Garden Street Inn Downtown San Luis Obispo, A Kirkwood Collection Hotel

Location was fantastic. A couple of minutes walk to all the interesting parts of town. And SLO itself is a great location for visiting the coast and wineries inland. One point of importance: we dire a plug-in EV and the parking structure behind the Inn has plenty of EV chargers. Special bonus: there are 3 chargers in the parking area itself that are free if you are parked there - but they are often taken. If they are taken, there are at least a dozen pay-as-you-go chargers in another section of the structure.

Could not get the AC/Heating to work. I know that staffing is not easy and expensive, but it would be nice to have bed and room service every day, not just when you specifically ask for it.

The property was centrally located within walking distance to all restaurants and shop. The shared space downstairs was decorated very nice and cozy, so many books to read! The spa tub in the room was very nice.

The black out curtains in the room are inside mount which let a lot of light in at night. Outside mount application would cover the street lights coming into the room. The mattress was not very comfortable at all. The city started sidewalk cleaning around 6:45am-830 am which was incredibly loud. Not the fault of the property but I would ask for a room facing the back of the property and not the front.

What a beautiful inn - I would definitely stay there again. It felt like I was sleeping in someone's beautifully decorated home. For the most part, it was quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was also delicious and the location is great. I especially loved the clawfoot tub in our room. The place was exceptionally clean, as well.

The only thing I didn't like was having to park so far away with all of our bags. It's nice that they pay for the parking, but it's quite a ways to walk with your luggage. We didn't have to leave with the car at any point, but I was curious as to what the hotel did in that case.

Probably one of the most coziest hotel we’ve ever been to. An hold Victorian building renovated with very nice furnitures and colours. The rooms are exactly as shown in pictures and I loved it every part and detail of it. We loved the little chimney that we turned on on a heavy rainy night. Bear in mind that there is no elevator to the bedroom’s floor. Nice and comfortable to have a parking just a block away. maybe just the bathtub could have a repaint as it was peeling off but except than that, everything has been FANTASTIC

Location is terrific-right in the middle of downtown, great for shopping and dining. The room was very nicely decorated. The only downside was the stairs to the upstairs was long (not great for tired old knees). The help, especially the guest hosts, were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast food was delicious and plentiful. We had a very pleasant stay.

The stairs were a little long and the room sink was in the living space and not in the bathroom. Very small inconveniences.

San Luis Obispo is so lovely and quaint! We loved the location of the Inn because you could easily walk to everything. Also enjoyed the wine in the afternoon and ambiance of the property. July is a wonderful month to visit SLO because of the purple jacaranda trees!

Breakfast was very good, but the coffee pot was often empty and we had to wait quite awhile both days.

Great location, one minute walk to restaurants, shops. Lodging is a very quaint Victorian house. Our room, ‘Our Town’, was quite charming but also functional and bed was very comfortable. No refrigerator in room but a large communal one available near lobby. Very cozy library with fireplace on first floor. Good breakfast. Free parking in public structure 1 1/2 blocks away.

The staff at the Inn is wonderful--we have travelled extensively for the past 35years and stayed in so many hotels internationally and domestically and what makes a great hotel is always the people who work there. Rodnee noticed that my 86 year old mother would be staying with them for three weeks and reached out weeks before we would arrive to make sure we knew there was no elevator in the historic Inn and that the hotel was not equipped with mini fridges (there is a large fridge available for guests)or microwaves in the rooms as they do not have long term guests usually. When I assured her that was OK but the stairs were an issue they worked to move her to a downstairs room. Upon arrival at the hotel they had been unable to switch the first evening from the upstairs but Katie spent about a half hour reorganizing room assignments until she had my mother downstairs for her entire stay. The next day Rodnee worked moving my mother to the room downstairs with the most accessible bathroom. Every day they thoughtfully prepared whatever breakfast my mother might want and gave her access to the easier stair entrances, and just generally went above and beyond to be genuinely considerate and caring to my mother for the duration of her stay. My husband,son and I were lucky enough to stay with them twice and again, Rodnee, Katie and Lauren went out of their way to make us comfortable and accommodate any of our requests. The hotel itself is small and cozy and quite beautiful , and they bake cookies every afternoon so guests can sit in the lovely downstairs area and have coffee and cookies in the afternoon or evening. The whole vibe is very warm and friendly. The location is probably the best in Old Town as its just a block over from main street but its not noisy. The bedroom windows upstairs look out on trees and we sat everyday in their little front garden watching the hummingbirds. They have some good books in every room and in the library and some suites have fireplaces.

We didn't love the separate washbasins and mirrors in the bedroom unattached from the bathrooms--it lacks privacy although it looks nice. Having said that, there are room options that do not have this set up so you can request those. We didn't have breakfast there because we were on holiday and breakfast ended at 9:30am even on weekends--it would be nice if it went until 10am. SLO is packed with really good breakfast spots right next to the hotel so its more practical to opt for outside breakfast although my mother did eat early daily at the Inn.

From the moment we stepped through the door we loved this exquisite property. The staff were exceptionally nice too. This picture-perfect inn was beyond lovely. We stayed one night on our US road-trip and is was excellent. The town was safe for a nice walk-about and there were super eateries up and down the street. Breakfast at the inn was hand-made and we were delighted to meet the lady who made it. What a lovely experience!

Everything was just so lovely! There was nothing not to like.

Breakfast was great - the daily cooked special was a lovely idea and executed well. Best breakfast we had on the trip! Location is also excellent, walking distance to downtown. Room was nice and decorated well. Staff were also really friendly and helped us with recommendations for rest of our trip
