The Highwayman is perfect for me as I travel to Oxford frequently for work. It is a literal stone throw away from the business park where I work, after which I can retire to a pint, a home cooked lasagna and a comfortable night, then roll out of bed to a continental breakfast in my room, and be in the office bright and early the following morning. All for a very reasonable price. I just wish I had time to try the cooked breakfasts, as apparently they're amazing! :)

The beds are quite basic, and the duvets and mattresses might be on the firm side for some. Personally, I'd be happy with a warm room and a sleeping bag, but I am paying for a bed, and a bed is what I am getting, so that's fair.

comfortable room, to be honest when we got there it hadn't been cleaned properly, but Nick was only too happy to rectify the problem and he had the room cleaned in no time. He went above and beyond to ensure our stay was a good one, and even posted my blouse back to me which I mistakenly left behind. Staff really make this place. It is very convenient for the bus to Oxford and Park and Ride also

Staff are super helpful and friendly, parking is easy, location is lovely right next to the canal and 25min from central oxford.. We didn't have breakfast so can't comment on that but had a couple of beers in the bar in the evening and that was super chill and nice. Our room was also quite small but the bathroom was massive so we weren't bothered. Bed was super comfortable.

Rooms are slightly dated but were lead to believe that from previous reviews so wasn't a surprise. Our room was supposed to have a view but didn't. Didn't bother us though. TV remote worked but didn't turn the TV off so had to do that at the wall. not a big problem. Just a little niggle.

What an absolute gem of a place, we could not have been made to feel more welcome. The location is lovely and the rooms clean, comfortable and great value but it's the staff who make the difference. From the warmest of welcomes from Will to the excellent food, company, hospitality and Oxford tips from Jake this is a place we will happily return to. The food is amazing and Jake has a real talent. He also gave us great ideas for Saturday which we really enjoyed. Loved the music entertainment on the Fri which we were not expecting. Made our anniversary stay a lovely break more like a total holiday than a weekend- thanks everyone you are lovely people.

Great location with easy access to both Oxford and Blenheim palace. Lovely walk along the canal to Thrupp. The staff we spoke to were all friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome. We had both the continental breakfast and cooked breakfast on different days and both were excellent and great value for money. We were particularly impressed with the amount of options in the continental for only £5. The room was clean and comfy. A little rough around the edges but that is to be expected as this isn't a modern hotel and to be honest gives it Character. Would definitely stay again if we are in the area!

These are minor comments compared to the overall stay but it would be good to give the entrance area to the downstairs rooms (rear entrance) a bit of a tidy as there were a few things left around the area that made it look a bit untidy (old bedding etc). Also as a suggestion maybe put a bell in the bar. Its hard to get staffs attention when they are busy in the kitchen.

We had a great three nights at this little hotel by the canal. The night we arrived was folk night, there was a great atmosphere and all patrons of the pub were very friendly and welcoming. We were met by Will at check in, a very charming young man who was glad to help us take our bags to our room. He gave a perfect introduction to the facilities and checked in with us that everything was ok and as it should be. We booked breakfast for the morning, this is between 10am and 12pm a real treat to have a leisurely morning rather than the usual rush to get up and ready for breakfast. Jake was the delightful host in the morning. His breakfast was great, served quickly and piping hot, everything was fresh unlike the generic buffet style breakfast served in many of the chain hotels. The room we stayed in had real charm and personality, it was clean the beds were exceptionally comfortable. It was just so refreshing to stay somewhere individual. I could go on and on but the main point is for the money you pay it was exceptional value and I have to stress the most welcoming home from home feeling I have ever had when spending a weekend away. Great job guys !

Very comfortable room for the price - it had room for a sofa and a table with chairs. The bathroom was a good size too; we didn't have time to use the whirlpool bath, but it was a nice bonus feature. It was nice to have the canal right outside the window - handy for a stroll before dinner. Great for an overnight stop before driving the couple of miles to the Oxford park and ride. Staff were friendly; relaxed pub atmosphere in the bar.

Slightly limited menu choices, but the fish and chips were fine. A net curtain in the bathroom would have been good.

The breakfast was well cooked and good quality produce. I liked the fact that it was served at the table. A selection of fresh juices was available and quality bread and jams and toaster. There was an alternative of continental breakfast. The room was spacious with a lovely view, clean and tastefully decorated.

I received a very friendly welcome, and was taken to me room. The room was a good size with direct access to the car park. There was a large smart TV, a beverage selection with biscuits. Everything was clean and tidy with a modern shower and bathroom. Ample free parking and overall excellent value for money.

It was not clear on the Booking.com website that breakfast was not included in the rate, Unfortunately the cooked breakfast doesn't start until 1000hrs, so had to go elsewhere for food. Some late evening noise from a nearby railway line, but not really a problem.

Will, the host/manager/barman/server was very friendly, professional and helpful. The food in the bar was delicious and the atmosphere was cosy and great with a fireplace. Our room was very nicely decorated and cosy, the bed was plush and comfortable and the bathroom was clean and well equipped. The hotel is approximately 3 miles from Blenheim Palace and approximately 7 miles from Oxford Parkway Park and Ride, so very well situated. Would happily stay again.
