Super location. We had a great castle view from our room (nr 18). The lift gives direct access to the hotel, the carpark, the train to the castle, and within a few metres the old town. Perfect situation for all the sights. Friendly staff, especially the young man who checked us in at 2pm on 2nd April. He went to so much trouble to explain all the tourist activities. Breakfast was fine. The roof-top terrace with castle view must be great in nice weather.

The bathroom was tiny and rather old looking. No shampoo or shower gel. Several rooms are accessed directly from the breakfast room, so I would always request the castle side. Not the hotel's fault of course, but we found the car park very tricky - almost full, confusing signs, dead ends, narrow spaces.

Perfectly located for the Weihnacht markt. Receptionist was extremely friendly and gave us many recommendations for local places. Rooms were clean and quiet. Breakfast was nice and the youngsters that ran it were enthusiastic about their jobs. Parking was a breeze and not tight on space. Right next to train to the schloss and wonderful views from the room.

Bathroom door kept hitting the shower base. Couldn't be helped as the bathroom was very small but was a pain at 2am to make a banging sound and wake up your spouse. Maybe a plastic bumper/pad would help?

Excellent staff. So convenient to the old town and castle. Review of Hotel Am Schloss The hotel is in a concrete car park on the 7th floor. Doesn't sound great. BUT. Lift to 7th floor takes you direct to reception. The manager Yasmina was excellent. Friendly,efficient and informative. The room was a basic business double. No tea/coffee making facilities. BUT. A fridge with mini bar. Good size. Double bed very comfortable and bathroom clean and modern. The view from the room overlooked the castle and Gingerbread houses to the rear. Nice patio terrace outside for good weather. Breakfast was all you needed. Small compact area with some upper seating tables. Excellent fresh brewed coffee. To walk to the christmas markets. 5 minutes. To the Castle 15. It is uphill. Excellent personable server at Breakfast.Thank you Yash. Yes it is in upper cost range but so convenient to the old town and Castle. Excellent staff.

This small hotel is a hidden gem, with fantastic views over the old city and splendid views up to the Heidelberg Schloss (castle) Once you get past the uninspiring entrance which is on the ground level of a parking garage and travel up to the 7th level, you appreciate the compact accommodation nestled on the roof of the garage, and take in the fabulous views of the Schloss from the rooftop terrace. We had lovely experiences eating breakfast on the terrace with these views, and had similar charming views over the rooftops of the Old Town. We were 1-2 minutes away from the centre of the Old Town- Kornmarkt or HauptMarkt areas, and the funicular railway up to the castle was on the ground level of our hotel. Amazing. The rooms were comfortable although compact, and breakfast was included in the rate- there was a good selection of breads, meats, cheeses, fruit etc for a typical and satisfying Continental breakfast. We would stay here again for the views and location, and can recommend this to others.

Ground floor entrance appearance is grungy, but not dirty or unsafe. Rooms are small but suited to travellers needing a place to stay and a base for sightseeing. There was no air conditioning (although we did not need it in our stay in early May). There was no room safe for valuables, although we did not feel unsafe or vulnerable.

The breakfast was excellent and had a large variety of choices. The staff were helpful and friendly. We were able to check in a few hours early and drop our bags, which allowed us to explore without worrying about security. Parking was convenient and 24 hours was 13 Euros, which was 1/2 price. The view from the room looked out towards the castle and some picturesque houses in the old town. It was the best base for exploring the castle grounds. The funicular station is just below the hotel.

It was around 85 degrees F when we visited. Even with the fan, the room was warm and stuffy at night.

We were warmly welcomed to the hotel. Arrived early (as they were breaking down the breakfast buffet) and they graciously provided us with coffee and juice. Our rooms were comfortable. The buffet breakfast was good and the breakfast staff was very attentive (bringing additional coffee as requested). The hotel location is exceptional. The outdoor patio looks up at the castle where we enjoyed a bottle of wine. The funicular to the castle is at the ground level of the hotel and the walking zone and bridge are steps away from the hotel. Couldn't ask for a better location.

This was the best hotel that we stayed at on our vacation. Nothing to complain about.

Our family of four enjoyed our one night's stay at the hotel, in the shadow of the castle. The room had everything we needed, the central location was fantastic and the front desk staff really helpful. Our kids liked the Haribo on the pillows and the fact we could get Netflix on the TV! We were glad not to be staying in one of the rooms that open out onto the breakfast area, as I imagine that gets noisy in the mornings.

We happened to stay on a particularly hot day, so struggled a bit without A/C, but there were two very effective fans in the room.

Amazing hotel next to the castle. Staff was helpful and very nice. At the check-in the lady at the reception gave us the map of the old town and marked the must see places and explained how to get there. We had great room with a balcony and the castle in background and there were small Haribo packs on our pillows which was so cute. Bed was large and comfy and we could hear the birds singing in the evening and in the morning, and that was so romantic and wonderful. The breakfast was classic, but very good - quite a lot of choice considering that hotel isn’t large. I loved the hospitality and will definitely return there again. Vielen dank für alles! :)

The location of this hotel could not be any more convenient, it is literally the top of the parking structure, that is at the base of the hill of the castle, and the funicular to the top of the mountain, is on the bottom floor. It truly could not be better located. The staff were VERY friendly and helpful, and gave us a map, that was well marked with the location of the Christmas markets and an idea of how close everything was. The breakfast was a traditional German breakfast, great bread and meats & cheeses. Really lovely eating area upstairs with windows that look out to hillside scenery. Though it was a self serve breakfast, the staff were very attentive to ask if you needed anything. Our room, while not huge (which is fine, we only stayed 2 nights) was perfectly comfortable, cozy bedding and a great big window that looked right out to the castle on the hill, which was GORGEOUS at night all lit up until midnight. Really great surprise. That is the photo in our review, taken sitting on the bed looking out the window. Fantastic!!!

There was nothing to dislike. Great staff, great location, comfy rooms--- what else do you need?

Great breakfast and location. Room had a balcony with a city view, which we did not expect. Staff was very friendly and helpful- they gave us a map at check in and pointed out things to see, Christmas markets, etc.

The hotel is on top of a large parking garage- but does not have dedicated parking. I think this would normally be fine, but we checked in during Christmas market season in mid-December (the hotel is super close to a few markets) so we did need to wait a bit to get a space. Just give yourself extra time for parking. And they do give you a discount on parking.
