The Blue Boar

The breakfast menu was out of this world, so many options I almost wished that my partner and I were staying for longer so we could sample every dish on the breakfast menu. The room itself was comfy and large enough for the two of us however Staff were amazingly helpful and polite, even received an apology from one of them the day after we had enquired about tea/coffee top-up, apologising because they had finished their shift when they realised they'd not given us the tea and coffee for the room. Staff were very well-presented, gave good advice re the menu options for evening meals and were chatty and approachable.

The bedside lamps did not work and the bathroom, though very clean, could have done with stronger water supply. I.e. the flush was quite weak, as was the water pressure from the basin taps and shower but was other wise great.

Bagged a great deal at late notice for a friend's leaving do. Staff were really friendly at check-in and generally during the whole of our stay. We had a room in the annex which was huge! Lovely large bathroom! Air conditioning which was a blessing in 30c weather. Food was incredible, portions weren't huge but just right for me, a little small for my husband. Really positive stay.

Very little. Only one issue with the toiletries provided, the pumps had stopped working on the bottles so it meant you had to unscrew lids. Very minor point! Although there is a blackout blind, the light still creeps in. Some curtains would help with ensuring the room stays dark in the morning.

A charming country side inn with a lot of character. Situated just in front of the main bus stop in Witney, convenient for traveling around. The stuff was especially helpful when we asked to convert a double bed into two single beds, this was done in 10 minutes right away. The stuff was also quite helpful when we asked for help figuring out bus schedules. Nice restaurant with an option of sitting outside, which we enjoyed.

The WiFi arrangement requires giving out a lot of personal information, maybe it could have been less aggressive.

We stayed during a heatwave so we were delighted to find that our room was air conditioned. The room was comfortable with large twin beds and a decent bathroom. The bar area and restaurant are very pleasant places to relax and we enjoyed drinks and dinner there. We can recommend the pizza from the wood fired oven especially. The staff were all attentive and friendly. The standard of service was very good.

Nothing major just a few things to consider. The stairs leading to the upper floor bedrooms are steep and twisty. Might be a challenge for those who find stairs difficult. The decor in this part of the hotel is a bit faded and tatty. Both reading lights in our room (11) were insecure and need to be fixed properly. Breakfast was good but a wider none-cooked selection would have been nice, particularly some fresh fruit.

Really good value in a central location. The room (standard double) was comfortable and spacious. The breakfast was exceptionally good (much better than what I've had in expensive hotels). The staff are also really lovely - warm and helpful and made us feel very welcome. Overall excellent value for money and we'd happily stay again.

The door handle on the bathroom needs to be repaired as it was a bit wonky.

Staff were friendly & helpful. Restaurant was exceptionally good. We had dinner and everyone was very happy with all of their choices. Breakfast was equally good with an extensive menu suitable for all dietary needs. We loved the animal shape made with towels, ours was a crocodile holding the tv remote when we checked into our room which had air conditioning.

Elements of the property are very tired, specifically the bathrooms in our superior graded rooms. Loose loo seat, failed sealing around the bath, broken fittings including the bedside lights. It felt very much like general maintenance was missing. Noise. Our second floor rooms, numbers 12 & 15, faced the road and there are frequent buses stopping outside of the Blue Boar also Witney is very noisy on a Saturday night and well into the small hours. The secondary glazing cannot cope with these levels of noise, take ear plugs. T here is an annexe to the rear which would be much quieter and would have been my choice if available. Access to rooms in the main building is past the lavatories and the unpleasant odour was unexpected on our particular visit.

The breakfast was excellent, a lot better than a lot of hotel Inclusive breakfasts and where we ate was very pleasant. The staff were really pleasant . It was relaxed. You felt independent . The room had really nice decor, it was just a bit hot up there and had the window open so woken by market being set up at 5am. But very glad to have windows you could open! And liked the market which we visited the next day!

Overheated in rooms at top. Coffee machine didn’t work, or maybe we could t work it? Had to pay £20. Extra for the dog which was unexpected and too much really. It was quite expensive anyway for us.

The room was lovely, clean, and big, with everything we needed in the room. It was also in a separate building to the pub so it wasn’t too loud. It was located in the centre of town, so transport and everything was close by. The breakfast included in the price was awesome - buffet or anything on the menu with drinks included. The staff were so attentive and polite. Overall, it was excellent value for money and a fantastic place to stay if you’re in Witney.

The staff are so lovely - they really make the visit very special. They couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. They felt like friends by the time we left 24 hours later. The room was a little tired - and very different to the photos on the webpage - but we only booked a standard double, and maybe the photos are of the more pricier rooms. I guess you just assume the photos will be representative of all the options. The bar area and restaurant are very trendy and feels decadent. The shower was powerful and warm. Breakfast was just stunning - a pure decadent start to the day. We only saw the fabulous pizza oven as we left - we wished we were staying for one more night to taste the pizza.

This isn't a dislike and wouldn't stop me returning - but I hope it helps others. We hadn't realised that there's no parking at the Boar - so that adds a little bit of a pain. We checked in early (which was very generous of the hotel) but it meant we were too early to take advantage of the free parking at the nearby Waitrose. It's worth having a bit of a plan as to where you can park...we were kindly given the option to bring the car to the back of the pub to unpack the boot but normally that's not an option. So pack light as you might need to carry it a short distance.

Lovely restaurant with amazing food, if a little pricey. Room was very pretty, lots of character. Comfortable bed and hot shower. Allowed us as early check-in as we arrived ahead of schedule.

Very noisy (I suspect there was something nesting above the roof beams). Coffee machine in room not working properly. Breakfast was overcooked and chef was playing awful music louder than the peaceful piano music in the restaurant.
