Very nice and friendly host/owner John. He's always willing to help and have nice conversations. The guest house location is very convenient to the airport and the city center. The room was quite warm during the freezing cold winter days

The bathroom water tapes were 2 different mixers. One for cold water and another separate one for hot water. It'd be way better to replace them with just one modern mixer to adjust the water temperature adequately.

We enjoyed our stay at the Richmond Guest House and its location was the key factor as we had come done for the cricket test against Australia and it was only a short walk to the Basin Reserve cricket ground. The Guest House was also conveniently located to Courtenay Place where there were plenty of restaurants although with the sold out cricket test all restaurants were pretty full and the place was alive. The test finished a day early so it meant we had one fullday to ourselves on a cold and wet Wellington day to explore. Shuttle to the guest house from Wellington airport was only $24 for the two of us. As far as the guest house facilities were concerned we had a large double room which was spacious with Sky TV and tea and coffee making facilities and our bed was very comfortable. Only one complaint was the room was very dusty with the walls and bedhead being very dusty and a sweep across these areas would be helpful to people who suffer from asthma and chest complaints. John the proprietor was welcoming and very helpful when we had problems before we arrived with spam hitting the Booking.Com website and us receiving emails that our card was not valid and requesting us to provide details or our accommodation would be void if we did not pay. We immediately phoned John who said that he had had many similar experiences from other customers and told us not to pay until we arrived. John could be quite abrupt in his manner towards people but nowhere near as bad as some of the reviewers have said as we found him very chatty and likeable. Very enjoyable stay.

Room needs a through dusting and vacuum as there was a coating of dust on the walls and behind and on the bedhead. Otherwise perfect for a short stay

Room bed bath was excellent. The owner was strange. Does not seem to like people.

Good location, an easy 15 minute walk down to the waterfront, Te Papa Museum etc. We arrived very late due to delayed ferry but the owner arranged that we could let ourselves in and tiptoe to our room. He also gave us a parking permit so that we could park on the road outside, which was great. Unlike most bland, corporate-looking accommodations, the GH is full of nice furniture and interesting antiques, very colourful. Very comfortable bed and our bathroom looked very new, with an excellent shower. Lots of places to eat nearby and a fantastic old cinema (The Embassy). Good value for money

Loved the classic guesthouse vibe. John is an excellent host with a ton of stories. Breakfast was great. Our room was towards the back which made it very quiet - I felt at home immediately. It was also spotlessly clean and very spacious. We were able to park our motorcycles off the street in a small fenced area, but don’t count on this if you’re riding a big cruiser or dresser - it will be difficult to wriggle it and the corner in the small gap.

This is a very dense area so it can be difficult to park nearby if you are driving a car. However, due to the central location it’s a good place to base yourself if you are travelling on foot.

We stayed 2nd, 3rd, 13th and 14th of May. The guest house is old worldly, with some eclectic furnishings but with modern renovated bathrooms. The breakfast was very good with a large selection of cereals, toast, juice and tea and coffee. The location is fairly close to the CBD, harbour, public transport and the car/passenger ferry terminals. Mostly a flat walk into the CBD with some streets a little steep. It's close to Mt Victoria lookout, well worth visiting at night or during the day.

Little not to enjoy your stay.

Great location, close to downtown and a short drive from the attractions I had planned to visit. Very comfortable bed - I had struggled to get a good night's sleep on my trip prior to my stay at Richmond Guest House, however, I slept like a baby both night's that I stayed there. Bathroom was quite large, and shower was better than any other hotel that I had stayed at during my trip.

Parking on the street out the front of the guest house was a bit frustrating. We were able to get guest's cars to "fit" on both nights, however, I did feel stuck for the rest of the night.

I had a perfect stay. The Richmond guest house has a very good energy and a lovely feel. It gives a home feeling, a bit like staying in a New Zealand home. The room was spacious, clean and cozy. Good hot shower too. Very comfortable and good bed with lovely quilts on top. Please never change this quilts, there are so lovely. John is a wonderful host with gentleness and kindness. I’ll be back for shure, a good place to be , coming to Wellington. Close to everything and free parking is a plus.

Nothing

We had an excellent stay here. The room was clean and cosy, the bed was comfortable. The breakfast room is large and sunny, very homely, with a beautifully restored 1930s radio and historic Wellington photographs on the wall. The guesthouse is located just up on the hill from the city, but it's in a lovely quiet street and only a short walk to the many cafes and restaurants downtown. As we weren't leaving Wellington until the early evening the owner very kindly allowed us to store our luggage in his office so that we didn't have to drag it around all day.

No complaints at all.

Richmond House has become my regular place to stay. I have stayed 3 times now and each visit has been great. As well as being great value for money the rooms are exceptionally clean, well appointed and quiet. The location is walking distance to the central city and there is free parking. Breakfast is a basic continental with the largest selection of cereal I have ever seen. John the host loves to have a chat and has a wonderful dry sense of humour.
