There is virtually nothing to dislike about Suimeikan. Every aspect of the stay was exceptional. Gero Onsen is the perfect wind down to a long trip through Japan, and it's made all the better at Suimeikan. From check-in, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The man who guided us to our room was unbelievably kind and genuine, as were the receptionists. The English level of all the staff I encountered was immaculate, making all aspects of the stay succinct and efficient. The facilities are amazing, nothing beats an onsen, and this place has three. All providing a unique take on the concept, with a panoramic view on the top of the middle building, an outdoor bath, and a full great bath with two hot baths a cold pool and a sauna, you won't find a bath that doesn't please. The on-site restaurants are utterly divine, providing some of the best food I've had the pleasure of eating in Japan. The rooms are stunning and clean, with beautiful smelling tatami and lovely bathrooms you won't have an uncomfortable time here. All in all, Suimeikan is a truly stunning place to spend a night or more in Gero, I can wholeheartedly recommend! So what are you waiting for? Get booking!

This stay was to introduce my family to ryokan culture and they enjoyed it a lot. It was within walking distance from Gero Station and the rooms were really spacious. The packaged dinner and breakfast were good as well. I wish we had stayed another night to properly explore the surrounds and use more of the facilities but our whole trip to Japan was a brief one. Loved the onsen especially the open air one. It was nice they have hybrid traditional/western rooms as the elderly in my family find it difficult to sit or kneel on the floor. The cafe and small garden at the lounge area were nice to relax at as well.

I don't have much complaint only I wish the dinner had a bit more pieces of beef, but it was still yummy.

Came here to relax after visiting family in the area. The greetings on arrival set the positive tone to our stay. The onsen facilities are excellent. Having a 24 hour onsen with a panoramic view was a great feature. The breakfast was very nice - having both western and Japanese options. We did not reserve dinner with our booking, as we saw it as an opportunity to explore the town, but I do wonder what we missed. The room was very spacious for the 4 of us. The fish in the koi pond were very impressive! I ran into two unexpected situations while there, and Suimeikan responded in an impressive way. One in our party from outside Japan ran into an issue with our room. We tried one night in the room, but after she still had difficulty after that one night, we asked if we could switch rooms for our next and last night. They put us into another room right away that fixed the issue. And then I left a shirt inadvertently there which they shipped to me in Tokyo (I paid for the shipping on arrival). For both those reasons, I would rate the service and hospitality here as superb.

It's a huge complex so might be a bit difficult for those with poor way-finding skills, but it is also huge because it has many excellent services and options for the guests, so a bit of a trade-off. Parts of the facility might feel a bit dated, but given that it has a long well-established history and reputation, that is probably to be expected as well.

Superb service by hotel staff! They are very professional and friendly. Besides English, some can even speak very good Mandarin. 3 onsens to choose and the location is very near to Gero station station. The hotel also kindly provided Shuttle services for arrival at Gero train station and those who are leaving before train departure timing. Do check out the timing at the hotel entrance. The breakfast buffet I spread is great especially for Japanese dishes ! The hotel has a long history so dun expect it to be pristine new(obviously right? ) but it is very clean and well maintained with a vintage charm. I would love to visit Gero and stay in the same hotel again.

I tried all the onsen and they were all spacious and relaxing. Breakfast had lots of choices and they were all great, I just hope I could have sampled more, but I was already full. Room was clean and big enough for 1. Many of the staff can speak English and were very patient explaining the facilities. I also had lots of help when I thought my things were missing while I was in the onsen, they all helped looking for it, turns out one of the bathers placed her things inside my basket, while all my things were all underneath hers. My favorite was the massage chairs near the onsen on the ground floor. Although the Gero station was right next to the hotel, a shuttle bus was still available.

Dinner in our room was fantastic. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff assigned to our room was gracious, knowledgeable and very attentive.

I did not, in anyway expect the room to be spotless and free of minor damages. However, for the relatively high amount we paid for a one night stay, the cleanliness and lack of basic maintenance of our room, left me and my family questioning the pricing of a single night stay. It was unfortunate that our room did not match the high quality of the food and service. To no fault of housekeeping, it’s that deep down dirt and staining that should be addressed.

The room was fantastic, very large with a great view, The side room and patio are a real bonus and the washroom and separate bathroom and toilet make the set-up very nice. The location is perfect. Super easy access to the train station (without hearing the trains!), centrally located to the town and the trails along the river. The yukata!

Breakfast: there is a nice variety of food, but it was not exceptional compared to similar ryokan style hotels I have stayed at in Japan. Onsen: the outdoor onsen is really nice and my favorite onsen was the third floor onsen with several pools. But the amenities at the sinks are not as good as similar onsen we visited in the Gifu region. Staffing: the staff are very pleasant and make you feel welcome. But the staffing level at the front desk could be better. In particular, the staff at the front desk do not have the time to be helpful with questions from guests about visiting Gero, and Gero is a little tricky to visit following Golden Week with almost all the restaurants shut down.

This is the only property where we were super impressed with level of service. There are many staff waiting at the door at the door waiting to greet you and after check in one will walk you to your room (the hotel has 2 buildings and we stayed in the not main one). We decided to add the kaiseki dinner, which was excellent. You can wear yukata robe anywhere in property (other places limit which floors you can wear it on. There are three onsens on site and we only had time to visit one of them but it was lovely. Would have loved to wander through all of them. Parking was free and easy (train line also very close to hotel if needed).

The property was a little dated but still clean. Room was a little bit of a walk since we weren’t in the main building.

beautiful setting with 4 onsen, close to the train station and they have a shuttle service waiting for you. The staff were gracious and helpful. An English speaking staff member accompanied us to our room explaining the amenities and recording our preferences for meal times and setting up and taking down our bedding. sweet and savory snacks awaited us each afternoon. The staff helped us select a local restaurant and called ahead to make sure they could take us. Each of us got a massage and my cousin and her husband booked a private onsen experience. The breakfast was amazing with many delicious choices

it was perfect

Many types of onsen available. Some rooms have en-suite private onsen. Breakfast selection is sufficient (western and japanese). Very near train station. Only 1-2 mins by hotel shuttle bus to station. Rooms are spacious. They provide delicious welcome snack (A5 Wagyu Senbei). A solid choice. Will only come here next time.

Would be good if they provide laundry freshener in the room.
