Facililities were well maintained. Very good location and walking distance from markets but away from the crowds. Parking was aplenty. The staff tried thier best to help. True deluxe hotel. Best service Ive experienced in a Japanese Hotel.

The only negative point there was the receptionist in their Shirakawago restaurant. He was rude and unaccomodating if you are not Japanese. Very unfortunate for a hotel with good standards to have that kind of staff.

Location is 10-15 minute walk from the Takayama station, which is convenient when you are doing day trips to the nearby attractions. I stayed with my 74 and 78 year old parents, and the walk was doable. The hotel has a free shuttle from the station which we used when we arrived and when we left due to the bags, other than that, we walked to the station. The city center however, is a bit of a walk (25-30 mins) which was not doable with my parents, so we had to pay for taxis, which are expensive in Takayama, so just keep that in mind. If i had been there with other ppl my age, i would have not mind the walk.. Food: Their restaurants were closed by 8:30, and so do most restaurants in Takayama, so make sure you (1) reserve wherever you want to go because most rests go off of reservations and (2) eat before 8pm or you will go to bed with an empty stomach. Breakast was pricy but if you are looking for something more than bread and coffee at the bus station before your tours, wake up early and might be worth the price. Facilities: Very well maintained, very clean, staff was very helpful. Onsen was AWSOME, super clean, multiple "jacuzzies", 2 indoor, 2 outdoors, SUPER relaxing. They are free of use between 3pm and 10pm and have everything you need such as hair treatments, hair dryers, etc. They have a sauna, multiple showers, and overall, it felt luxurious and comfortable. We had a massage which I believe was relatively cheap ($30 USD) for one hour and it was a very therapeutic one, although it is not on a closed room spa, which was okay for the price. Rooms: They are spacious, futon beds are comfortable, they are warm so you don't have to worry about heating it up when you return from your day trips. The staff will set up your futon bets at 7pm, unless you ask them to be earlier.

We liked everything honestly. Maybe the restaurant or food options, when I could not get any food from any of the restaurants in the hotel, i was hoping they had room service, but they didn't. Since all restaurants in Takayama close by 8:30, it was hard to find food around.

Onsen hotel outside of town. We paid extra for a room in the new tower which was great. Onsen was a nice experience. If you don’t mind a walk to town then this hotel is ok.

We had breakfast included and they allocate restaurants. On the first day they sent us to a run down function room in the old hotel. It wasn’t to a high standard. On the second day we were sent to the nice buffet with omlette chef in the new hotel we booked. When we asked after check in if there was a difference we were assured there wasn’t. This was not the truth. If you pay extra for breakfast and the nicer room you shouldn’t be eating in the old function centre.

The Hida Takayama Green Hotel is very nice, especially the Orinkaku wing. Beds were comfortable, room was clean, view was very nice, cleaning staff were kind and helpful.

Meal service in the hotel was disappointing. The night we arrived there was no availability in the Japanese restaurant or the Green restaurant. When I inquired about seating for 4 in the Japanese venue, the woman at the desk shoved a pre-fixed menu at me with the price and wrote 20:00 (for next availability) on a piece of paper. No greeting, no eye-contact, no words spoken. Very rude attitude. The Green restaurant has what seems like a very complicated system for seating people. Everyone has to check-in and then sit and wait for a table. When you walk into the restaurant, there are lots of spaces?? Strange. The third restaurant was very nice, the staff were helpful, but we had to wait an hour to get a table.

The hotel staff was very helpful and even bow when you walk past the staffs. There was 2 microbus per hour from the Takayama station to hotel. (5 minutes). The room (Japanese style room with tatami) was big enough for 2 people stay and very quiet. There was 2 onsens. A big one on the 1st floor and a smaller one in the basement. The breakfast had plenty of food, buffet style and you can choose to have western/Japanese meals.

The only minus was about 10-15 min walk to the station(no microbus from hotel to station at lunch time) but 20-30 min walk to the Old town (main sights). Also there was a unit bath in the room but very small. Most people would use the onsen (hot springs) facility within the hotel, but for foreigners who are not familiar with onsen may want to use the bath in the room.

Both onsens with outdoor pools were fabulous. Staff were very helpful and their English skills were generally better than in many hotels in Japan. Housekeeping was prompt and diligent. The various restaurants serve up good quality food at reasonable prices.

Not so much as a criticism but a suggestion. The frequency of the shuttle bus service (including the Old Town) should be more frequent particularly when guests are arriving with luggage in tow at Takayama Station. Assistance with luggage would be great too.

You can get the experience of staying in a very nice japanese style accomodation but with a "western touch" that made us very confortable. Having a great and beautiful onsen at the hotel was definitively the best part. Very relaxing athmosphere with plenty of services (restaurant, stores...) all at the hotel, so you can catch a very nice break if doing an intense trip around Japan. Everything was very clean and the staff were very nice.

Sleeping on fouton on tatami was a bit unconfortable, but that is not a problem of the hotel but just that we are not used to it. The room was a bit too warm as we had a hot tub in the terrace (super cool but we were not sure how to best manage ventilation)

Paid for the new and expensive orinkaku room, space was excellent. Buffet breakfast was good. With good spaciuos table spread out to avoid infectious diseases. The basement onsen area was new and clean, However it is located beneath the reception waiting area, so sounds can be echoed into the onsen. Rather noisy, should have some piped in soothing music.

Room has alot of blind corners with raised platform, so can be dangerous as we tripped over it a few times if u are not looking downwards walking on the floor in the bedroom. Can be tricky if one is not aware of the raised platform used for futon bed. And dressing bench under washing area was also a bit tricky as we ended up tripping over it whilst using the basin. So be careful of the hidden layout, especially for the elderlies. Otherwise, amenities was fantastic. Liked the big spaciuos feel if u are willing to pay the price for it.

The room was excellent - it was very big and comfortable, the futons were great to sleep in. Staff service was excellent as well — welcoming and friendly, we were able to check in early and leave our luggages at the front desk (both at check in and check out), so that we could enjoy the town without lugging our items around. The room was automatically turned over during our dinner, so that we could rest upon returning to the room. We had a great traditional Japanese dinner experience and breakfast buffet the next morning. The view from the room was great as well. We enjoyed our stay very much and would book this place again should we return to the area.

We were unable to enjoy the hot spring, so it was unfortunate that we had to pay a tax anyway. The hot spring also requires a separate payment in order to be accessible.

The hotel is huge, and it offers a lot of amenities, which is comfortable. There are two public Onsen- one in the old part, which is large, romantic outside and a bit dated, the other is very small and modern. We are a family of four and slept comfortably in a spacious Japanese-style room on futon beds. The breakfast was the best we had during a two week stay in Japan.

The location is a bit remote, it is a 10 walk from the station but away from the old town. However, it is closer to the museum village, we could walk up there in 20-25 minutes. They rent out bicycles for a small amount of money, wich we used to cycle to the morning markets. Using the bikes, we reached the marked effortless in 6-7 minutes.
