could not fault anything else in any way.
