Holiday Inn Express York, an IHG Hotel

This was one of my family’s favourite hotel experiences and it was 100% down to the manager Chris. He instantly made us feel at home, laughing & joking with my kids, always on hand if we needed anything. Breakfast for a family of 4 was fantastic - it’s honestly very hard to beat when it comes to value for money. Bed was comfortable, good wifi and a powerful shower. Super clean throughout. USB sockets in the bedroom. Plus free parking to boot. Every member of staff we came across at the hotel were polite, friendly and had a smile on their face. A great example of Yorkshire friendliness and a credit to IHG hotels. @IHG - you should use this hotel as a benchmark to train staff from other locations on how to operate.

The quality of the stay was exceptional, my stay was a very last minute decision and I am so pleased that I made that decision and decided to stay at this particular hotel. The price was very fair (The cheapest) however, the quality of the hotel was great and the service I received from the staff was very welcoming upon arriving to the hotel. The quality of sleep was great, very dark and quiet room, the bed was very comfortable which made it made it perfect for a great nights sleep. The following morning me and my partner decided to try breakfast (Giving up our lie in!!) and we’re so pleased we did! The food was a lot more than what we were expecting and the food itself was of great quality and tasted great! (I even went up for seconds!) the only thing I can add to that is to make breakfast last until after 9:30am but besides that I have no complaints about my hotel stay. Would definitely recommend!

The only thing that I could say that could be a little better was the timing for the breakfast which lasted until 9:30am, we were wanting a bit of a lie in but we decided to give it a try and it was great!

Holiday Inn express, Malton Rd, York 30th May to 1st June 2022. Everything!. The staff were amazing. It didn't feel like a chain hotel. They went out of their way to make us and our dog feel welcome. It was managed well and the facilities were excellent. The staff and the way we were treated made all the difference to our stay and could not be compared to similar hotel chains which we have stayed at. Breakfast and coffee ect from the reception coffee maker was amazing for the money. Staff ensured the dog got a sausage on arrival and each morning! It was also nice to see the manager fully engaged with his staff and guests each day. Free breakfast/ hot drinks, free WiFi and free parking! Wow. We would recommend this hotel and will definitely be RETURNING. Thanks for a lovely stay.

The mattress was too hard for my husband and I. We both woke up with bad necks and backs.

The staff were amazing, reception day and night, the ladies who did house keeping and breakfast, all fantastic, very friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be at work. Breakfast is buffet style, good hours at the weekend, and had bags for on the go breakfast, and checkout is later than most places. The room is fine, clean and comfy bed, but more geared up for business than getting ready for a night out. No mirror on the desk, had to sit on the floor to use the full length mirror to do hair and makeup.

It was very expensive for what it is, basic business set up. Was no mirror on the desk to get ready for a night out. Shower had a curtain, would be better a door because the room was soaked, also no extractor fan, so was very steamy.

Room fine but as I had booked in as a single guest, I was puzzled to see the sofa bed also made up, restricting the space and ease of access to the window/desk area. The very kind lady responsible for cleaning my room made sure that it was removed the following morning whilst I was out, following our informal conversation. I thought that a very nice gesture and appreciated it. The extra space/access was most welcome Everything else was fine, thanks.

I felt the range of choice for breakfast was pretty limited. Presumably staff were short over the weekend, especially on the Monday morning, tables slow to be cleared, breakfast items running out and slow to be replaced, no one around to assist me in finding a suitable table. Area around the buffet was susceptible to crowding and the toasters queue could encumber movement staff. Perhaps room there for some reorganisation?

The room was comfortable, nice black out curtains and had most of what we needed. Hotel was accessible. Staff friendly.

The breakfast! We ended up not being able to stay for breakfast which we felt cheeted about. No clear tables to sit at and the area to get food was cramped and not an enjoyable experience at all. We ended up going elsewhere and buying breakfast - effectively paying twice! Very disappointed and feel I did not get my full value for money.

the property was clean, plenty of space in the room as well for a family of 4. 1 being a 1 year old who likes to explore, everything in the room was ‘baby safe’ so he was able to crawl around and play. the bed was lovely and comfy and the breakfast service was excellent, plenty of choice with enough seating for everyone. Not only did the hotel have scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon and beans along side yoghurt and a fruit sauce for you to help yourself to on the side, they also had bowls of cereals and then a ‘to go’ meal selection as well which was cereal bars, granola and weetabix which were in individually wrapped packages, and a station for you to make your own sandwiches including sandwich bags for you to take it with you which I find very accommodating to all individuals visiting. if you don’t drive or are attending an event such as a wedding like we did, then you will need to pre-book your taxis especially if you’re staying over the weekend and want a taxi in the evening.

Every member of staff we saw or spoke to was very friendly and helpful. Check in and out was very easy. The room was spacious enough for the two of us and was very clean, it had a good size TV for the evening and the bed was comfortable. There was also a sofa bed in our room which was nice to chill on. The breakfast had everything you could possibly want including cooked items and a continental option. If you're in a hurry the option of takeaway was handy!

The other guests! Being a fairly modern hotel the walls and ceilings are very thin and it seemed like the other guests had forgotten they weren't at home or they simply didn't care about other people. I think whoever was above us were trying to get their step count up before bedtime!

Everyone was so friendly and greeted you with a smile each morning at breakfast. The ladies who were on duty at breakfast were so accommodating, helpful and obliging. They are a credit to Holiday Inn Express (I hope this feedback is communicated to them).

This is the second time we have stayed here this year and my one tiny little urk is the drain in the sink needs to be cleaned and flushed with some sort of cleaner, the smell when you are brushing your teeth is very off putting!

Good value with friendly staff and nice breakfast, decent sized rooms.

I have a dust allergy and the bedside lights were dusty and so was the woodwork behind it. I just would like to point out that with a soft brush this could be fixed in thirty seconds. Have a look into this. The internet was not working when I contacted reception I was given an alternative Wi-Fi to connect to which didn’t work either. The receptionist informed me it was the signal strength which is weak in some rooms. Simple solution is install Access points to cover these weaker areas it’s not rocket science.
