Shane & Louise were excellent hosts..nothing was too much trouble. The continental breakfast was fabulous...simple, but just what we required. Cereal options and fresh milk in the fridge. Shane's fresh bread was delicious and the fresh fruit was a nice touch. Willunga is a beautiful little town and is a great central location from which to explore the McLaren Vale region. Walking distance to several dinner options (Moongarden Pizza was very groovy) and the Willunga Markets on Saturday morning at the local high school are well worth a visit if you appreciate good coffee and fresh food/produce.

The room was a little dated...carpets could use replacing, etc but this is only superficial. The room overall was comfortable and functional.

The attention to detail is what blew me away the most. The kitchen was stocked with an abundance of jams, tea, coffee pods, fruit, milk, fresh bread and juice. The kitchen was also stocked with utensils and dishwashing gear, and the bathroom had plenty of complimentary toiletries and fresh towels. I was really pleased with how spacious the room was, that there was a safe space to park a car, and how central to Willunga the location was. Great value for money, I would definitely recommend booking a stay here.

I think the bathroom window was locked to be slightly open for ventilation, but as a female guest I like to be extra cautious with safety. I was able to cover the gap with a towel but an option to close that would have been good. Everything else was great.

Lovely. All just lovely. A fresh loaf of house baked bread greeted us in the room, which we enjoyed with our just bought cheeses and then had toasted for breakfast next morning. Fresh fruit, local milk and a good selection of condiments plus tea and coffee made for a nice start to our day. The location is great and also really peaceful. Bonus was our hosts generously offered to give us a ride to our event that evening which was just beyond kind and so appreciated.

Well…the fact that we only had a short stay. Next time we’ll have a longer break, definitely enjoy the Saturday Markets and wander the Main Street a bit more to explore the eclectic selection of retailers.

The provisions were excellent. The bread was wonderful. Willunga itself is a hidden gem, away from the hustle and bustle of McLaren Vale but close enough you're right there. The cottage has everything you need for a short stay. We were fortunate to be there for the Farmers Market which made our day/stay!

There is nothing really. The shower leaks a tad into the bath mat...? A flyscreen front door so you can invite more fresh air in would be nice. We loved our stay either way and will be back in a jiffy next time we are in McLaren Vale.

We loved our stay at the 1839 Cottages. The room was very spacious and furnished with all we needed. The generous breakfast supplies (bread, spreads, muesli, fruit, OJ, etc) were delicious. The bread appeared to be a homemade rye sourdough (?).... it was sensational. Communication with our host, Shane, was very easy. He contacted us beforehand to let us know that our room was ready earlier than anticipated, and he met us to welcome us into the property. The location was brilliant, allowing us to leave our car at the property and stroll along Willunga's delightful High Street. My brother-in-law and his partner joined us, staying in the cottage next door. It was the perfect set-up! Thanks, xx

I can't think of anything - it was a really lovely stay.

Wow - this was a such a great place to stay. Shane was welcoming and the home baked bread loaf was an unexpected bonus. The room was comfortable with well stocked condiments. Location was excellent, right in the main street of Willunga. We enjoyed the local walks, shops and markets on Saturday

We liked it all - Nothing to add here really. For a safety perspective I would recommend the toilet door should be rehung to swing outwards - to open up the room (a bit cramped) and in case medical emergency access in required.

Ample interior. Far more space than I expected. Generous Breakfast option. As a solo traveller felt very safe. I enjoyed walking on the main street instead of having to jump in my car. Hosts made accommodation very comfortable with a homey kitchen and generous cupboard space.

Check in wasn't what I expected. Normally other hosts give me details well before. I have no intention nor time to enter the property prior to desired time. Parking space was difficult but I managed. Mind you, our cars are built big these days. I unfortunately had a night of major Gail force Winds. There was a terrible banging noise next cottage. Something that hosts probably aren't aware off.

Loved every bit of it and will definitely recommend it and come back to stay. Beautiful, extremely clean and very well set out cottage with a lovely garden. Hosts were very communicative before and during without being intrusive. They went the extra mile to help with our last min laundry request. Loved the home baked loaf, welcoming warm slightly scented room with low music playing in the background. Was perfect location for exploring the vineyards and the area. The best stay of our two week driving holiday so far.

Nothing.

What a great little place to stay for the night while exploring the McLaren Vale region and enjoying dinner at the nearby The Salopian Inn (5 mins down the road) We needed somewhere just for one night and there was nothing around. Then I found 1839 Cottages and they had their “small double room” left which as it was just for a night I thought would be ok. Well it’s more than ok especially for the price! A tiny bathroom with a seperate shower does the job and is all brand new and spotless clean with big fluffy towels. the bed though only a double was comfortable and again lovely new bedding. The continental breakfast was a nice surprise, a lovely home baked loaf with butter and preserves, fresh orange juice, fruit and cereals all ready for the morning to make yourself and sit outside at the little table and chairs under the covered patio. If staying longer take one of the larger rooms if available but don’t be put off the small double!

The only thing was the pillows are firm but you can’t please everyone and I still slept very well!

Great location on the main road of Willunga--easy to walk to cafes, shops, restaurants and even the Saturday morning Farmer's Market (held at the local high school). The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable with a cute little courtyard. Shane makes an amazing sourdough bread, which is highly addictive. They also supply cereal, milk, juice, fresh fruit, and a pod coffee machine in your room, so you can enjoy breakfast on your own time. We discovered happy hour at the brewery next door with $0.50 wings on Friday night. It's a great location for exploring the local wineries and not too far from the beaches either (like Port Willunga) if you have a car.
