Sugarloaf Mountain Motel

We’ve had an amazing stay! Both hotel owners were so kind and so helpful, they really made our stay extra special. They gave us a lot of good recommendations and even showed us around town. We are used to stay at higher end hotels, so the rooms are not big but it’s very clean and you’ve got everything you need. To be honest, we loved it just as much if not more because of the personal touch! Theres also a small store at the office which has plenty to offer. We would really recommend staying a night at Virginia city to get the full experience, and if you do stay at the Sugarloaf!

When we pulled up, we were not impressed by the property. The office is inside the little store where we were greeted by the very friendly and helpful "staff". The room was a surprise! Although small, it was nicely decorated with a modern bathroom, a refrigerator and microwave. No desk or chairs for sitting though. There's not enough room for that and two queen beds. The beds were surprisingly comfortable. It's half a mile from the center of town, so if you want to go to the bars and eateries, it's a short hike. On the plus side, there is less street noise at night.

Our only complaint is the thin walls. We could hear half of our neighbor's phone conversations pretty clearly, and they had two small children, so pretty non-stop noise while they were in their room.

This is a cute little motel. Don't expect lavish, luxurious accommodations. This is not that kind of place. Nothing about it is fancy, but everything is clean and tidy and in good condition. It has small, cute, old fashioned rooms with comfortable beds. I loved the "local guide" binder that has all the entertainment and menus for all the nearby restaurants. It's excellent if you just want a nice place to sleep in Virginia City.

The lock on the door on room #10 needs some adjustment. I had to pull the door very hard to make it latch. Hopefully, they'll fix that soon. Also, the parking lot is really small, best suited for small cars. This is not a big deal though- you can park on the street if you have a larger vehicle like a full-size pickup truck or van.

I booked the junior sweet unit #12. The room is located in the back up some really creepy stairs on to a cute patio for relaxing. I was not here to see ghosts, but if you want an experience stay in room 12. What ever is in the room doesn’t seem to be malicious. It will open the bathroom door that is latched closed and hide your keys. I finally said to the ghost to move on and bug someone else. From that point on I had the best sleep in along time. The beds are super soft and everything works for being a very old motel. I recommend this place. The staff is super friendly and check in was really fast. They have a store on site. If you want a blast in the past and maybe see a specter move around, stay here.

Love this place. Second time I've stayed there. Loveliest people run this spot. Genuinely rad folks. Location is ideal if you've got kids, since it's a little detached from the busier part of town, but it's also easily walkable to that part of town. The room is cute & perfect for the stay in Virginia City. It's not a corporate, cookie cutter hotel room. It's a small, unique spot, run by a good family. There's a little store on premises, which is a nice amenity. I will definitely stay again.

The property is south end of town but still close to everything. Its cute, clean, more up to date on the inside than I thought it would be. has WiFi, a nice shower and the staff was very friendly. Also, the most adorable mascot.

Not much I didn’t like. I came with different expectations but as far as a motel it was quaint and clean. The mattresses are very soft and I liked that for sleep but sitting on them was another story.

The staff had personal interest in the hotel and built relationships with the clients. The hotel had no buildings across the street from it, so there was an amazing view down the hillside. Having a market on site was a delightful surprise. It was quite easy to walk into the center of town and to the train station.

The cooling unit turned on randomly for 5 seconds at a time, and the refrigerator froze the food that was stored below the freezer compartment.

My only real issue would be the room size. A little tight, but this room is mostly for sleeping. We did spend a fair amount of time there and enjoyed ourselves. Coffee and danish in the morning gratis. Store on site is well stocked, microwave and very nice fridge in the room.

The room was clean and the bed was the most comfortable one I've slept in besides my own! The staff was so friendly! The view is great, and we love Virginia City!!

The shower door would not stay closed when you're taking a shower or otherwise. It was the only thing, and everything else was great! The small market could be better stocked, but it was fine.

This was our favorite stay of all the hotels on our 10 day road trip. The owner was so delightful and helpful. The room was so very cozy, we felt like we were staying in a relative's home. Great location as well. We highly recommend this Motel! Love, love, love it!

We have zero complaints. It is lovely.
