DoubleTree by Hilton Melbourne

All the staff were friendly and polite and nothing was too much trouble. We felt very welcome. The room much larger than expected (room 815) and was clean and the bed was comfy. Our room was also in a very quiet location so we had no traffic noise etc as our room was at the rear of the hotel (not an amazing view but we weren't in the room a lot and preferred the good nights sleep with no road/train noise). The breakfast was plentiful and we also appreciated the made to order fried or poached eggs or omelette option. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious as was the in room dining. We would stay here again and recommend to others as the location is close to everything - trains, trams, shops, parks, theatres, river etc (very handy to have a chemist next door and woollies a few doors down.

Pillow options - not everyone likes a feather pillow so a choice of feather and foam or similar is always preferred (to avoid neck problems the next morning). The breakfast items under the heat lamps were only ever luke warm. And perhaps some variety in the items offered would have been nice too - when you're staying somewhere for more than a night or two it does become a bit boring to have the same type of pastries and hot items on offer every day (but this is being picky). We really did love our stay and I'm struggling to find any major faults

Directly opposite Flinders St overlooking the Yarra, just amazing. Rooms were very quiet and couldn't hear the trains or traffic below. Staff were beyond helpful and the foyer bar was a nice space to spend a few minutes before we headed out for the night. A perfect place for a short stay right in the heart of Melbourne.

Rooms are really quite small and the bathrooms are smaller than that. There was only one chair even if you did want to watch some TV. The towels were showing signs of wear and tear.

Lovely large room in nice hotel in excellent location just across road from Flinders Street Station. Good supermarket just next door.

Road outside is quite noisy and busy, though room itself was quiet. Check in desk is at one end of bar so initially didn't recognize it as the lobby. $50 per night deposit was a bit hefty and when I applied (as offered) for an upgrade I was a bit annoyed that this wasn't discussed and confirmed at check in as the upgrade offer said it would be - so I got an unexpected extra bill on departure.

I tried to post the following feedback via the Hilton feedback site, but it was an appalling feedback from, unable to put my state, or the city of where I stayed. Potential billing error, but as I didn't receive an itemised account I can't really tell. My booking at the Double Tree Hilton, Flinders st, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on 9 September 2023 was completed at checkout, however we stayed for breakfast which was added to the bill and amount to be deducted from my credit card, which is ok, but I would like an itemised account for me to look at.

Nice quick check in and friendly staff who warmly greeted us at reception. Good sized room, not big but definitely not small. Plenty of lights depending on what you want. Lovely big shower with instant hot water. Nice deep sink so you can easily fit the kettle under to fill. Comfortable bed for a good night sleep.

Nothing to dislike really. Not really a criticism but more an observation but the flush buttons for the toilets was in an odd spot! You had to put the lid and seat down to be able to flush.

It had a kind of moody industrial vibe to the lobby which I liked. It also smelled like cookies every time I walked through the lobby doors or came out of the elevator. My room was very clean and well presented and had a nice view.

At one point my room key stopped working but it was fixed straightaway. Housekeeping seemed to take a while to go around to the rooms on my floor. I had spent all day out of my room and when I got back they still hadn’t been to my room yet.

Excellent location if you are travelling to Melbourne for the AO tennis or an event at the MCG. Very easy to get to both by tram or on foot. Room is fine for a place to sleep and bed was very comfortable.

Bathroom was very cramped. Room was dark and lighting was poor Housekeeping was a bit lax - bath mat was not replaced one day; dirty sheets were left in the room on another; empty tissue box was not refilled. Flinders St is a bit dirty and feels sketchy at night.

Location was perfect. Close to everything. Flinders Station, trams, casino, shopping, eateries, 2 supermarkets close by, Daisos next door and chemist warehouse. Bathroom/shower excellent. Pump soaps/shampoo/cond/body wash. Foyer very nice and welcoming.

The price. $459 for one night. Ridiculous. Ed Sheeran weekend. Hoping to stay again but at a better rate. Had to use the keycard after 11pm but mine was faulty. Luckily another guest arrived and let me in . Waited at reception for way too long behind guest checking in. Eventually rang my daughter to come down and let me back to the room Also, I could hear people in interconnecting room. Privacy issue.

We liked everything! Prompt and friendly service. Loved the cookie on arrival. We decided to upgrade to a balcony room and it was so worth it. Great view, spotless room, fantastic bathroom, soft cosy bathrobes, bed was super comfy and a fantastic breakfast with lots of options. Cannot fault this property and the location is terrific. We'll definitely go back.

The Double Tree is in a great location with easy access to Melbourne laneways, Federation Square, Southbank and is within the free city circle tram precinct. The decor is quirky and the log fire in the bar/restaurant area is a nice treat when Melbourne turns on a freezing cold day in Summer!

Compared to other hotels in the area the Double Tree is value for money. During peak periods and special events the room prices escalate at all hotels in the CBD. I booked really early and got a price I was willing to pay but had to limit our stay to 2 nights and chose a Queen room over a King. The Queen room had everything we needed but was very snug around the bed and the desk area that is the only part of our stay we didn't like. We would stay again no problem.
