The Station Guest House0

Stayed two nights in the Station Guest House. Building and rooms are quirky, but you are in the station master’s residence. We had a room with glorious views overlooking the River Deben. You are above the station platform but didn’t find the trains a problem. Foot bridge next to the guest house gives access to the river and short walk to tidal mill and longshed housing reconstruction of the Sutton Hoo ship. Breakfast was plentiful served in the cafe below the rooms. Check in is limited to 12 ‘till 5. Not a problem for our late arrival as Carla had notified us that the keys would be in a key safe for use.

I liked the range of food options, so I was able to choose some simpler options instead of a full English Breakfast. Good to see that a Vegetarian option is available. Good range of Hot and Cold Beverages too. The view of the River Deben with the boats & countryside from all bedrooms is lovely.

Some people may not like the trains arriving and leaving, but they are 1x hour in each direction, so I didn't mind at all. The train service starts & finishes at a reasonable time too. They will be quieter once the engineering work to the tracks and level crossings finishes in April 2023.

The station guest house was absolutely lovely. The room was a good size, nicely decorated with a lovely view of the river and although it is the station house and trains come through twice an hour it was very quiet. Breakfast which was served in the old waiting room was well cooked and ample. Staff were exceedingly helpful, Paul met me off the train and helped me to my room and my case was stored in the office at the end of my stay. Location wise it couldn't have been better, just a walk over the railway bridge to the river and all the river walks, just over the road there were several pubs/restaurants and a little further on into the centre of Woodbridge with its array of lovely shops.

Nothing it was perfect. I have stayed in spa hotels paid far more for smaller rooms without views and not received such a warm welcome.

it’s the old station house and we love trains (well, steam but it didn’t matter!). qwerky but had a nice view of the river and harbour. Breakfast in the cafe was excellent.

possibly the several flights of stairs which was good exercise but could be a problem for infirm guests as all rooms were on the top floor. Unfortunately the fire alarm went off at 6.15am on the Sunday morning which was a horrible shock especially waiting for the owners to arrive standing out in the cold. they eventually managed to stop it ringing and we got another hour of sleep.

Really comfortable and clean. Well positioned with a car park right outside that we always managed to get a spot in, despite it being busy in Woodbridge on beautiful summer days. The breakfast was really tasty and a really great atmosphere, in with locals who are clearly regulars. The announcements at the station start at 5.30am, which isn't so much fun, but if you close the window you can't hear them! There are fans provided if you don't want to open windows but we didn't use them, we were happy just to stumble over and close the window and from the twin room you don't even need to get out of bed! There are hairdryers and a really nice supply of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits! The twin room is not a huge room but the double has lots of space and both rooms have plenty of storage.

A little thing, but I'd have really liked reassurance that there were hairdryers in every room, sometimes places don't provide them so adding them to the list of facilities would have saved me taking ours.

A perfect location for exploring Woodbridge, Sutton Hoo and Framingham Castle. Our hostess and all her staff were very welcoming, friendly and so helpful. They went out of their way to find local information for us and help us out. The breakfast was superb. Scrambled eggs cooked to perfection and everything fresh and tasty. Thank you to Carla for running such a wonderful place.

A few more milk sachets in the room maybe?

Lovely setting with a holiday atmosphere and a great view. The trains did not disturb, and everything worked in the room. Windows easy to open & close, Great TV with remote not worn. Coffee / tea & biscuits. A chair & desk. Plenty of storage & a sensible size room, comfortable bed & good ensuite. A brilliant breakfast but only available after 0900 hours which suited me, but may not suit everyone. And the car parking works really well. I won't hesitate to return.

Randomly chose Woodbridge for a two night get away and it really is a lovely place. The Station Guest House is excellently located right by the river and with lots of cheap parking available at the working station. Clean comfortable rooms, friendly staff and breakfasts down stairs at the attached cafe (table reserved). Highly recommend this place for a visit to Woodbridge.

Carla is an excellent host and the room was very comfortable and clean. Breafast was very good. Easy access to the river front and town centre.

Room security was a bit basic and even though rooms were fire separated they were not acoustically rated. Access to my room was via a narrow staircase so best not to travel with a big bag like I did.

Easy book in. Great access. Over fab cafe. Next to harbour. Excellent location with long stay car park handy. Great host and cafe staff. Comfy bed, two windows, river and station view. Coffee, tea, water, hairdryer, column fan, nice shower/loo etc. Dressing table and comfy chair, full length mirror and nice tv and remote. Linking to cafe WiFi a doddle and good speed. In short, everything we needed, and we’ll be back! Thanks to Paul (great comms about arrival and book in), Carla (very accommodating about a later breakfast as we had an early appt) and very pleasant housekeeping lady. Well done all, after a 230 mile drive it’s nice everything was so smooth and personal.

Not much really, just prepare yourself it’s an old building, sash windows and next to a railway station with tannoy. It’s all character and if you understand it’s the old station masters house all will be fine.
